You are basically saying the same as me... Security is DAA responsibility and they pass info to Airlines who pass it on... I read here the DAA were giving info but stopped when they lost control... I expect Duty Free managed by DAA... The rest just leases... Normal commercial shops....

The mrs & daughter texted me at 07.29 to say they were through T2 security in five minutes this morning

They've changed their official advice now.

Arrive no more than 2.5 hours before flights to the UK or Europe, 3.5 hours for long haul.

If your flight departs after 8.30am don't arrive before 6am.

Got back today in jig time - flight arrived 10 mins early, no delay getting to stand, no queue at all at passport control.

The only fly in the ointment was we must have parked at the absolute furthest gate available, it was a LONG walk to immigration!!

But that apart, a very pleasant experience (well, as pleasant as an airport can ever be, which is not a lot!)

Just came through T1. 15 mins from being dropped off, to sitting in the lounge.

    Nice

Just hope things don't get worse again once the busy Easter period is over

This thread is gone very quiet......

As predicted (by me anyway), they've got a handle on things.

The airport when I was in it twice over Easter was hugely busy, but I was never stuck in a non-moving queue anywhere.

The media hyped the whole thing beyond belief - yes, a few people missed flights at the beginning of the whole thing, and I'd have been absolutely furious if I was one of them - but the DAA managed the situation as best they could, while waiting for more staff to come on stream. That, and the busy Easter holidays are past now, so things would have calmed down somewhat anyhow.

The hysteria being whipped up about it all would have been funny, had it not been actually contributing to the problem.

whatever about the delays, there was an absolutley horrific smell of piss coming from the toilets in arrivals, by baggage reclaim in Terminal 1. What a welcome!

As the fellow said its sorted "handle on things" great I think after saying nothing for 2 weeks it's now 2.5hrs... Is this correct...

the only correct thing about the 2.5 hours is that that’s what Ryanair are suggesting to customers

It appears from those travelling that security clearance is talking minutes to complete

I was an arrival so can’t comment on departures until a few days time. Taxi driver seemed to think it had gotten better alright

Exactly.. they have got around sorting out the queues by ' moving the deckchairs on the Titanic'. The airport itself is a complete mess; there is a horrible smell emanating around Terminal 1 arrivals; some bins are overflowing and there is general grubbiness around the airport and why are there are so many bags belonging to passengers lying around the baggage belts ? From what I am led to believe is that many of the interested parties operating at the airport cannot get staff or retain staff hence the mayhem

Proper staff cannot be got anywhere for the terms DAA are offering... I was told a few weeks ago the DAA were asking the former staff to return which may not be correct... Hopefully they start paying proper wages... The Government (Ryan) is very quiet... Are they aware of a problem... I had assumed things sorted...

Over 4000 have applied fir jobs there. Blearily people are happy with the pay.

Have you been to the airport yet? Or are still commenting on third hand information?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,425 ✭✭✭maestroamado

You are basically saying posters here are liars... Cop-on Father...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,117 ✭✭✭✭ted1

    Well you are.

you said proper staff can’t be got for the money they are offering.

Yet they have had over 4000 applications with many going on yo the the next step.

everything wise you say it’s mostly garbage. You don’t use the airport. You can’t comment on it. As you have no experience

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,425 ✭✭✭maestroamado

Did you read the posts commented on... It seems the system not working as well as you seem to think according to others on here... You confirmed here a few weeks ago all OK and now piss and luggage problem...

Would you work shifts for €14 an hour?? It tells me all I need know about you when you think this salary acceptable Dublin in 2022...

I was talking to a lady last week on a flight, who said her daughter was paying €950 Month for attic domp in Dublin... No paying £600 in London... Do the sums... Is DAA a "thanks and God bless you company"

I'll say a prayer for you,..

PS i have a lot of experience of Dublin Airport and posted here how it was mess about 9 months ago... Obviously managed failed to notice.. .

9 months ago during a global pandemic, when staff had to social distance and many were off due to having Covid or being a close contact has no bearing on what it is like presently

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,425 ✭✭✭maestroamado

Are you now going to tell me I am lying... When DA opened and was, accepting PCR result+locator it was crazy and I was told staff on Gov payment.. We were later told permanent people were laid off... The social distance for passengers was not managed anywhere when it got busy as impossible... The staff were reasonably safe...

Flew DUB - BHX yesterday on the 06:50 Ryanair, was a long queue to get to security, then a queue at security itself. Got through in around 45/50 minutes. It was a lot of people but we were moving so it didn't feel as bad. Seemed well managed and the delays that I did see happening were mostly down to people not being able to organise themselves (getting their boarding pass up on their phone or remembering the sheet metal they mysteriously have down their trousers). Two weekends in a row passing through DUB and both times I'd say well done.

I reverted back to printing as I found it easier... Board pass/locator/digital cert...

    Thankful normal life returning..,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 6,354 ✭✭✭DoctorEdgeWild

I'm still very much a fan of the digital way, although accept the possible pitfall of a device failure. Travelling during covid gave me a great appreciation for the Ryanair App and the capacity to just add all certs into it for ease of use. Could swipe through them at the gate and it was easy. For unbreakable fail safe though, printing is still the man.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,425 ✭✭✭maestroamado

Basically because I'm a bit odd I resisted smartphone so though I am OK I be afraid a smart fcuker like you behind me... I back to digi now a board pass out and covid cert on arrive... They used to check all both ends...

It's all part of the joy of globalism I suppose. If they wanted to implant a chip in me to house all my info and allow me access, I'd gladly say yes at this stage!

20 minutes for me at T2 this morning, just before 9am.

Anyone think it odd the DAA CEO on €400k plus (used to be one of the highest paid semi state CEOs) is never bought to account for the state of terminal 1 by either the media or ministry of transport. Never saw him even at the height of the recent issues. Was also some comms pleb.

BTW Those toilets need to be moved as you arrive in the T1 baggage hall, they have always stunk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,425 ✭✭✭maestroamado

if the figures i read here are correct 28500 hours for a security staff member,,, that be about 15 years for full time 39 hr week employee...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,297 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

That was never a peak time though, after 7am it always eases off.
