22 degrees in Match wow amazing don't remember that Gaoth Laidir.

Yesterday I was siting in very sheltered spot in park with sun directly shining on me + I could actual feel the heat in it for first time since last autumn, it was amazing, roll on the summer no wonder the bumble bees are out!

another beautiful day after a night of heavy frost.

Met Eireann saying it could go as low as -5 tonight. Surprised they didn’t put out a low temperature warning.

Stunning day here in Kerry, barely a cloud in the sky. Great spell of weather for the garden with the ground drying out nicely .Topping trees and pruning branches and two cuts of the grass so far, good to get the work done this week because as Gonzo pointed out looks quite wet and breezy /blustery at times over the next 10 days.

Meanwhile (a balmy) 6.4c here in Greystones right by the sea!

I was chatting to my cousin who lives in Switzerland in a town at 450m asl. She's only seen a dusting of snow 3 times this winter and it melted everytime well before dusk. 700m or so faired a lot better. Been a poor winter snow wise for a lot of Europe.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 17,415 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

yep another very poor winter for European snow, almost as bad as the pv of doom winter 2019/2020. Snow being very much confined to Norway, northern half of Sweden, Finland and Greece. Same places in for alot of snow over the next week with Greece possibly getting hammered next weekend. This seems to be a regularly occuring winter theme over the past 10 years which can carry over into the first 6 weeks of Spring.

The PV and the Atlantic took away our winter yet again this year, hoping for more in the way of success next winter but we will probably face another strong PV.

Cold out there today + no sunshine to heat it up like we have had for the last week.

I think the change in weather is on the way.

Yep, here's your change - Yellow for 10 counties with an orange Marine warning. It was nice while it lasted.

Bitter wind. Must be coming off the cold Irish Sea. Feeling very raw. Brass monkey weather.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,653 ✭✭✭appledrop

Yep, I got the walk in, then straight home.

Brrr too cold to be out in that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,331 ✭✭✭✭Thelonious Monk

Jesus I can't feel my hands after jogging in that wind. Coldest it's been in ages. The steam from the incinerator in Dublin Port is at a right angle to the chimney going directly east, most of the year it's heading west out to sea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,646 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

The wind is absolutely cutting out there, being honest its taken a lot of the pleasure of jogging away, hopefully getting better soon.

March always reminds me of the Battle of the Bulge. It's often winter's last major offensive, like the Germans.

Also it's success is often determined by cloudy or clear skies. Snowfall lasts longer in cloudy conditions as the stronger sun's influence doesn't come into play as much. It feels colder in cloudy conditions too. Like the first 10 days of the Bulge were cloudy and foggy, the US couldn't bring the weight of their vastly superior air force to bear on the advancing Germans. But when the skies cleared, game over.
