To be fair, that’s basically what happened. Retiring 2 cars in the last 3 laps can’t really be described as anything else

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 378 ✭✭PaoloGotti

So true. I get a sense that Ferrari have been building for this season; an opportunity to differentiate themselves technically with new regs and two top class young drivers hungry to get into a dogfight. Just what we the fans need to mix things up.

What's bizarre about it? It's factually correct...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

    Implode?

They had two cars retire because (it looks like) a part They are given by the FIA failed. Hardly Imploding. Imploding would be if they ballsed up strategy after drivers endured 1 minute pit stops before they had to box again because they put the wrong tyres on or the likes.

I had completely forgot the fuel mix had changed this year. Wonder was that a part to play in it,

IF it is the FIA part , it's strange it affected the 2 Redbull cars in the same manner ,pretty much the same time and so far none of the other teams , Is it something to do with how they mounted in to their system .

I haven't mentioned the Ferrari 1-2 , it's great but it's race one :) and too soon to party .

Max was screaming at the pit wall around battery issues and they kept telling him he was grand, and then told him they didn’t know what to do and to bring the car in. It may turn out to be caused by an FIA supplied part but at the time the article was written I think it’s safe to consider the mechanics having no clue about what’s happening with the car and forcing a retirement with a few laps to go an implosion

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 487 ✭✭BikeRacer

One definition for implode is to end/fail suddenly or dramatically, which is exactly what happened. So again, it's factually correct.

**** hell, some people just look to find things to be outraged by...

This is the second busiest race thread I started with 760+ posts.

It's nowhere compared to the Abu Dhabi one I started last year. That has around 2400 posts 😲

That's the definition but in sports it's mostly applied directly to a team or an individual that panics, loses all train of thought and direction which spectacularly costs them a win that was certain.

I would be very very surprised if you genuinely didn't know that.

So it's a click bait headline that reads as though RB threw away a win due to something they did.

I think we can all agree though, the rules have certainly spiced things up a lot, and having Ferrari back at the front is great for the sport and its audience. Ferrari are THE F1 team, having them up there is great.

At this early stage it does look like an RB and Ferrari battle, Merc are into uncharted territory and as pointed out, before the SC they were a full pitstop behind. They haven't been like this since maybe 2013?

Only 1 week until the next race, which makes it even sweeter.

I wonder if fuel loads and fuel type are the issue. Maybe Yuki had a few KG more fuel which is why he was able to finish no problem.

But given teams were able to inspect the fuel pumps on Saturday abd change them if required I guess its going to be more pump related.

Either way this has now spiced up next weekend big style

    Ferrari with expectations

    Red Bull on back foot

Mercs bouncing still a big problem so a high speed street circuit not ideal

Alfa romeo, Haas and Alpine all very close

Mick Schumacher podium amid a lot of chaos please

Delighted for Ferrari, the car is beautiful and the boys have been patient! Looking forward to Sainz's first win, it's inevitable now I hope!

Hamilton obviously lucked into that podium.

    Great for Kevin.

Carlos Sainz disappointed me over the weekend. Far enough off Charles pace in qualifying to let Max slot in there for second place. He was pretty quickly left behind by Max and Charles and came under pressure from Lewis and probably would have yielded if Hamilton was in a better car. I can see why he'd be frustrated by equalling his best ever result when his teammate went one better.

    This too shall pass.

The new girl was excellent. Far more insightful with her questions compared to the others and she wasn't dragging up Abu Dhabi at every opportunity. Hopefully she is around all season long.

Was mentioned post race about Hamiltons first few laps on hard tyres. Pit lane speed given their position, plus lower rear tyre warmer temperature this year means it takes longer to get heat into them when they leave the pits. And the bouncing is also a major issue for retaining the temperatures. Wouldn't be surprised if Mercs find themselves in a midfield battle next weekend

How did you determine that the Ferrari drivers are mentally stronger than max and Lewis? They're more likeable, but no idea how you measured mental strength.

And Ferrari's engineering heritage is to cream money off the top of the prize money given to teams, ourspend the entire grid, have huge influence over the rules and even have a veto on the rules so they never end up with a rule they don't want. And they convert that advantage onto 3rd or 4th in average in the constructors champion throughout their history. Apart from a couple of periods of dominance (one of which is when they bought out the winning Alfa Romeo team and used their car), they're a team who typically finishes tiwards the back of the leading group or towards front of the midfield like last year.

They're without doubt the worst value for money team on the grid. They are totally spoiled by their unfair advantage in making the rules and their politics is like a soap opera based on Italian stereotypes

They're entering though. And the drivers are genuinely likeable.

One thing the Haas story arc has made me happy about, is that sponsors can't run the teams. The Mazepins came in, pretty much forced two good drivers out of their seats, and put a terrible one in (I was giving Nikita benefit of doubt until I saw him on DTS. Plus all the threats from Mazepin Snr - really deplorable; do other sponsors behave this way??). The team eventually forces the sponsor and driver out, brings back one of their good drivers, and gets a P5.

Hopefully this will be a lesson to some of the others on the grid (saying that I think Lance is several steps up from Nikita).

Leclerc, the cheeky git, played a prank on his engineers on the last lap. Told them there was something wrong with the engine just to put the sh1ts crossways in them.

I forgot he was on to win here before until his engine had issues and he finished 3rd that time.

We haven’t seen the Ferrari drivers mental resiliency challenged yet - they have a car that looks capable of challenging so now there will be expectations on them for the first time in years. We’ll see how they’re doing a few races in when things might not go as well for them.

I have no doubt Max and Lewis will be ready to pounce on any mistakes Ferrari make - it has the makings of a memorable season!

We could see a fight between the 2 Ferrari drivers for the title

be better if we had the three teams fighting for it....

Charles has been through the wringer at Ferrari. Went from winning races in 2019 to a bottom half of the field car in 2020 where he was making plenty errors. Last season, had some misfortune and got beat out narrowly by his teammate in Sainz’s first season with the team. New challenge this year alright but mental resilience has been challenged before.

The heart must have been racing that last lap. 😂

Can't see how Merc can mount a challenge this year. it seems like their car design is fundementally flawed, and they are way down on race pace as a result of the compromises they are making. Don't see how they rectify that quickly.

oh never right those folks off, i think they ll struggle for a while, but will eventually pull it together, they wont lie down that easy

I wouldn't be judging anyone by DTS.

I was reading something about Max not wanting be in it because of the way he might be portrayed and some DTS head guy asking him would he like to be portrayed, that they can work it out.

    Says it all really.
