Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Was out doing some street photography last night. Some of the restaurants passed I had a lovely smell of fried garlic wafting out of then. It was a real comfort smell on a windy, cold night.

My new Yankee Candle "Christmas Cookie". It smells good enough to eat, I haven't lit it yet but it's so yum I think I better have some cookies on standby :pac:

I have this one too... it's soooo good! I love the Yankee Candle "Snow In Love"

I also use wax melts from Designer Soy Wax Melts, they smell INCREDIBLE and the company is a small Irish company so win win.

    Hyacinths... essence of sheer fragrance

I forced a trio of blue and they started to open on January 7th. our Orthodox Christmas Day. Utter deep fragrant glory.

Echoes and memories from decades ago. A perfume of every Christmas past

    Petrol.
I'd wear it as aftershave if it wasn't for the ridiculous safety issues. :pac:

On the subject of smells bringing back memories I used to go to school in Aston, Birmingham. I can still smell the HP sauce factory even today the stench kicked in from about half a mile away, add to this the smell from the Ansells brewery which was about a minutes walk from HP, the competing odours of molasses and hops would cling to your clothes and literally knock you out, it was truly intoxicating

Tinsel. Really unique smell that you don't really get anymore coz people don't really use tinsel these days, but reminds me of Christmas as a kid. The day my mum would bring the decorations out to put up, the smell was really powerful and it meant santy season was starting.

Haven't smelled it in probably 40 years, but was always very fond of the smell of the 'Flying Dragon (Horse?)' crayons Hector Grey used to sell.

The smell of a turkey cooking in the oven on Christmas is one I'll always hold dearly. The Mother always did it from Christmas Eve and I've such fond memories triggered by that.

    Petrol
    Petrichor
    Industrial plastic packaging
    Firelighters
Wild rose/Rose geranium (that Turkish Delight scent)
New babies (specifically their skin and hair)
Coty L'aimant perfume (ironically my husband absolutely adores the smell too, but had never smelled it before he met me)
Freshly-cooked steak with hot pepper sauce on it.

I wonder if there's a reason so many people are actively drawn to those chemical/petrol/flammable smells?

    Buttery toast

There's nothing like the smell of Buttery toast to make you want to have toast.

Same with fresh popcorn in the cinemas.

I used to wonder did they pump out the smell of popcorn to get people to go into the cinema, it's hard to resist!

They always make sure fresh popcorn is on the go and they do it to make you buy the popcorn. And it’s a fact. I used to work in a cinema :)

Imagine visiting your grandma. Smell of freshly cut grass in the garden. You open the door, and the wooden floor smells of old-style beeswax. You step in the kitchen and you smell freshly baked scones. You sit down by the fire and the smell of turf hits you. Here comes a fresh pot of tea. That works for me.

Walking the highways and by-ways this time of year I stop to inhale the coconut / vanilla scent of the Gorse bush. It is especially fragrant when the sun has warmed it up a little.

The other day walking through the corridor in my job there was a distinct smell..it's like a mixture of the coldness from the walls and an area not in use...that's the only way I can describe it.

Its a nuetral kind of smell but straight away it reminded me of other jobs I've worked in and a feeling of that time.

The aroma of home- made ie in the making- chicken soup simmering gently on a chill morning.... mmmmmm!

    My own farts.

Sometimes they are spicy, in a good way.

I don’t recall ever not liking the smell of one of my own farts, even the really rough ones or the ones with follow through.

Of course you can’t resist smelling them. Who here hasn’t given themselves a ‘dutch oven’ to get the full effect?
