There is no freedom of speech on privately owned forums, there is a need for discussion, posting about Ukraine being neutral or not with literally no other comments is looking for a reaction from others with absolutely nothing to discuss. It would be as relevant as me winding you up about londongrad and the tories being bosom buddies with the russians and now using Ukraine to deflect attention from their own complete and incompetent failings.

Indeed, there has been a huge change of tone in the last 24 hours. Lots of threats to the US and NATO in general and talk of full scale "war".

The interesting thing though is the Russian public know full well the regime has been lying about what happened to the Moskva. The account the Kremlin gave was so ridiculous and far fetched that that even their own people knew it was BS.

I don't disagree with you but Merkel and the German Govts of the last 25 years decided to hand over the key reins of the German economy to a dictatorship that was openly hostile to Europe, democracy and they personally did well out of it. The German economy profited off of it.

The problem is that Russia will use the leverage Mutti and co. sold them over all of Europe and against the Ukraine.

It's better to bite the bullet now, rather than have gas cut off in September.

The damage is now inevitable, excision now reduces the leverage Russia has. It affords time to adapt. The approach of Berlin is appeasement and minimizing sanction will buy peace today, dead Ukrainians aren't accountable on a ledger.

Sell your soul to the devil, expect to get burnt.

Ireland and Europe must force Germany to stop letting Putin threaten the entire economy of Western Europe.

Part of me thinks the BS isn't meant to be plausible, it is so obviously BS it is a test of loyalty to the regime. 1984 territory.

Maybe this is the special operation they are really referring to in Ukraine. The ultimate grift where they steal every penny available to their entire army. It would be fitting for a country run by crooks.

Likewise anyone is free to sit in any thread posting selective "facts" all day long, whilst acting "innocent" about having an agenda.

Today also marked the first confirmed use of a Russian strategic bomber directly over Ukraine. These are the ones who engage in "carpet bombing" style attacks like this one shown below on Mariupol.

It was reported early on that another ship was damaged as well as the Moskva. Nothing on this since?

Apart from the younger generation, I wouldnt be surprised if there is a fair degree of indifference given their govts handling of the Kursk disaster 22 years ago.

People are always wiser when they look back, Merkel was one of the few politicians Putin seemed to respect and indeed played the go between for Obama and Putin for a number of years. To this day Putin has never failed to deliver the agreed amounts of gas, keeping EU homes warm and industry running. One could also argue, the EU, Irish included didnt give two sh1tes when he was attacking Georgia or other countries which were not on their doorstep so why should the Germans bend over now? What have the Irish government or people sent that the Germans havent?

To anyone working in the gas industry, it is very clear the Germans are trying to win time to ensure the transition on the dependancy of Russian gas has as as little effect as possible on not only the German economy but also the EU economy. Exiting now would result in huge shortages in all industries, most noteibly medical, chemical and weapons. If steel is not being made in the EU where should the tanks come from? If key components are not available for medicine to be produced ... do you let EU citizens die?

Your statements prove you have little to no idea of the effects to the EU or indeed world economies if the Germans were to cut gas off tomorrow. You would I suspect also be the first person protesting if petrol was rationed because additives for its production were not coming out of Germany, your car couldnt be fixed or the spare part for the train cannot be made. Before making such statements, go away and think about what is behind them. By all means, force Germany to do whatever you feel is needed, think about the consequences, something you obviously havent.

What is? If you are referring to the SAR image, that's not fire, just the false colour palette chosen to render a non optical wavelength image.

We should defend our way of life to an extent that any attempt on it is crushed, so that any adversary will never make such an attempt in the future.

What would the Ukrainian's expectations have been I wonder when they fire the couple of Neptunes at the Moskva?

If they've never been used in combat before, then they'd be an unknown quantity. Would they have been happy with a hit and the Moskva retreating further out to sea. Or would they have expected to do enough damage to send it back to Sevastopol. It must have been a lucky hit to cause further detonations and sink it.

Again I'm surprised the Russians didn't go this route from the start. Strategic bombers in the form of a load of B52's would be one of the first plays if it were US/NATO involved.

For more weirdness, I read last night an official Turkish denial that any of their ships were involved or rescued anyone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,970 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Possibly because they wanted Ukraine as an 'intact prize'.

Yes, I read that a smaller rescue vessel also sank when it tried to come alongside the Moskva (caught up in the explosions and fire).

Just look at the test firing results, they would have been pretty confident, otherwise it wouldn't have been put in service.

Note how incredibly low it comes in at, probably causing damage that extends below the waterline - glug, glug.

Only if your hitting targets that isn't covered by air defenses ,the Americans won't fly b52s over contested airspace and live air defenses .

If the Ukrainians have s300s and or other systems flying Large bombers over cities is a bad idea ,

Chances are they took a very high altitude bomb run , but sooner or later they will get intercepted

Plus they expected the people left in Ukraine after the military build up on the borders for weeks/months would be subservient to Russia and not fight back. Any that had other views of Russia, having left west for Europe before the invasion as fearing the army. Plus again Russia is an aging demography. They needed those Ukrainian young children to be the next generation of fighters for Russia and the generation after again. There's a racist element as well and Russia value those white Ukrainians to be white Russians and probably white Siberians. Crudely breeding stock for the military.

A real indication of the amount of Combat air patrols being conducted at the moment ( tonight) is the number of KC-135's in the air. There are currently 4 air-refuelling aircraft operating (3 over Poland, 1 over Romania). That's an incredible amount of Avgas.

Kinda nutty when ya think about not Putin or the military elites, but there's a whole bureaucracy in Russia that are carrying out things we find almost unthinkable but for them it's apparently something they can set themselves up for. Deporting people to shitholes they no links to, allowing the abduction of children and then the people who sign those forms to authorise it.

Latest clip from the Russian talk shows. Interesting to watch the changing narrative - they admit the Moskva was sunk by Ukraine, but intriguingly, are starting to concede for the first time that Russia is up against it now and even that it has a big battle on its hands. This guy appears to hint the Ukrainian army are better equipped than the Russians :
