First wicket for Ireland. Top edge in the third over, Oman 13-1.

First ball of spin from Ireland and Singh gets the wicket. Looked a poor decision as he seemed to be well outside the line.

    28-2.

Oman 50-2 after 8. Ireland need to break this partnership as they are starting to look comfortable against spin.

Massive wicket! Little gets Khan and its 68-3. Ireland badly, badly needed that as both batsmen were in.

    Nice wicket. 68/3 after 10

Oman 68 for 2 after 10. Ireland had 77 after 10. This could be close. But I think Oman will have to increase the pressure a little bit, and that might help the bowlers.

Edged and Little had another one! 68-4.

Oven 11 could be decisive for us, 2 wickets and just the 1 run.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,179 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Oman 69-4 from 11, whilst Ireland were 96-2 at the same stage, so Oman will now have to take risks.

Oman 86-5 after Singh picked up the 5th. Ireland just need to keep their heads now.

80 required from 36 balls with 5 wickets in hand.

2 wickets in 2 balls for Young and they are now on the brink.

    87/7

    Surely job done.

And finally they get the last wicket. Deservedly qualify for the World Cup.

It's been a huge struggle at this format for the past while, but that has been a very good recovery from the squad after a disappointing opening defeat to UAE.

Ireland did it well in the end, and UAE beat Nepal in a remarkably similar game, 165 ended up being a good score, and breaking the 3rd wicket stand was the key to the victory

The decisive thing was the Oman over that conceded nineteen.

    Congrats.

Was a boost for sure, took the score from 77 to 96 Delaney hit 3 sixes

Great to see Tector Delany McBrine all contribute good scores Delany is probably our best T20 batsman IMO so often there is a collapse after the 2 openers get out but not today that's a real boost and all bowlers bowled well today a great team performance and we've achieved a deserved qualification.

Am I correct in thinking that if we beat UAE we will end up in a group with West Indies, Scotland and the runner up of the other qualifying tournament, most likely Netherlands? A loss would mean we join Sri Lanka, Namibia and the winner of the other qualifying tournament, most likely Zimbabwe?

Or are the qualifier spots for those World Cup groups to be decided?

It also meant the bowler didn't get another over so their plan was upset.

It's unclear which Qualifier number is assigned each team. I can only see references to Q1-4 but Hobart or Victoria are the two venues for the first round.

I can't find an answer for this anywhere. I can only assume that Q1 and Q2 will come from group A. And Q3 and Q4 from group B. Makes sense. So a win would take them to Hobart. Cracking place for a game. Was there when they beat Zimbabwe with the last catch of the last ball in the ODI world cup in 2015. Planning to head down there in October if it all works out.
