That's the way I always read it. The leaking is illegal anyway, but if he stood to benefit at all (or anything other reasons that may prove corruption), then it is a far more serious crime, which seemed to be where they were looking.

Yes, exactly. The voters who a lot of our politicians have zero respect for. It must be great for them to know that once they are not in handcuffs, it does not matter how corrupt they are, loads of people will make up any reasoning to defend them.

Corruption goes well beyond legalities. Just because a politician is not in jail does not mean that they are not corrupt.

Wrong, if something is not deemed illegal it can still be corruption. And I don’t know where you are going with this line that if you complain about politicians you must become a politician to change things. I already have a career and I make sure every day I don’t do corrupt things at work.

Do you consider Varadkar leaking a document to his friend to be illegal? (It gets somewhat confusing trying to keep track of all these arguments on this thread.)

We already know he leaked and it was illegal. It just needs to be reviewed as to how illegal or what severity of crime was committed.

Even without the review, I'm pretty confident that something doesn't become legal because the resulting outcome seemed okay.

Can't say he would have made a great Doctor. Breach of Confidence is something that they take fairly seriously.. 😂
