If people spent their time calling out Trump's lies, there'd be no time to do anything else. You could actually create full-time employment for people out of that one topic.

That statement is too broad and doesn't relate to anything I said. We are specifically discussing politics here so stay on topic. Everybody would agree there should be consequences for extreme hate speech or whatever.

The issue here is Trump faced "consequences" because left leaning big tech weren't happy with the sheer popularity of the podcast or the demographic it was reaching. So they pulled it. Thats not consequence for free speech. Thats straight up hard-line conservative censorship.

You either believe in the first amendment / free speech or you don't. Everybody has the right to say something moronic. You have a totalitarian attitude about what should happen to a person who utters something you don't approve of. Im certain you never even watched the podcast but are fine or even approve that it was deleted , am I right?

Expression of thought is so valuable because what are we are but a collection of thoughts. When we are forced to conform to a norm and become a nameless faceless sheeplike drone, its stripping us of our individuality and our humanity. Politically correct word policing is destroying the very lifeblood of who we are, and with it democracy, because it inhibits people from acting the way they would normally act, and being themselves, therefore robbing the very essence of freedom. Telling people what to think and how to act is Conservative, allowing people the freedom to make up their own minds and act and think the way they want is Liberal.

Whatever mutation has occurred among people who identify as left these days caused them to be brutally anti -free speech and thus they ceased being the good guys a long time ago.

Or, the platform has rules about disinformation, and his answers blatantly propagated those rules and the hosts never pulled him up on it.

The channel has a duty of care to the users of the platform to not willingly and knowingly spread disinformation.

They failed, by bot calling Trump out on the lies, and so the video was removed.

Nothing to do with free speech.

The video can of course be posted elsewhere, like Truth Cental or whatever his platform is.

So their free speech is perfectly maintained, just not on the private channel.

He has expressed these thoughts before, and even his own DOJ head, and many in his own party, notvto mention the states themselves and the courts, have throughly debunked them yet he continues to spread the line. So either he is lying or he can't understand.

It does seem to be a trait of those who remain loyal to trump that they won't or can't defend any of the lies but get offended by others who are doing something about the lies.

It's really pathetic and easily seen through.

(and of course the absolute sticking fingers in ears and covering of eyes of his putin support).

Complete horse radish. Politicians on both sides have and will always peddle some sort of misinformation. You act as if people have never questioned authority and called out lies , well they have , for many decades.

People are free to think for themselves. Coddling them from and controlling what they consume is the very definition of pro-censorship and and anti free speech. You are the very essence of an ultraconservative censor.

this whole post is a lie of trumpian proportions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,170 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

So you think that YouTube, a private company not owned by the state, should be forced to put anything on their platform,

In terms of political lies, yes nearly all politicians will lie. But when they are caught in that lie they either retract it or resign.

Trump is doing neither. He has been asked not to peddle these lies, even by his own party, yet continues to do so.

YT have made it very clear that they deem the pushing of these lies to be a breach of their terms of use. Trump knows it, and the podcasters know it. Yet they failed to point out the lies during the interview.

Trump always seemed very upset about the press telling lies, even calling them the enemy of the people and refusing to answer their questions or appear on their channels. Do you deem Trump and these podcasters, do be the enemy of the people then?

Strange that both he, and you, seem to suddenly have such concern for this open ended freedom of speech.

Why do you keep bringing the First Amendment into a discussion about a YT video? What part of it do you not get? You clearly don't know what you're talking about.

I feel like I’ve responded to this already.

Youtube, facebook and Twitter don’t have an ideological bias. They make money for their shareholders through advertising.

They don’t censor people, because they can’t. They ban people or remove content from their platforms entirely based on what will affect their bottom line.

On top of that, spreading lies isn’t protected by the first amendment. Libel and defamation laws still exist.

    they/them/theirs

They said Covid was a hoax.

They said Russia would never invade.

They say climate change is fake.

    They say vaccines don’t work.

They say the news is fake.

    They praise Putin.

    They attacked the Capitol.

    They ban books.

The Republican Party is on the wrong side of every issue.

So, you're o.k with teaching CRT in schools in the US? Because what more is the essence of coddling than banning books and teaching materials? And doing it by law, which makes it censorship.

As for politicians that lie, umm, this is the Trump thread. Now, he lied before he was a politician and now that he holds no elected office (you do agree he lost in 2020, right?) he's still lying. Care to take a go at this subset of the lies he told while President? https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/list/?speaker=donald-trump

That's just one of several sites. I think I recall the total number while in office closer to 30,000.

Why do so many of the people that prattle on about "Free Speech" and "The First Amendment" not understand what they actually mean?

The 1st amendment does not apply in any way shape or form to ANY decision taken by a private organisation about what rules they choose to have on the platforms they control.

They have terms and conditions that you agree to when you create an account with them , if you fail to adhere to those terms and conditions then they can decide to remove your content or suspend/cancel your account.

That's it , no more no less - No "Censorship" no "1st Amendment violations" or anything else. You failed to adhere to the private rules you agreed to when you signed up , end of story.

As others have said - It can be posted on Truth Social or Parler or Gettr or wherever they wish as long as it does not breach the rules of that platform.

Why is the concept of "following the rules you agreed to" seemingly such a complex idea for some people to grasp?

Trump continues to plumb new depths when it comes to his utter obsequiousness for Putin.

Former President Donald Trump said there is "a lot of love" behind Russian President Vladimir Putin's efforts to make "his country larger" on Sunday as Russian troops continued to invade Ukraine.

Trump discussed the conflict during an appearance on Fox News host Jeanine Pirro's radio show Sunday. He said he believes Putin's ultimate goal is to eventually rebuild the Soviet Union, and he went on to explain what he believes to be Putin's mindset.

"You say, what's the purpose of this? They had a country. You could see it was a country where there was a lot of love and we're doing it because, you know, somebody wants to make his country larger or he wants to put it back the way it was when actually it didn't work very well," Trump said.

Aside from the comment making absolutely no sense whatsoever , where exactly has Putin shown "a lot of love" for anyone or anything?

Would that be the indiscriminate bombing of civilians ,or perhaps the murdering of Opponents and Journalists was really an act of love?

I genuinely cannot even begin to fathom how that mans brain functions , it is truly disturbing to imagine that he once led the United States and that there are those that want him to do so again.

No only that but the same people admire Putin who does practice widespread censorship. Said censorship occasionally involving defenestration of those who speak out against him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,274 ✭✭✭BruteStock

Failure to grasp the rules is not the same as believing that both sides are subject to the same standards, their not. That façade has slipped a long time ago with regards to how big tech use their platforms to influence elections and silence their political adversaries. Hiding behind terms and conditions that can be altered at a whim to justify censorship is very predictable for people like you. When you support big tech and their T&C (that serve their own goals) , like you are doing now , it only serves as a reminder that your howls about a fair and honest election was total BS.

It never was , and will continue to not being a fair and honest election as the unprecedented level of power granted on big tech and social media platforms allows them to take active roles in politics. From vested financial and political motives to algorithmic influence , subjective censorship and calls to action on their platform.

This is what you can't grasp , or in reality , chose not to grasp. Because you continue to live in denial how the modern left have become the the new authoritarian loving Right. "Just follow the rules they lay out for you bro".. Yeah , no. History shows where that leads.

So Reagan, George HW Bush and the GOP in general were quite influential in the fall of the USSR. I know, I know there was other massive reasons, financially, politically, socially etc. But it must be said that they were a pretty big part in the fall and the emergence of Eastern European states, unification of Germany and other aspects. Sure, there were problems, later wars etc, as so often happens when countries gain their freedom.

But the current GOPski actually SUPPORT the recreation of the USSR. I suppose it gives them an enemy powerful enough that they can ramp up arms sales, feed into that fear or jingoistic 'Murica the great stuff they love so well. What better way to "Make America Great Again" than building a bigger "Bad Guy". So that's EXACTLY what GOPski will do.

They will point and say "This didn't happen on OUR watch". They will claim that their support of Putin and Russia against America's own interests is simply "fake News". "What about trump's support of Putin?" "No, he said that ironically". "What about GOP silence and lack of condemnation of Putin's illegal war?" "Biden was in power" "What about trump/GOPs withholding of assistance to Ukraine before invasion?" "Fake News" "What about GOP..." " Fake News" "What ab..." "Fake News"

GOPski really REALY is looking back to the good old days:

    • Russia was the bad guy (Working on that)
    • Women were in the kitchen and not seen or heard (Unless they have straight Blonde hair)
    • Jesus was a blonde, blue-eyed 'murican who wore a Colt.
    • Homosexuals were deviants to be feared and ignored
    • Ethnic minorities (ie, ANYONE non-white) were to be feared and ignored
    • Immigrants (Legal or illegal) were to be feared and hunted down/demonised
    • Women had NO say/control over their bodies
    • Minorities didn't/couldn't vote
    • The bigger and more inefficient your car is, the better the 'murican you are
    • The environment is for tree-huggers in California/surrender-monkeys in Europe

So THIS is why trump, his klan, fox/RT, GOPski are all furiously masturbating over this happening. It's the GOPski American Dream: Hello USSR, my old friend.

It was the GOP that facilitated companies being able to pour money into the US political system so that they could get huge sums of money from Fossil Fuel companies and others. They can't now whinge because other companies are choosing to spend their money against them.

Don't get me wrong , I'm completely against the whole idea of lobbyists and Dark Money filled PAC's and all of that , but that is a beast entirely of the GOP's making.

If the GOP don't like it then they can work to repeal Citizens United through updated legislation , but they won't because they want their money.

Now - Having said all that someone getting removed from an Internet platform because they are telling lies is not "Political activism" , it's removing a liar simple as that.

Trump went on that Podcast and told lies , lies that he and everybody else absolutely categorically KNOWS are lies.

The whole Right wing canard about "algorithms" and "shadow-banning" is absolute nonsense with zero basis in fact or reality.

I mean , Facebook do such a good job with their Algorithms and Shadow bans that only six of the Top-Ten most active posts on the platform in the US on Saturday were from confirmed Right-wing commentators.. And that day is absolutely consistent with any previous day you care to look at too.

Appalling left-wing censorship , just appalling.

So should a platform be obliged to host lies? I'm not talking about opinions or situations that are open to interpretation. What would happen if they were to continue to host statements that are known lies? They would be considered liable for these lies as they are hosting them.

Regarding the election. I believe that everyone bar trump/his klan can agree that it has been PROVEN that the allegations that were made were false. Maybe some were initial mistakes, maybe some were intentional lies. But now, in 2022, we can all agree that these were incorrect.

To continue to state these as FACT in 2022 MUST be considered to be lies. As a result, these platforms so not want to be sued. Which is probably why the conservative commentators above are still on the very same platforms. They are cleverer with their commentaries (Until they are not) and are not putting these platforms in a position to be liable for hosting/supporting proven lies.

Look how long Infowars was hosted on Youtube/Instagram etc? Right up until they were threatened to be sued because infowars was still spouting proven lies as fact.

Should a company not be able to protect themselves from lawsuits? Should they not be allowed to remove content which is proven to be fraudulent?

Wait, so have you moved on from your 'free speech' position. Can we at least agree that this has nothing to do with a denial of Free speech?

Right, so now that we an agree on that, you seem to have now moved on to the next enemy 'Big Tech'. So Big Tech, which these podcasters have used to generate income for themselves and is so useful that Trump hasn't stopped complaining how Big Tech is refusing him a platform, is now the problem? And what constitutes Big Tech? Is it only the likes of FB and YT? Banks use massive tech, the government uses massive tech. Hell, tech is everywhere.

What is your definition of Big Tech? Only when we can get an actual definition will it be possible to debate it as otherwise everything is talking about something different.

As for the election being stolen, that has been debunked so many times. If you have evidence of this I would suggest you get yourself connected to Trump so that he can bring this to court. I assume that all you have is the 'evidence' already supplied by the likes of Trump and Pillow Guy, ie nothing.

Finally I find the last but really odd. As the left is so much of a danger, why would you be worried that the left has now become the authoritarian loving Right? Doesn't that mean that you won and they are doing exactly what you want them to do?

In News that will shock almost no one , Trump has been caught out scamming his supporters again.

This time , he advertised that they could win a private dinner with him in a fancy restaurant in New Orleans with Flights and Hotels covered too and would be entered into the draw simply by donating to his PAC.

No one actually got the prize and no one had dinner with him.

They claim that it was an admin error and that they simply forget to inform the winner. However there no evidence that there was even any bookings made for flights, accommodation or anything else.

Back in 2019 an earlier report counted 15(!!!) other similar scams raffles where a Dinner or other personal meeting with Trump had been offered without any evidence that any of these had actually happened.

Trump literally could not be in the same room as these people and yet they all think he's awesome and that he really cares about them and their plight.

All he wants is their money and once he has it he couldn't care less of they lived or died.

    It's sad.
