Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi folks. I'm going to remake the video guide to importing a car to Ireland since Brexit which was on John's Garage. A calculation error was pointed out to me in the original.

With that in mind, is there any common questions you'd like me to include which keep cropping up. I'd like to try and make the next video a one stop shop so to speak. Please type any questions below and if you know the correct answer feel free to include it also but ONLY if its 100% correct.

This week we take a look at the history of the Toyota Starlet EP 70/71 . I've included a lot of adverts and promotional material.

    Please ensure you subscribe!

    Hope you all enjoy it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

Hope you all enjoyed that folks. Didn't seem to be as popular as other videos but you live and learn. If you didn't get a chance to watch it I'd recommend doing so as it contains a lot of ads for the Starlet from the 80s!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,010 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

There was also two lightweight versions introduced in 86, Turbo R and RI. The RI came with a 2E-E,rear spoiler, front lip and a red/black interior. The Turbo S and R could be got with TEMS, electronically controlled shocks. The Turbo versions got a bit of a face-lift in 88 with a different grill, front bumper and sideskirts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

Do you SI that's mentioned? There are brochure shots of that in the video. It's pretty much a warmed over 2E 3 dr with sporty touches and interior. Looked great, I remember a few about back in the day. The Turbo then was the 1.3T which we all know.

I actually can't get over how nice it was to drive, especially with the 4 speed box. Always felt like I was racing. Would make your ears bleed on the motorway however

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,462 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

You have 2 starlet videos up. Admittedly that car wouldn't be of huge interest to me but I thought it was the same clip I was seeing again as its presented with very similar image of starlet from opposite sides.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

Yes, one is history and one is drive. Might be a thought for the future. Thanks for saying it.

Why wait and think about good advice as they say

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,010 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

There was an SI,SI- Limited, Canvas top SI and the RI "lightweight" which was a introducted with motorsport in mind which is pretty rare now. Don't want to be clogging up the thread, have a few brochure photos

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

No clog it up! I missed that but I think that's the brochure I used. If I remember correctly they weight 720kgs standard so any lighter would be a blast

The weight is somewhere a long the lines of 720-750kgs. I have one with the later 4efte turbo engine with 165bhp and its so much fun to drive! Here's some brochure photos of models, engine, optional extras etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

There is a cool looking sound system in the 4th last image, looks very 80s cool 😎

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,010 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

Some very cool little extras alright, I love those foglights that the cover opens when you press a button

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 591 ✭✭✭NBar

I had a boxy 5 door 1 litre with the 5 speed box a few years ago, it was the best car in the bad snow we had as with the skinny tyres would go anywhere and was passing out 4x4 on the roads with ease

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

Had the same previously with a little Clio. Like a mountain goat for the same reason.

    Hi John

Great Video and well done, Maybe if you could get your hands on a windscreen mount for the camera it would stop you having to take yours eyes off the road so often and it would look more like the other channels on youtube. Just a thought

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,873 ✭✭✭John_Rambo

    I enjoy these videos.

Could I suggest trying to stick to one look on the thumbnails? One font, one colour and don't deviate? PM me if you want me to come up with something for you. (for free).

Fingers crossed you review an old civic

I'd love to and I spotted your comment under the MX5 video today.

I had money put aside for a new camera and mount and on the last shot of the E30 video the wind blew over my tripod and broke the phone screen I was using.....cost €300 to replace.

We also had a new baby arrive last Friday which has curtailed any spending plans for the next while.

I do have cameras and mounts picked out which would allow me to film on my own but I can't see them being bought in the next couple of months.

HOWEVER, if anyone happened to have an old camera with a mount that is working fine I'd be interested if I could pick one up cheap.

First up, HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported the channel so far. This week will see the upgrading of the channel in EVERY respect, new camera, sound equipment, camera mounts and software.

And thanks to an anonynous channel fan NEW LOGOS.

But we're still focusing on Ireland and modern/retro/vintage cars here.

I'm filming like mad this week to get content to keep things going until Easter, so far we've recorded a proper piece of French luxury from 1984, a car that was cubed on the factory floor, some hot cats from France and in a couple of weeks a rare gullwing sports car...... and nearer to Easter the first car that put the peddles in the correct order. All of these have contributed to motoring in their own way over the past 100 YEARS.

Don't forget to subscribe and click the video below and try to guess what car is REVVING UP for our new starting sequence.

I'm filming a Pug 508 PSE tomorrow. Let me know if youd like to know anything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,462 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Nice video. Very rare car around my neck of the woods. Think there was only ever 1 owned locally here.

    Camera is better for sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

I remember them locally but we had 3 dealers close by so Renault were always popular.

    I've more French greatness tomorrow, 508 PSE and a 406 V6 Coupe......

My mates dad had one of them with the fancy sound system. He was the CEO of a state company. The height of luxury back then. New gear is working well, sound and vision better.

This week we'll be taking a look at the interesting history of the Renault 25 and why it was both a huge success and failure for Renault.

Folks, I'm going to delay this week's episode. I'm afraid my lovely dog Bella was injured in an accident this evening and is going for surgery tomorrow. As she has been at my side during all production and countless other motoring adventures I'd like to give her and my kids my full attention over the next few days.

In the meantime there are 29 videos on the channel for you to enjoy and dont forget to subscribe.

Hope you understand and you can look forward to a new episode in a few days,

    John

Really admire your commitment to this, it no doubt takes a lot of time and effort. I’m seeing a lot of cars from my childhood here, lots of memories. hope your dog recovers fully!

Hi folks, This week on John's Garage I take an interesting new Peugeot 508 PSE for a drive and explain how you could own it.

The Renault 25 history video has been deferred until next week.

For those interested Bella my dog is still badly injured and we find out on Saturday if she needs an operation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

Sorry for being so slow to respond to this, thanks so much for the nice comment! Sometimes I'm not sure if anyone is reading or keeping up with the posts at times. I'm not going to lie, getting one new video out a week is a hell of a challenge at times but glad you're enjoying it.

As for Bella, she has had to rest a huge amount this week and we will find out at the weekend if she needs an operation so fingers crossed for that.

Serious car but would be hard to justify the price as it will surely drop value as rapidly as it accelerates.

Would be a nice buy at 3 year old possibly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

Its hard to argue with that. Peugeot values seem to be stabilising on the used market but I don't know if that's because of how things are currently or because used buyers are finding them more desirable.

As a car it's impressive but I wouldn't be buying it with the intention of changing it quickly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,239 ✭✭✭Pussyhands

Watched your first video and your last and seems production quality is much improved, fair play.

First video, the sound quality wasn't great.

For YT channels, production quality can really cover for a lesser quality content so it's really important imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

    It's improving all the time.

I've no back ground in any of this, media, editing, filming etc etc so just learning as I go. Also, buying new equipment when I've a little spare cash. I do enjoy it though. I'm just hoping to constantly improve over time. I've a busy day job so this is firmly in hobby territory.

I've just finished editing a video for April which I think is as good as I've made so far. And currently writing a script for a history video on Peugeot Talbot Sport which i think is a little different. Hopefully people are just enjoying it, I'm just trying to share the fun I'm having.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,462 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

The odd arty shot is making an appearance - you must be getting the hang of it.

I can imagine there is alot of work in editing all this stuff not to mention arranging cars to drive, research etc.

Nice to see the odd modern car too.
