Not personal experience but I seen on twitter some people were getting adult renewals back as quick as 24 hours. Even on the last bank holiday weekend some were getting processed. So my advice would be to reapply online now.

Thanks i have reapplied so guess i just have to keep the fingers crossed. Don’t know if there is anything else i can do.

Think I read a few pages back that someone had a quick enough turnaround after they get their photo resubmitted. Get another photo ready now and get on to them on Tuesday morning and hopefully they can give you another option to resubmit it then.

Thanks Sibersha, I'm gonna call constantly on Tuesday.

Our daughter's FTA just went printing at 3.20pm update, so we will have the passport in time for our trip on Saturday.

Applied for two FTAs on 08/03/21, both went to 'Your Application is being processed' on 3rd of April with estimated dates of 28th April and 3rd May. Received the one due on the 28th on the 26th and should have the other one due for the 3rd on Tuesday.

Advice to anyone wanting to get in touch with passport office: Keep calling until you hear a mans voice, then you are in the queue.

They will note your travel dates, not sure what difference this makes but can't hurt. We did contact a TDs office on Friday but they told us that the passport office have suspended the TD line due to volume of requests, so not sure what to make of that.

But by all accounts it does seem to be luck of the draw at the moment, hopefully with increased staff they can start moving things along quicker for everyone.

    Homer

We were in the same spot, first time app that was submitted mid Jan, finally arrived mid march, i did post a timescale here somewhere

Pic was rejected, i received the email about 11am , took a picture of him with my phone, left a load of room all around his face, submitted it at 1pm and it was printing by 5pm

It is extremely hard to get through on the phone line . I often question how many people they have Maning thephones some days . Took out Doughers first time passport on line app 120 days in total from when I sent in the documents. The trackers is just for show it doesn't mean much till it changes to 'processing processing'.

On our due date the trackers reset back 1 week. It's a broken system TDs not much help going by most comments

Gd luck with it . It will be totally down luck sorry to say

Thanks Scudzilla. I'll have a lok at the website tomorrow and I'll just keep calling them.

Westcoast.... I got my husbands back less than 24 later hours back in November, applied the Wednesday afternoon and we recieved it the next day on Thursday , it was a basic online renewal. My friends one took 2 days last month. Fingers crossed for you!

Thats brilliant, as its printing i am presuming photo has been accepted and it just needs to issue in post once printed. Flying Friday morning so hoping i will have it wed 🤞. I cant believe i missed that it had expired

Does going to the 2nd processing application stage mean anything?

For my baby’s First time passport, it still took another 6 weeks once it said “processing”. I also think the tracker is automatic as it seems things like photos aren’t checked until nearer the delivery date

Ugh what a mess travelling next week, was hoping it meant something was happening

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 orourke84

My baby's first time application has also moved to "processing application". I assume that means they have verified the supporting documents, seeing as that stage has now passed?

I don't believe my witness has been contacted yet. Estimated due date is still 26/5/22, though I'm not expecting it until June going by the experiences of others.

You and I might think that they would verify the documents at the stage where their progress tracker says "PROCESSING APPLICATION We have received your supporting documents. We are now verifying these documents." However, others on here have moved to the next stage and been sitting at the next stage for weeks, only to be contacted as they're unhappy with one of their documents. We submitted our applications on 9th March and it went to the received and verifying your documents stage on 18th March. The progress tracker has crept relentlessly forward and it is now almost complete. It's been at the second Processing Application stage for weeks. Our estimated due date is tomorrow, 4th May, but our witness has not been contacted yet. So it will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow: will the estimated due date be put forward and the progress tracker go backward a bit?

From all I've read on here I think the progress tracker is meaningless, other than to give a record of the dates they received the application & documents. I think it is set at the start in relation to whatever the estimated due date is and it just creeps forward but doesn't seem to bear any relation to the reality of what is going on in the passport offices. We just wait and see what happens!

    Hi All,

Renewal application for my son sent in mid February. Estimated issue date was last week. As of this morning the so called tracker simply says "Application Recieved" and that the planned issue date was sometime last week. We are going on holidays in a month. Is there any chance I will get it in time or should I contact a TD now and hope he/she can sort something out for me?

p.s. This passport thread is the only place I can find any information. Thanks to all involved. The passport office won't answer the phone and their twitter feed is so useless I think it is an automated response.

Anyone have any luck with calling them? I'm just getting a busy line now, nit even an answering machine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28 Giotto3

I got through on one occasion by following the advice of someone on here, which was: dial the number and if you hear a woman's voice answering (it'll be one of those recorded messages) hang up immediately and redial at once. Keep doing this until such time as a man's voice answers. Once you get a man's voice answering that's you in the queue to speak to a real person. Ringing from the north it cost me 16p for every 1 second call but after maybe 20 or 25 of those calls, getting the woman's voice and ending the call to redial, I did get a man's voice answering and got to speak to someone. You could try to see if that still works.

I've been calling all morning, got the man's voice and was 35 in queue. I was waiting for 25 minutes and was number 2 in the queue and then they just hung up on me.

My sons simple online renewal sent April 11th, took 5 days for docs to be processed. Then on 28th it changed to printing and sent later that day, original estimate was May 10th so did arrive quicker than expected.

I would definitely be ringing them if was simple online renewal from Feb for your child.

I got through to the passport office after 126 calls made, being on hold 3 times for over 20 minutes each time. The guy told me he'd note my travel date and hopefully the photo checker person might take it into account when ruling on the picture. All we can do now is wait for it to go through or not.

Best of luck to everyone with their passports.

Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but has anyone got experience bringing a baby to the UK without a passport? Something's come up and we'd like to travel sooner than we'd be able to get him a passport.

I know it's not legally required for the CTA but airlines generally require ID for boarding. I found some small print on the Aer Lingus website which does say children can travel on their parent's ID so I think it's alright but there's very little info otherwise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,276 ✭✭✭TheRona

I contacted Aer Lingus when I was travelling to the UK from here earlier this year, and it didn't look like my child's passport would arrive. They told me to travel with his birth cert and I'd be fine. In the end, his passport arrived so it didn't matter. You'd need to fly with Aer Lingus, though. No chance with Ryanair.

Aw....that's so annoying. And there's nothing else you can do but try again and again. It seems to be a system under serious pressure.

As someone else has said, thanks to all those who've posted here - it's the only place I've found with good info. Unless there's a rapid speeding up, we're in trouble for our early June trip, waiting for infant FTA.

Here's my question for now - supporting docs posted last Thursday but no mention of them being received on tracker. I thought a scan of barcode to show they'd at least made it would be fairly immediate. How long does that typically take?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 Westcoast21

my passport showing as dispatched at yesterdays date but nothing coming up under the an post tracker. Do they come up on the tracker

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 244 ✭✭MissElle

Mine took 2.5 weeks before they had updated to say received - again seems to be luck of the draw as to how long that takes! Once it’s updated you should get your estimated finish date

Does anyone know if they always contact the witness? Mine hasn't been contacted yet. I applied on 8th March and tomorrow is the estimated issue date. It's still saying "Processing Application." The wee progress bar is nearly complete. I wonder what will happen to it tomorrow?
