Has Dublin been completely over run with on street brothels?

First you say whataboutery, and then only select seagulls from my list. However, go to a clean city on the coast and the seagull population drops dramatically.

You have not seen them because the places the OP is talking about are subdued and discreet places. I've seen them, I know the places he is talking about, but to be honest, you will get them in most capital cities. Some are ran by the mob, some are independent. As I said earlier, of all the problems Dublin has, this should be far down the list.

I worked all over Dublin since 1979, and I can tell ye that there were basements, parlours, brothels, “massage” parlours all over the small streets and sone of the tacky ends of the big streets , with notices in upstairs windows. Example being Pearse St, where I passed such a place every day walking to work. Gardiner St, Mountjoy Square, all sorts of places, from the 1980s onwards.

However my first introduction to displays of colourful dildos in shop windows was in likes of Copenhagen, Cologne etc in early 1980s, and these were not quite the back streets. Contraception wasn’t even legal in Ireland back in my young days.

Forever as I’ve known it since my working life, O’Connell St has been the tackiest Main Street of any city I have visited, apart from Younge Street in Toronto, which, in my memory, has something of the same vibe and is close to where “business” was done.

It can’t be denied though that our Main Street is distinctly tacky and downbeat, but has been for many decades, all my adult life. It was brought even more into focus after a trip to a European capital last week where I did not see even one piece of litter in the street. Not one. People don’t throw much in the first place, and there are teams of busy council workers set to task that any stray pieces of paper, bags etc are removed.

Take a little wander on Streetview . Actually I must do that now. Haven’t been near Dublin City centre in a year apart from driving through it and then I’m focussing on the people crossing all the time in front of me, not on the parlours. 😂

One thing a lot of guys (mostly guys, not girls) don’t take heed of is that a lot of sex workers have emerged in an environment of sexual abuse.

What woman would actually choose a career above any other of massaging the erotic zones of none-too-attractive men (overweight, personality deficit etc) who find they must pay to get their pleasures.

A girl who was in my class at (private secondary) school became a sex worker. She had suffered appalling repeated rape by her father, and as is the phenomenon of Stockholm Syndrome, came to normalise the provision of sexual services, that being what she was most used to from a very early age.
