Too young to remember Yugoslavia and the airstrikes on Iraq in the late 90s? All night live scenes of Baghdad getting hit. If anything they showed a bit less by 2001/3.

I remember sitting eating my breakfast with my dad watching UTV and the gulf War on it.

    Putin won't like this:-

For those who don't know, this is Mikhail Nikolaevich Matveyev, deputy of the Duma, it reads:-

I think that the war should be stopped immediately. Voting for the recognition of the DNR/LNR, I voted for peace, not for war. For Russia to become a shield, so that Donbass is not bombed, and not for Kyiv being bombed.

Live stream - really loud gunfire now. They literally right there by the sounds of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,917 ✭✭✭GM228

And then silence with a perfectly timed crow caw, like something from a film, chilling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,126 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

Did you hear it. It sounded like just off screen.

A lot of Ukrainian dead and injured there it seems. Will be the same on the Russians no doubt.

I will self quote and report myself. I cannot believe that folks like this poster are allowed on this site. People are dying and chuckles here only focuses on a Ukrainian lady's hair. This poster would be lucky if he had a hundredth of the guys of some of these folks.

That's 2 APC'S out of action with their crews. I say once the Russians see videos of this they will be a lot more trigger happy with civilians. Just shows tho molotov cocktails worked wonders for folks fighting against the Nazis in that part of the world in WW2 and same now again 80 years later.

Would wait for that to be verified.

Whatever the situation or where that was though a bunch of people with petrol bombs taking on tanks is gutsy to say the absolute minimum.

They got their name being used against Russian vehicles by Finns, ironically enough. Molotov being the Soviet foreign minister.

Are Molotov cocktails even effective against modern APC/tanks?

It's tearing me up to watch this. I was in Kyiv in summer 2019 & loved the friendly people, I am lost for words watching the heroic locals fighting for their nation & liberty.

I despise all the enablers & apologists that scumbag Putin. People in western nations living easy lives away from the tragedy that is unfolding.

Just watching these scumbag attacks, locals fighting back with petrol bombs against evil invaders, I'm getting sick of these useful idiots that blame it all on the west . I'm in bits & never thought we would see this in modern Europe in my lifetime, we lived through the cold war but now we get this shite. **** Putin, freakfaced ****, he deserves to die a painful death for his many crimes.

May the Gods help the people of Ukraine cause no one else fecking won't. Politicians in the western democracies hold your heads in shame.

Anyone defending or offering up any sort of excuse for this war by Putin is by definition engaging in fascism and providing shelter for fascism in the democratic world. That's no exaggeration and not a Godwin. This war is a fascist war all ends up. Putin and his crime syndicate circle carry the can alone, and handwringing or 'yeah but' about any other country are enablers. God help the poor misled young Russian men being sent to fight and die for fascism given their country's history.

At the end of this may Ukraine still stand as a sovereign democratic nation, and may Putin meet justice.

Sure. They have intakes, filters, and occasionally open hatches.

President Biden has signed the Executive Order to provide $600 million worth of "immediate military assistance" to Ukraine, remind me again what Putin said about anyone who assisted Ukraine?

Will be interesting to see what rhetoric comes from the Kremlin on the topic today

Sky News reporting that two "American officials with direct knowledge of conditions on the ground in Ukraine" are confirming the two Russian IL76s were indeed downed by Ukraine

My gut is the Russian nation will lose their stomach for this war very quickly. A combination of unacceptable losses of troops, wondering why they are fighting a supposedly fraternal nation, and the sting of the economy faltering, the penny will drop with the broad mass of Russians in the next couple of weeks. Russians are an educated people, the 'denazification' pretext might work on old codgers losing their faculties whose parents fought in WW2 - but it won't wash with anyone else and people will start speaking up. The Afghanistan war generation and Chechen war generation know what an unjust war costs.

A despicable war, and if were to bet, the end of Putin. Someone will turn on him once the people stop fearing police repression for protesting.

With every dawn that comes where they haven't broken Ukrainian resolve, the war will slip away from the Russians.

The City did not fall overnight. That's crucial. That's given a huge boost to morale to the troops/militias.

The president's response to Biden " I want bullets, not a ride out of here", is a powerful message.

Russian casualties are growing the closer they get to City centre. They may take the city for a while, but they definitely won't keep it.

Putin must be livid. And that's the danger. This has become a war of necessity for Putin. Ukraine has conceded in only small pockets around the country.

At the moment the Ukraine army in all other cities are holding strong. This is far from the walkover Putin said it would be.

    Yesterday,

Convoy of 60 military vehicles delivered weapons and munitions to Ukraine from the polish government.

Daughter of Russian official posts "Stop the war", on Twitter. More protests last night in Moscow, and they are growing each night. Remember, they have not stopped the protests.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,819 ✭✭✭greenpilot

This war also gives hope to surrounding Countries under threat. The beast bleeds. The great "unstoppable power" can be stopped or destroyed.

Remember, the war was initially cold-war era equipment against each other. However, Western equipment, especially anti-tank, has made a difference.

The shooting down of both IL-76 is also key. It was reported that a Russian built missle system was used. I'm suspicious about that. I'd bet it was a Western system, but they are keeping quiet about it.

This is the estimated state of the Russian advance a few hours ago

    Untitled Image

Kharkiv is still being contested in the east,

The Russians hit a major stumbling block at the city of Kherson in the south. Their failure to take the Antonovskiy bridge over the Dneiper on the 24th meant they had to move their entire column to the next bridge several kilometers away in the town of Nova Kakhovka, they eventually overpowered the Antonovskiy bridge defenders on the 25th and moved into the city itself where fighting is ongoing

Only units from the north pushing south have made the most progress including capturing Chernobyl, capturing Antonov airport north of Kyiv (which they were subsequently dislodged from) and now they're trying to encircle Kyiv
