Graduate Finance Jobs

Hello,

I am currently a masters student about to graduate and looking for a career in Finance.

I've applied to a number of Analyst/consulting roles in various firms across areas such as Investment/Commercial Banking, Wealth Management, Commodity firms etc. Right now I haven't had much look securing a job so far other than three interviews two of which I am still waiting for feedback.

I have applied for Jobs mostly in Dublin, London, Switzerland and Amsterdam. Just wondering if anyone knows of any current graduate programmes open to upcoming graduates in the next few months? I am sending my application to Goodbody tomorrow so lets see how that goes. I know that I should have began searching much earlier ideally last September however not much I can do about that now.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

But you should realist the financial services is not what it used to be. When I started out 30+ years ago we measured profits in percentages today we use base points. The banking industry is contracting and consolidating all over Europe, you may have noticed two banks leaving Ireland. So good luck with your career.

Many thanks for your comment. I have applied to UBP and Pictet and got rejected on both cases unfortunately. I'm not quite sure if UBS and CS have grad programmes available right now (last time I seen any roles they required fluent German) but I'll check again. I will also take a look at the other firms you have mentioned.

Yes, the Financial Services industry has certainly changed quite a bit over the past few years. It seems that most of the real opportunities are still in London with a few other smaller centers in Europe. Ireland has certainly got much smaller However, if the right opportunity comes my way I wouldn't mind beginning my career here for a few years.

From what I remember UBP had a very small program to start with, under current circumstances it might be even the smaller. I know people at Pictet, seems like a nice firm to work with, but very popular with Swiss grads so they might be swamped.

Both UBS and CS recruit German speaking graduates for the client facing home market, but for roles in AM or WM they definitely have non German speaking grads. In my time work and consulting for both of them I have met many of them.

In any case learning to speak at least one foreign language in finance gives you the edge as everyone can speak English. I was always surprised at the number of Dublin office staff that had no problem taking meetings in German or French when required.
