Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi all, I also placed on this panel, though I don't expect to hear anything soon. Does anyone know if people have been called yet?

Has anyone started in DFA from this competition yet?

Would love to hear any updates on this competition. I think the panel expires in November 2023. Perhaps they might announce a new competition by the end of the year. Anyone who how many they hired, how far down the OOM it went?

Has anyone else heard about the upcoming open competition for the first secretary position in May? Apparently, they're planning to use the Capability Framework.

The last open/interdepartmental First Secretary competition was in 2021, while there was an internal competition last year. I wasn't expecting one so soon again. Better get practising the online tests.

Just curious as I've applied myself,

(and having a bit a shot in the dark as I'm currently an EO, so it's probably very unlikely!)

but what tests have you done/would you recommend?

Hi everyone. I threw my hat in the ring for the new 1st sec comp. I'm an existing civil servant but in a different department. I think that makes me eligible for both inter-departmental and open (but not internal).

    A few questions:

    1. Is there an internal comp happening in tandem with this one?

    2. Do many people from within the DFA apply via the external route?

    3. How many people are new entrants to the civil service at this level?

Any other info (or wild speculation) 😁

I am not 100% sure that there will be online aptitude tests, but there was for the AP 2022 competition which is the same grade so I presume there will be. I cannot remember right now, but I just found a website online that cost a small but allowed me to a lot of practice. Will have to go through emails to find out the name of it.

Me too. I don't believe there is an internal FS competition right now, there was an internal comp during 2023 so they are probably still drawing from that panel alright. RE: your other questions, I have no idea!

EDIT: RE: your second question, this PQ might help shed some light - as of 13 June 2023, 8/18 candidates that remained on the panel were from the private sector. I reckon 60-75% of entrants are existing civil servants, and the remainder from the private sector.

Thanks for finding the PQ - very interesting!

From my read of this thread, I don't think there will be any aptitude tests. More like:

Shortlisting → video interviews → final interview.

Of course, I could be very wrong.
