Not unlike some marches in the north of our country

"Thousands of flag-waving Israelis have marched through Muslim areas of East Jerusalem's Old City in an event seen as highly provocative by Palestinians.

The Palestinian presidency said Israel was "playing with fire". It comes at a time of particularly high tensions following months of deadly incidents.

The march celebrates Israel's capture of East Jerusalem in the 1967 war.

Israel regards the whole of Jerusalem as its capital, something rejected by most countries and the Palestinians."

I was talking to an Israeli citizen the other night on a mutual discord server we share and he told me that he hates the current situation and does not support what is going on which was very refreshing to hear. I know this fella is just a few years younger than me (Computer science undergrad) but we had a good discussion on the issue and it was nice to hear about it from his perspective. Hopefully the up and coming generation which seem to be much more liberal and progressive will actually come to the negotiation table and get something done I can definitely see their being peace in my lifetime.

The ugly face of the "settler" movement

"Chaos ensued during an Israeli settler rally in East Jerusalem on Sunday, with Palestinian civilians - including elders and children - brutally attacked. Racist chants of "Shireen is a whore", referring to the murdered Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, "May your village burn", "Mohammed is dead" and "Death to Arabs" were reported.

Thousands of far-right Israelis stormed Damascus Gate in occupied East Jerusalem to mark the so-called 'flag march' in the old city. The march in Palestine is held to mark what Israeli settlers call the day of unifying Jerusalem, in reference to Israel’s occupation of the city in 1967 and subsequent annexation which is not internationally recognised."

    Settler movement?

Phrases like that tell you - almost instantly - that what you're dealing with is anti-Semitism; a hatred of Jews and the Jewish State.

It's not what Israel does, here and there or day to day, that matters. That's just an excuse to rake up the hatred, albeit in mild form. What opponents of Israel want isn't some sort of equality between Jews and Arabs, but for the elimination of the Jewish State itself.

Most daren't admit it. Some do, of course.

In fact, I've often been in fake conversations with so-called reasonable opponents of Israel. I pretended to be anti-Israel to the point where I faked that I wanted the elimination of the Jewish State. Clearly, that's the exact opposite of what I actually believe, but I nonetheless flew this fake persona to see what others would say. You'd be amazed what people will reveal when you put on a fake persona.

Not to my surprise, they agreed to the same thing, and saw this as the perfect license to come out with their actual hatred of Jews and Israel itself; spewing out all the tropes of anti-Semitic bile you see strewn through social media and beyond.

What presents itself as "reasonable" opposition of Israel is often a cloak or excuse for an anti-Semitic hatred of the existence of the country itself, or the people who live in that country.

    Another anti Israel thread

Any threads on the war in Yemen?

What about forced transgender operations on gay Iranian men.

    Pure anti semitism

Nonsense. The default cry of those lacking a fact based constructive critiscism is "anti semitism"

As I said, the standard response, the stock response, is to sound reasonable, like you are doing now.

But once you pretend to be anti-Semitic, as I did, with those "reasonable people", only then do they unearth and expose the anti-Semitism they hold so concrete.

They'll never admit it otherwise. Why would they? But when an opportunity presents itself, they will. After all, there then becomes no risk. I don't blame them really. If I were in their shoes, I would probably do the same thing.

It's really not about being reasonable though, is it? That's a cover for what they really want. Ultimately, they don't want the Jewish State, in any form, to exist. And if that means the death of Jewish people, so be it. Excuses can always be conjured to explain away that kind of thing.

A hateful attitude, of course; one shown to be ineradicable in societies past. And as we see with societies present, there is no reason to assume that this odious, perennial hatred will be eradicated anytime soon.

And more the shame because of it.

all of this has already been destroyed and debunked as it is factually wrong.

    whataboutery and deflection.

you tell us where the threads on these issues are, why haven't you started them?

Go start them yourself maybe? Are you telling us what we should be interested in?

For me its that Israel sells itself as a first world democracy. This charade was revived when they murdered that al Jazeera journalist a few weeks back.

    You see, language matters.

When George Floyd was murdered by a nut-job police officer in the US, you didn't come on here and say "the US murdered...".

Clearly it wasn't "the US murdering" George Floyd.

But in the case of Israel, everything - and I mean everything - gets interpreted to an entirely different level.

In this case, "they (Israel) murdered an Al Jazeera journalist"; implying the country / the State as being involved in the murder itself, without a shred of evidence.

    See the difference?

    Russia would be proud.

Except Derek Chauvin wasn't part of an occupying military force that oppresses an entire nation and he was also investigated and convicted for his crime.

Once again, you utter an ill-thought out attempt at a post which only serves to expose your amazing inability to make a coherent comparison. It might not be quite at the level of your attempt to compare Marcus Rashford to Jimmy Saville, but it's still incredibly poor.

    "Language matters" indeed.

I’m sure Israel will have a complete and transparent enquiry into this and let the world know the outcome. Oh wait, they’ve already said no to that.

The first thing I thought of when I saw those videos was the Orange marches in the North.

People often ask why the Irish have an affinity with the Palestinians, and that Israeli march suddenly made so much sense. Settlers who have displaced and oppressed native populations going out of their way to march through the streets of the people they've displaced, in a celebration of the displacement, rubbing their noses in it, and claiming cultural right to do so.

    It's nearly like a mirror.

To black Americans and the deprived in many parts of the world the police are de facto an occupying force

Here is what should happen in the middle East.

Israel should leave all settlements. Leave the west Bank.

    Remove all blockades in Gaza.

In return for a total acceptance by all Arab nations of its right to exist and a promise for massive aid to establish a viable state in the two territories.

The Palestinian state must after the departure of Israeli setters commit to a democratic system. Total.

indeed, language does matter, hence why crimes ultimately sanctioned directly or indirectly by a state are quite rightly, classed as being on behalf of that state.

so, the murdering of george floyd was not sanctioned by the state or federal government, by a military or police force, but was carried out by an individual officer.

whereas the killing of this journalist in palestine will have been sanctioned or ordered by the israely government or the IDF and was ultimately carried out by the IDF.

the israely government have form for ordering/sanctioning/condoning the murdering of journalists and palestinian civilians, therefore it will be beyond reasonable doubt that they were involved in the murdering of this journalist, because their military did it and it will have been on the orders of the government going on past murders of journalists.

obviously, most of us know that there are plenty in israel who are not represented by the far right extremism that has mostly ruled israel with a couple of exceptions since the foundation of the state, whereas you and those who support israel no matter what, generally because they aren't a muslim state, believe that all jews are represented by everything israel does, which is just not true.

That's not evidence in support of your claim at all.

In 2017, Hamas produced a new policy document that formally accepted the creation of an interim Palestinian state in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem - what are known as pre-1967 lines. This is consistent with international laws.

The document also stresses that Hamas's struggle is not with Jews but with "occupying Zionist aggressors".

Imagine the world wakes up today, justifies Russian aggression as self defense. Condemns the Ukrainians. Deligitimizes sanctions & divestment against Russia. Labels Ukranian resistance as terrorist.

Its not official US policy to treat black people like second class citizens. Its not the US government officially covering up and making excuses for murder.

I am accusing them of covering up for the soldiers who killed the journalist. There first move was to deny it, then they lied about it. That makes the state complicit in the least after the fact.

When an armed force kills and are supported by their state, that's a 'them' scenario.

I don't see why you want or need to deflect to the US. There was a George floyd thread already.

What happens is that socialist-anarchist Chomsky churns out all the same quotes about how evil Israel is. These quotes get absorbed into the bloodstream and vocal cords of his enormous following. They lap all that stuff up without an ounce of questioning, only servile unthinking prostration. Repeating the same quotes and phrases like automatons, or like dogs performing the only trick it knows. I bet they watch videos of Chomsky et al almost on loop. They think they sound great, even original. Funny stuff, really.

Then multi-millionaire Chomsky - sorry, socialist-anarchist (easy to get those two mixed up sometimes) can exist very comfortably and live the life of the ordinary working man. Imagine that.

But there must be some exceptions. I know, I'll find them. Hmm...George Galloway, Owen Jones, AOC? What about Bernie Sanders? Let's just throw in the leaders of the BLM, too.

All these committed socialists are great at making speeches that laud the modest values of socialism. They talk incessantly about the inequitable system of capitalism, about evil Israel - and yet, off the back of that, they seem interested only in lining their own pockets. Even Owen Jones has set up a Patreon to "take on the Establishment". Where have I heard that before? They're all laughing at you.

Once you begin to follow the money, you begin to start questioning how much they really believe what they're saying re: evil Israel and evil Capitalism, and how much is about speaking to their deluded followings to rake in the cash. After all, no matter what they say, those unthinking automatons will assuredly imbibe it.

it overwhelmingly proves the IDF murdered the journalist for being a journalist.

and given israel has form for deliberately targeting and murdering journalists who expose it's war crimes and human rights abuses, it's clear that the israely government ordered for her to be murdered.
