I thought Brooke vocally was very good. Many of the singers tonight were out of key, including Sweden where I find it infuriating that she’s singing a song in which she struggles to hit the notes properly in the chorus and husks her voice to cover this. I like the Swedish song but the vocal delivery isn’t that strong tbh.

edit: I might just repeat that I’m also not a fan of Brooke’s song but it’s better than some than qualified. Thought tonight’s semi final was piss poor overall with many big hitters of late like Azerbaijan sending rubbish and still qualifying.

Jedward (generally speaking not a fan btw) were 7th first time out weren't they? Imagine that now.

Europeans view Ireland like everyone views the brits....we are not liked anymore....

We used to be a novelty, an interesting curiosity....now we are up our own holes and they know it!

We need Russia to invade us if we are ever to have a hope of winning again.

You didn't listen to any of the actual lyrics of the songs that qualified did you....

What do you think the Sweden song for example (second favourite and sailed through) is about?

"Well, maybe you're right, I'll find someone else

You say it isn't me, but when did that ever help?"

Ireland will never do well until we have the balls to put forward a song that isn’t a desperate attempt to be “eurovisiony”. Just a normal song, or alternate one, or even an Irish ballad or something. I promise you something less try hardy would do better.

The Brits who are 5th in the betting?

We will do well again when we send something genuinely interesting.

Pi$$ing off half of the potential voters. Alienating potential voters is never a good thing. But it was never that.

Continental countries always get huge ethnic votes from neighbours. The voting system is disadvantageous to Ireland.

Ill be honest...i have no idea about their song....but going on previous showings....im sure it will null point territory again for them

very disappointed we didn’t get through , if you look at the majority of the songs , we are back to power ballads again

Eurovision changes every few years the style of music and Ireland seem to be just behind the curve every time, I don’t blame Brooke in the slightest , she gave it her all and should be proud of her achievements , I have no doubt a couple of years ago she would have been in the final

Lol it’s just a ‘song’ contest. So we didn’t qualify neither did 14 other countries. Life moves on. I am looking forward to Saturday’s final.

There's no conspiracy, our song was grand but it was more like the Eurovision 10 years ago. When we were sending a Turkey.

The Europeans take it seriously, they enter modern songs with aspiring or established artists.

We don't value the Eurovision. Hozier wouldn't have been thinking the Eurovision could be his big break back in the day but Europeans do view it like that and that's the type of talent they enter.

Ya but not so much better that those 5 would not be sitting at home saying "we were better than Ireland" if we went through. It was tight mediocre margins really.

You clearly don't and it wont. Other countries have gone from regularly doing poorly to winning...like the Netherlands...I don't think they made a final 8 years in a row.

I also think people can tell the difference between Ireland and the UK, that ain't the issue. Send a better song and act and we will do better.

Ireland needs Phil Coulter to dig us out of the hole we're in.

Don't underestimate Jedward lads. At the time they were professional performers with a track record. They might have been annoying as hell but they knew exactly what they were at and how to win over fans. Ever since we have sent a parade of clueless amateurs who no one ever heard of before or since. This year is no difference. We need to stop sending acts who are the answer to a tough table quiz question. "Who was this year's entry in Eurovision?" Most of the country couldn't answer it if they were in a quiz this Saturday night. In three months she'll be serving the drinks behind the bar at a quiz where she is the answer and she'll be the only one there who knows the answer. It costs hundreds of thousands of euro to send the Irish delegation on the piss for a week to the Eurovision and we seem to be committed to having to send them on their junket so we might as well send professionals.

we dont value the Eurovision, because the irish dont understand the eurovision, they look down their noses at it. we think its a circus. As a country,as a culture we dont understand what eurovsion is,we try to copy it, we try to emulate trends, we lack that european essence, being a miserable shower of stuck up arses on a damp rock more interested in muck from america.

The only thing irish people are interested in is being victims, blaming Britain, property, the GAA and getting blotted in some scummy pubs at the weekend.

Phil Coulter needs a dig in the hole more like

You're kind of all over the place in this thread... for the most part I agree with this post. If we as a country held it in higher regard we'd have proper talent to enter.

But we don't and so we don't. No conspiracy, we get the result we deserve every year.

Yeah RTÉ are not actually listening to what is being put forward by other countries.

IMO Good songs will rise to the top in Eurovision, Mediocre songs get block voting, so if you get a mediocre year your get a block winner, and in fairness that hasn't happened in a while and IMO it has little to do with the re-introduction of the jury vote and more to do with how other countries are treating the competition.

Ireland's entry was mediocre at best this year, so its not going enter the final.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

One of the worst Eurovisions in a long time. No song is particularly good this year. Really disappointing.

Those results were nonsense of the highest order.

Malta was brilliant and that didn't get through. I wasn't a fan of the Irish entry at the start but it grew on me. Brooke was definitely Eurovision material. She's cute.

    Those results were bullsh!t.

Don't bother applying to failte Ireland for any positions, thanks for painting every citizen of our nation with your bitter brush.....but the airports ARE all open & selling one way flights.....I'll gladly give you a lift to airport

Ya, I forgot about that. I wouldn't mind a commentary but just not him.

He's like the old fella in the officee who thinks he's loads of experience and wisdom and simply won't retire.

However they'd probably replace him with Nicky Byren.
