Limericks confidence will be at an all time low going in to championship..they have been found out..how many all stars for 2022 now ??? One possibly two

They will be a different animal in the championship.

While Limerick are certainly no angels the Cork players tendency to go down cltuching the head in the hope of getting players sent off is shameful

Think the refs are finally starting to clamp down on the limerick filth, getting away with that craic for far too long.

Still though that's only have a limerick team they're keeping plenty in reserve still though nice to see their fans heading for the exit with 5 minutes to go.

The league is the league is the league. Limerick won't be worried about results.

I think a few posters here haven't read what I wrote. Limerick aren't overly physical . They play the game as it should be played. I'm fact the ref today should have sent off 23 for Cork but didn't because Hannon didn't go to ground. Weak reffing.

I shouldn't have brought up Tipp. But I do think it's in Tipps best interests to highlight Limerick because Tipp can't compete when the game gets really physical. They just don't have the size. So there is an agenda from some of the posters on here.

Cork were outstanding I thought. All that's good in Cork hurling, measured ,clever ,good shooting. Limerick will be different come championship but it was still important for Cork not to lose again

Talking about All Stars in February based on 3 league games. Absolutely laughable stuff altogether 😂 I remember similar talk going on last May when LImerick drew with Tipp in the league opener and then lost two games in a row to Galway and Waterford. We all know how the championship ended up going. People writing off Limerick already is ridiculous.

Delighted with how Wexford are going. Really hope we can keep this going into the championship

    Hahaha wow. An agenda... wow.

You can't "find out" a team with 3 All Irelands in 4 years.

They are playing crap and teams have adapted to their tactics but "found out" implies they are chancers.

Gonna be a real interesting year if league form holds. Dublin look strong enough to make it a 4 way battle to advance in Leinster and Antrim could pull of a big surprise win.

There is an epidemic of ball throwing in the game now. Awful to watch.

i still remember fondly the conversations/ chat we had outside the coffee shop in Donnybrook on the morning of the All Ireland with the many Cork supporters who chimed in and told us how many points we were going to loose by….

    😂😂😂😂😂😂

💨🤔… see ye n Pairc Ui Chaoimh lads

    this day 7 weeks

    Cant wait

Donal Og had a funny slant on it tonight. Saying the ref shouldn't blown it up unless he was 100% sure it wasn't a throw.

But shouldn't the onus be on the player to make it clear to the ref that there is a clear striking action when handpassing the ball. And if the ref doesn't see this, he should blow a free.

( Donal Og's comments on steps being a big problem in the game is 100% correct though)

Match I was at yesterday had two thrown balls called and I think Limerick vs Cork did too

Had guy beside me at match for GAA watching the ref and he did say alright that they are clamping down on it big time (if that wasn’t already clear)

I agree on steps being a big issue too. Frustrates me when we hear of an ‘unreal’ goal only for the player to have had the ball in his hand for far above 7/8 steps even.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,346 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

The onus should definitely be on the player. Also the demise of ground hurling over the years has resulted in all the scrambles we have now to get the ball into hand. All of it has lessened my enjoyment of the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,885 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

Agree. There always seems to be about 5 or 6 lads around the ball trying to scoop it up with one hand on the hurl. Awful to watch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,709 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Surely Antrim should be beating Laois

  • Site Banned Posts: 916 ✭✭✭Denny61

I think the hand pass should be eliminated..its doing no good to the Old style of hurling and tradition .now all coaches need to teach youngsters is throw the ball to each other from one end of the field to the other. And give it to a lad who has the SKILLS!!!!TO Hit the ball with the hurley in to the net or over the bar ..the SKILLS of ground hurling or soloing with the ball will die ...

judging on their games so far and on current form one would expect an Antrim win but Laois will be really up for it on home turf, in reality with a bit more composure and lady luck Antrim could have 3 wins at this point

The semi finals pairings could be decided this weekend

1A- wins for Wexford (playing Offaly( and Cork (playing Galway) will mean both teams will be on 8 points and can't be caught. The Round 5 meeting will be to decide who finishes 1st and 2nd. Galway beating Cork will make Round 5 very interesting as Galway will face Clare and have the head to head over Cork. Scoring difference will be used if 3x teams end up with the same points

1B- wins for Dublin (playing Kilkenny) and Waterford (playing Tipp) will mean both teams will be on 7pts and can't be caught. Wins for Kilkenny and Tipperary will mean they would overtake there opponents on the table going into Round 5

Ground hurling was shte. Bunch of apes swinging wild at a ball with no clue where its gonna go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,340 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

I think they should go the opposite way and just let players throw the ball. It would add a bit of variety to the game and stop the did he didn't he throw it. The main problem with hurling as I see it is how freetakers dominate the game. Which tend to make it dull at times.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,157 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

Agreed - if it had to be no hand pass at all or allowing throws, then it should be the latter.

Not sure what you could possible do if picking up the ball and being surrounded by 4 opponents in a pack if you can’t handpass it out.

No offence but I cannot believe that people can hold these opinions. What sort of shite would we end up with if players could throw the ball, you can't even throw it in Gaelic football. I know which of the two options you mention would lead to the more entertaining game. Hurling was never intended to be a possession based game, it's what kept it entertaining for so long. And what could you do if surrounded by four players in a pack and not permitted to handpass it out? You could not pick it up and do what hurlers were doing for thousands of years, pull on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,157 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

It’s 2022 now. Sports have moved on from ‘hit it long and get stuck in’ unfortunately for you.

Every sport now is based on the percentage play. Literally every single sport people are trying to find every edge possible. Having possession is key. Shooting from crazy distances (once you at least reach the endline is key) - hence why teams don’t beat themselves up over ‘wide’ counts that don’t have context behind them.….and so on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,340 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

So basically just lamp it as far as you can all the time? Where is the growth of the game of hurling in that?

There is no point in having rules that are difficult to enforce in the game of hurling. Steps are not enforced properly there should be a time limit instead of number of steps. 5 seconds - refs discretion.

It is also ridiculous that the refs have to look out for throwing the ball or not. Impossible a lot of times to see if a fella plamed the sliotar or not. The other poster had the right idea for hurling - either allow players to throw the ball. Or else outlaw the handpass entirely. Keep it simple for the refs.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Allowing the ball to be thrown without sanction would make an absolute dogs mickey out of our great game.

    Please do be serious people!!

That's fine and all but what has it got to do with what I wrote? We were discussing a hypothetical situation where there was the option of either having the handpass removed for the game or the throw allowed. I chose the former since I believe it would lead to a more entertaining game, closer to the way it was intended to be played.

You've used then what is a common tactic of "modern game" evangelists to dismiss people who don't find the game as it is played today as entertaining as it used to be, to accuse them of not understanding the reasons for players and coaches wanting to keep possession, of not keeping up with the "evolution", of expecting players to simply "hit it long and get stuck in". It doesn't take a analytical genius to understand why the game has changed in the way it has, and that is likely unlikely to go back in the other direction again (at least within the current rules or the application of the current rules) but people should still be able to express the opinion that the game is not as entertaining as it once was. And if there were to be any rule changes proposed, I'd be for the changes that would result in a more entertaining game rather than those that promote keeping more possession because they are "modern" and "intelligent" etc.
