A quick google search returned a few kits for repairing the damaged thread. They consist of a drill bit, a few helicoidal inserts and a tool to place it. The inserts come in several thread sizes.
It is a shame to throw away otherwise perfectly fine boots and get new ones. Has any one done this before? Is there another way to fix the stud in place?

Im afraid your boots are dead. Had the same issue with a pair of Adidas myself. The thread is fecked. How much is the kit? Might he better putting it toward new boots.
