Just turned sky news on there to see doctors trying to save a toddler who dies there and then (filmed yesterday in Mariupol I think). Its hard to think logically and not want to see Putin taken on with the full force of the west. Tragic needless loss of innocent lives.

I saw the elevator one earlier and thought it couldn’t be topped. But there comes granny with her cucumber and knocks it off the top spot 😂

Russia are only starting the Big War...after Ukraine is finally Bulldozed with a couple of hundred thousand dead Ukrainians - it will be Poland or Finland next up.

Dramatic much? You'd swear some people want this. No it won't be Poland or Finland next. Russia's big scary 'military might' has shown its many weaknesses in this invasion. An invasion against a country with little cash and much of their military equipment Cold War hand me downs and a country pretty ideal for military vehicle use. And even with their overwhelming manpower they're already bogged down in a few places because their tactics and fighting men are below par. Taking on a NATO country, even if we take nuclear weapons off the table(and their introduction in reality would be beyond a clusterfúck and I can't fathom why some people don't understand this), would be a very different prospect. The Finns have previous in dealing with Russian forces and totally fúcking them up. The Poles would fight like crazed animals if the Russians put a jackboot on the wrong side of their border and that's before the rest of NATO got involved. And get involved they would, because it would show Putin and his minions to be actually insane/stupid for escalating.

Plus it'll be a long time beforre Ukraine is close to being 'bulldozed' by the Russians. And even if they hold it there are thousands of armed to the teeth Ukrainians ready to make it Russia's Afghanistan all over again. And that's before the worldwide sanctions on near everything worth a damn for Russia that are going to bite ever harder and harder and their foreign reserves locked and the assets of their mafia ruling class seized. The world isn't just 'looking on'. I have never seen such swift, decisive and group condemnation and action from so many nations against one in such a short time. In a matter of days. They're cutting Russia off from the world and supplying support and arms to the Ukrainians. The World has said "enough" and loudly. The only thing they've not done, and it would be dribbling moron time to do it, is put troops on the ground. Y'know, because of WW3 and thermonuclear effin war.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

@Wibbs great post above my man. A hopeful outlook that is much much needed right now.

US Carrier Harry S Truman and several other ships have taken up position in the north Aegean Sea which is outside their normal operation area. The reason given is in case Russian warships try to ignore Turkey's denial of permission to transit Dardanelles and Bosphorous straits

One idea I've seen touted thinking outside the box is for multiple countries to literally saturate the sky with aircraft above the areas of concern in Ukraine, so that Russia would be unable to fly sorties and any incursion would be met with a wall of military airplanes with Russian fighters being escorted out of Ukrainian airspace. Logistically I imagine it would be a nightmare. Could it be done if there was enough international support?

Exactly. Also, the amount of assistance the E-8's, Global Hawk and E-3 Sentrys are giving, through secure Data communications, to the Ukranians is incredible. Most people are not aware of this. For example, within an hour of today's E-3 coming online in Poland, 3 aircraft were shot down. Their radar can see far into even Russia and they are giving the troops the heads-up on enemy movements in real-time. ( Jet heading North West, ETA your position 15 minutes, warm up a MANPAD)

Dramatic much? You'd swear some people want this.

It's incredible isn't it? It's been a long time since I've heard such chickenhawk gobshitery said about a war. Some people really do think that this is all just some LARP'ing XBox game or something. It really amounts to little more than something for them to yap about or try to score some cheap points on.

Russia's big scary 'military might' has shown its many weaknesses in this invasion.

I don't believe that the Russians had a solid plan for this and I also don't think that they've gone in hard against the Ukraine yet. Their ops have been...confusing...to say the least, and a lot of things seem to be very ad hoc. I also don't think that the average Russian, be they citizen or military, are fully behind it either. It all appears to designed on the hope that Russia could toss a few missiles in and the Ukrainians would just buckle and bish, bash, bosh..regime change. Unfortunately, for Putin, the rest of the world has rallied in behind Ukraine's plight. I reckon Vlad thought he'd have a free hand after the west had spend the last 20 years cosying up to him. Especially in the last few years with his best buddy in the White House saying nice things about him.

The main thing is, there are probably very few people outside of the top echelon of Russian government who actually know WTF this is all about and what the actual end game is, leading to what seems to be a very bizarre and unfocused campaign. That can lead to some very serious issues with the conduct of the war, as you'll have some real resentment building up amongst servicemen and women who'll be wondering what the hell they're supposed to be fighting for, with a danger that they'll end up taking it out on whomever is the easiest target.

Seen that on the other thread ,I'd be very sceptical ,I'd say that NATO has the Ukrainians on a tight leash to prevent them dragging more Russian forces into the fight

In my opinion this war is very tough on the mental health side of things beyond any current affair I’ve ever experienced before.

Our grandparents living in Ireland in 1939/1940 did not endure anything like we are enduring at the moment. Nuclear didn’t exist. The true evil of the Nazis had not become apparent. War news consisted of a few news bulletins and grainy black and white pictures in daily and heavily censored newspapers . Bar the hardships of the emergency it was pretty much business as usual.

We are being bombarded with up to the minute info. There are videos and pictures just a few clicks away of the most horrific and graphic nature coming in a torrent every day constantly reminding us of the true hell of war. It is intense it is brutal. And then the helplessness watching a country fighting alone. The last week feels like 10 years. Everything that was before nearly irrelevant now. And to know that there is more to come tomorrow and the day after. And it’s hard/impossible to switch off from it.

I'm sure that he has, and at this stage, he is winning by sheer brute force, but even at that, he is way behind schedule and has had to resort long range missiles and bombing in an effort to reduce the body bag nrs. So even in the places he tentatively holds presently, he will have an ongoing problem in holding them, and the longer it goes on the harder they will be to hold. He is in for a long drawn out war, with his forces being continually ground down as they were in Afghanistan and Chechnya, but possibly in an even worse fashion.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has just concluded a meeting in the Kremlin with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

So what was all this bullshit about Putin being holed up in a bunker in the Siberian mountains?

People need to learn not to believe every rumour they find on the Interweb.

I would usually agree with the blurring of the faces but I think the use of video is not to only document for them selfs but to illustrate how they treat their pow's. I haven't seen a video of a Russian being mistreated but I have seen many Ukrainians being mistreated by the Russians, especially from Putins little pigs, the Chechens. Both are guilty of propaganda especially when it comes to fake snuff videos. Telegram is like watching combat ultras in real time

Over the last couple of days I’ve begun to think he knew this was not going to be a popular war, with the troops or the home crowd. Could this be part of the plan, send in inexperienced troops into the city outskirts with little support so the resulting carnage would harden the minds of the rest of the armed forces and people at home?

He was never there. Think about it. The closest he gets to his team is about 15 feet away at a table..apparently paranoid of catching covid..or a knife on the back, and now surrounded by people

Posted earlier, the video was shot separately..his hand can be seen pass through a microphone multiple times

That's absolutely true. I'm someone who's always had a keen interest in Cold War/Current political and military matters, so on the surface, having this insight seems like a godsend for nerds like me. However, the flip side of this is that we're also exposed to the ugly side of war, the violence, death and suffering, as well as a seemingly endless shrieking crescendo of propaganda from both sides... well, primarily of one side in this particular conflict. This is definitely not healthy in any way, shape or form and we need to watch out for ourselves and our mental health. I've had struggles with my own mental health, so I know just how easy it is to slip into a doom spiral.

I shared the below link in a chat group with some friends who are following the war earlier today. It's a guide on preventing or limiting lasting effect from being exposed to this type of violence. It was made for those engaged in OSINT, but I think we should all take a good look at it. After all, our mental health is just as fragile as our physical health can be.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

I’m the last person to buy into conspiracy theories, but all the bizarre foliage behind him could be props to disguise any green screen reflection on his back! That used to be so obvious and distracting on the Vincent Browne Show on TV3.

To be honest that's a standard tactic employed the world over. It's an attempt to get an upper hand or extra card to play in the next round of negotiations.

Oddly enough on rte news earlier they showed a maternity hospital operating and delivering babies in their basement ,rte choose to Blur the mothers faces but didn't blur anyone else.
