How often would you drive from Dublin to Skibbereen without stopping?

If you want to drive all the way without stopping, I suggest speed limit, no hammering.

If you want to break it up a bit, do Dublin -> Cork, grab a 10 min break to charge at Mahon point and grab a latte, then 1 hour ~20 to Skibbereen.

You could drive a Model 3 standard range all the way on one charge, if you did a max of 100kph

It seems like Shanghai is back in production I think I'll refuse the delivery for late June if it meant I have to wait another 2 months to get a 222 plate and not have a car that's already 6 months old when trying to sell it in the future, just because I took the delivery in June literally few days before it's 222 reg, that's so annoying in Ireland when they introduced it...am I being crazy or is that reasonable? I ordered my car in march so I don't mind waiting till August.

Don’t think I’d be able to resist getting it as soon as available, even if a 221 reg instead of 222, unless it was say a matter of just a week difference in delivery date.

Of course, if newer tech might be included in the later build/delivery, then waiting a few months might make sense, but that can be hard to predict.

If it comes in august/September then you’ll have an old car in 3 months.

The number on the plate will go old quickly.

UK are the same with their march and September plate changes.

I went for an ex demo model 3 in March, it was registered in Dec, so a 212 plate. With the second hand market the way it is and the price increases since I bought it, I would likely make a profit on it if I wanted to sell - whether its a 'six month old car' or not.

I suppose do what's right for you, but for me I wouldn't get as hung up on the arbitrary number because of the government splitting the year in two to help their pals in the motor industry.

    ^^ Yep.

You can't see the numbers on your reg plates when you're sitting behind the wheel with a big beaming smile on your face!

...am I being crazy or is that reasonable?

Yes. Ok thats a bit harsh. But the plate nonsense was designed by SIMI to create this artificial limitation in order to sell cars. Annually I get as manufacturers (other than Tesla) typically go by Model Years. This 6 month cycle is simply to enable marketing hype BS and create fear with the consumer (a great incentivisor).

I say this as some one who took delivery in Dec 2020 and I have never given it a second thought.

Added to this is the fact production of new cars globally is constrained and will be for sometime to come. If you choose to hold out it could be at your detriment.

If it were me I wouldn't wait simply based on the reg number.

Particularly for Teslas, which improve so frequently within a calendar year, if I were purchasing a second hand Tesla I wouldn't base it on the reg year as it's not a good indicator of what's in the car itself at all, so I'm not sure if worrying about the resale value is a good enough reason to reject it. Just my 2 cents.

Firstly...i did not know you could change the Icons on the homescreen so thanks......How do you add the 5th one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,530 ✭✭✭wassie

Press and hold an icon and you will have an array of choice.

If you want try and add a fifth icon follow this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9G325Mpz5c

It wont work first time but it does work. Im on iOS.

Open the control menu and there is a big button for mirror controls (Next to the Recording button). You can also manually overide a folding mirror in either direction without damaging the mechanism.

For any new SR owners that may be interested - EV Offer are now selling the AMD version of the speaker activation harness:

Seems like good value to activate an additional 4 speakers. Place my order this morning

Can you post an update when you have it installed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53 ✭✭odoliam

Wow, was interested until I saw the install video....nope and nope again 😂😂

Many will be fine with it and in general not too complex, but I'm 100% guaranteed to break something!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,850 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

And Tesla would bill you handsomely to fix it.

Will do, expecting a long wait for delivery from HK.

The lack of subwoofer and rear parcel shelf speakers will definitely makes install easier.

Don’t think 221-222 make that much difference when u want to sell it

what matters is the mileage I have driven and the condition of the car.

Anyone getting delivery from Berlin yet?

got mine in March 26 so I think it was from China or USA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,329 ✭✭✭splashthecash

Hey all, considering splashing out for one of these M3s and was wondering what is the wait like at the moment? I know that Kia EV6s and Hyundai Ioniq 5 are like hens teeth...is Tesla still delivering in a decent amount each quarter and on time?

if I was to put down a deposit now, I’d be potentially receiving in Nov - is that correct?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,850 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

Berlin are only producing LHD Model Y for the foreseeable future.

your car was built in China.

The 1st 3 digits of your VIN will tell you where your car was made; 5YJ is Fremont, LRW is Shanghai

Depending on what spec you order, you could get it a lot quicker than November.

keep checking the inventory page on their site as cars regularly show up there, and if you ordered an inventory car you could have it in a matter of days/weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 364 ✭✭Xidu

It’s LRW so Shanghai it is

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,850 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

When I collected my car, the reg plate holder said 'All Wheel Drive', and I thought nice one, I'm getting a LR....

but alas they'd just run out of the Tesla.com ones..

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 40,951 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Go into the Tesla site and it literally tells you when to expect the car based on the configuration.

There’s the chance of an earlier delivery if one with the same spec arrives that using assigned to someone.

Back from a Belfast run. Started with 70% SoC from J15 M50, and returned with 65%. Charged at SuC both ways a total of 87 kWh but the car reports 76kWh consumption with an average of 17.3 kWh/100 km, a wee bit over the whole battery. Didn't drive below the speed limit In fact I got EAP and used it as much as possible.

    image.png

The drive was done in 2 days so I have to account for one night of sentry at the hotel and 4h of work from the car on top of the driving. The SuC stops were around 30 mins each. On the return leg by the time I refreshed and got my rice the car was at 60%. SuC with the added value of preheating is such a class over any other network. By the time my family is out of the car, jackets on, door closed, the car probably got few kWh. At any other charger is "Go ahead, I'll catch you after I start the charger".

    Also climate etc

The car only reports the consumption when actually driving.
