Freedom Day - February 28th End of mask mandates

On Feb 28th the mask mandate will finally be lifted in Ireland and we will be able to go back to living our lives.

Of course those that are anxious or of a nervous disposition can continue to wear them or isolate.

Hard to quantify how much general anxiety or fear has been ingrained in a portion of the population so won't be an easy transition for a minority.

I'm fairly sure that mask-wearing is generally a placebo measure at this stage.

Cases in Ireland skyrocketed even with lockdowns and masks. The US recommends that vaccinated people don't need masks, while unvaccinated should wear them, and most public places leave it to individual discretion, which I think is probably the right call at this stage, so long as the pandemic continues to wind down.

Wear a mask if you want.

Not sure why a mask was stopping you from living but anyway i'll continue to wear one in shops and public transport as i haven't had the flu for two years

either way - you should exercise your god given rights to wear a mask on your face 24 hours a day. And you should do so without fear of criticisms or witticisms.

but if you're going to wear one - you might as well make sure it's as protective as it can be. Otherwise what's the point?

Can't wait to do all of the things I couldn't do with a mask on! Like lick all the fruit in the supermarket and spit on the floor.

In all seriousness however, I am sort of looking forward to going to the shops without a mask on, but I won't pretend it was anything other than a minor annoyance for the last 18 or so months.

Supermarkets in cities don't mean much but in rural areas supermarkets and POs etc are places where locals meet and chat

Sane as the rest of restrictions , some people have been better off mostly the older married types WFH

Out of interest why only appropriating blame to masks? We know using a mask is just one of several measures advocated to help reduce the spread of covid.

Why not claim the effectiveness of handwashing or social distancing or lack thereof for rising infection of Omicron? Or the fact the latest variant is between 2 to 4 tines more infectious than previous variants?

I find the whole mask obsession thing to be a bit strange in this forum. Its like some type of mondirectional mindset

Eitherway we know that the mandatory use of masks will be removed soon. Maybe best not to get worked up about it. Most people aren't.

If like me and many others you have to wear masks for 10 hours plus a day, then they are more than a slight inconvenience, they are an absolute nightmare and I for one cant wait for the things to be gone.

I can't wait for them to be gone and we can go out again to enjoy places like museums and art galleries again. I also have to wear one all day at work. They do f'all to protect you from covid if you're stuck in small space for period of time with the infected person (I got my dose on the plane). Now if you're on the move in spacious building like in the supermarket, wearing mask is basically a showing others that you're a good law abiding citizen and that's about it.

Anyway, they're gone very soon from our faces but them littered streets and roadsides are gonna be an eye sores for many years to come.

Of all the pandemic rules masks really were the least restrictive. I mean what's this "back to living our lives" shte, how much did masks impact things. The anti lockdown crowd really picked the wrong hill to die on with the masks.

Also I'm already sick of this "anxious" narrative suddenly being pushed.

If you wear glasses and look down at a book, no matter what you do or how tight your mask fits, your glasses steam up, same looking at your phone. I've tried it multiple times over the 2 years. Its a pain in the hoop.
