I tried to set up a team but it won't let me save. I have .5 million left after making my choices; do you have to use up all the money? I can't seem to figure that out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,788 ✭✭✭eljono

No you don't have to use up all the budget, perhaps you need to assign a Turbo Driver?

F1 changing the rules about overtaking from "any" cars, to "all" cars.

What a mess Abu Dhabi was. At least it was entertaining because it was a total sporting fail and wide-open to accusations outright corruption.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

How is it open to accusations of corruption?

Would that be against Red Bull or Merc?

By Lewis own standards, Max was ahead on lap one and Lewis should have had to bail out. But he cut corner and gained a huge advantage. Then there was Toto deciding there should be no safety car?

According to your post, the rule was flexible so Masi was within his rights to make that call. And not one person from any team has countered the point about trying to finish races under green flag if any way at all possible.

Also, again, nobody mentions the impact Masi following the path advised by Toto regarding the safety car for the Giovinazzi incident had. Which was every bit as big as what happened at the end. Toto recently stated he "hasn't spoken to Masi and doesn't ever want to again" tells you everything you need to know. He had no problem speaking to him when he felt he could get his own way but as soon as something doesn't go his way he behaves like a petulant little child.

Formula one is a total mess and has been for years. The problem last year is the media focus that we get is primarily heavily biased in one drivers favour. Nobody asks the hard questions of either that driver for the total hypocrisy that comes out of his mouth or his team principal for the sheer arrogance and sense of entitlement from them.

DTS season 4 last episode was basically a pretty political broadcast on behalf of the Mercedes team

Surely that rule change confirms that Masi had the power to do what he did. Sporting organisations tighten up rules like this all the time after an unclarity in the rules is exposed.

Oh, do we have to have this chat from a Hamilton vs Verstappen perspective and get into a tedius bacj and forth about lobbying? You say toto lobbied in this instance and ignore any evidence to the contrary, and then I say "but whatabout insert X instance when Horner lobbied successfully on max behalf. BTW, am I pro Hamilton or Verstappen?

I think the decision was purely made for entertainment purposes. It was a total sporting fail because they implementing the term 'any' as 'all' in every instance up to Abu Dhabi. But the entertainment side of things demanded a brand new, unique interpretation of the term. The reaultnis thst the FIA acknowledged that all procedures weren't followed, fired the person who made the decision and changed the rule so it can't happen again. That was hardly a vote of confidence that the correct sporting decision was made, was it?

I think if all the roles we're reversed, they would have made the exact same decision for the entertainment purposes and everyone who approaches this from a pro Hamilton or pro Max perspective, would be saying the exact opposite to what they say now. If you look beyond the most basic, surface level, emotional and tribal viewpoint, its a lot more simple. It's about the show, not the actors.

One rule change was brought about because it was open to interpretation. That's not Masi's fault.

You made a claim about F1 being open to corruption based on one decision. But ignored an equally massive decision from earlier in the race which came seconds after a radio message from a team principal and was exactly what that team principal said.

For what it's worth, I don't believe Masi made decisions based on what either team had to say, nor do I believe he made a choice for entertainment purposes. I believe when Latifi crashed, Masi made every effort to finish the race under green flag conditions even if that meant being flexible.

Toto and Hamilton get a very easy ride from media that we predominantly get which is part of the problem. Hamilton can angle every situation to suit him and nobody questions the hypocrisy of it, and Toto has not been asked if his radio message to race director about the SC mid race was appropriate given it involved marshalls on track. They won't ask the hard questions because they know the two of them will stop speaking to them if they do.

At Silverstone 2021 Hamilton and Merc were hard done by was the narrative they pushed. Goes 100% against what Hamilton was saying previously though.

    *****************

Lewis Hamilton criticised the decision to give Vettel a five-second penalty for colliding with Valtteri Bottas. Vettel was still able to finish ahead of Bottas despite the penalty, Hamilton noted.“Ultimately when someone destroys your race through an error and it’s only kind-of a tap on the hand really. [He’s] just allowed to come back and still finish ahead of the person that they took out, it doesn’t weigh up.

“He shouldn’t really be able to finish ahead of him, because he took him out of the race.”

    ********************

Anyway, Sainz v Riccardo title battle in 2022 please.

I mean, I offered you a chance to avoid the whataboutery trench warfare of what about this instance and what about that one, but you don't seem to be able to see it outside that paradigm.

The race director "no longer works here" and the rule was changed because it was a sporting disaster - top entertainment though. Great entertainment and plot point, just a sporting disaster. Sport is only part of the business model though.

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,635 ✭✭✭✭El_Duderino 09

That's a relevant fact in the discussion. But you didn't mention some other relevant facts like the one where the FIA acknowledged that all procedures weren't followed correctly and the race director has been fired (diplomatically he moved position but in normal people languag, he was fired).

How do those facts align with your position?

Maybe this year we can feed it less?

Yes, this is the simple explanation but obviously some people will claim to know otherwise

Delighted for Nico H sad for Vettel.

I think Nico Hulkenbery and Vettel would have been a great pairing.

Hulk is in luck. Full race weekend at a time when everyone is new to the cars. Great opportunity for him.

All that shows is the amount of political power and influence Mercedes hold over the FIA. More telling is the fact that they chose to withdraw their appeal because they knew it didn't have a leg to stand on under legal scrutiny, far better to play their PR games in the media and to exert pressure to get even more compliant race directors put in for the future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

it could happen, but I think unless a majority of teams are struggling with it then a rule change is unlikely no matter how much scutter that twat Damon Hill talks on the sky coverage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,757 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

No better chance for a podium for Hulk. 😜

Some lads need to invoice Mercedes sharpish and at least get something for them living in their heads!

You'd have thought handing Max the title would have seen them content but no, still on about it 😜😉

Imagine what it would be like if Hamilton actually won.

I don't get it. Was it actually like that on the other car livery?

Nope, it’s a new side pod for Alpine, like a mix of Ferrari and RB.

This is good to hear and an improvement over last year - the white lines define the track limits - kerbs are considered outside the track. They better enforce it for all parts of every track.
