I think people who enjoy the Tucker Carlson show are simple minded and completely incapable of critical thinking.

Not everyone who watches it enjoys it.

I watched the tucker show from last night suggested by @matchbox2021 interesting section on crime increase in cities.

Crime up 40% in new york city.

Also had the LA county sheriff on and he was saying due to defunding still going on in LA he has lost thousands of police officers and due to this police officers having to work 30days in a row.

This is stuff you wouldn't really see on the other news channels so definitely worth a watch in my opinion.

His show had the Kyle Rittenhouse footage not seen anywhere else released shortly after the shootings that exonerated Rittenhouse. Footage the prosecution didn’t even have in court. Footage completely ignored by almost everyone else.

There was some controversy about this during the court case with the footage from the show being referenced, how could the prosecution not obtain it a year later after Carlson’s show showed it. They tried to show a watered down smaller version of the file with less information and not even the footage but a still shot. The media were trying to paint a narrative that wasn’t true.

Carlson called it when the rest were trying to vilify Rittenhouse.

This is his MO. He paints the a picture of a country that’s on a terminal decline into a crime ridden dystopia: in democratic controlled areas.

He happily ignores the book burning in GOP run states and defends right wing extremists though. Zero balance.

See, this is where critical thought is needed and ties straight back to what tucker tries to do and I'd be disappointed that someone would try and push this because either they don't understand or they're accepting of a narrative without thinking it through.

What do you think is the big difference between January 2021 and January 2022?

The worst thing is the data that Fauxnews use, come from the NY Post. This is one Murdoch outlet feeding 'information' to the other Murdoch outlet. NY Post might as well be 'entertainment' only rather than news, but it barely does report news. Fox news makes no such pretensions.

Crime in NYC waxes and wanes. De Blasio didn't do good things for crime in NYC. Prosperity helped Koch and Rudi G. Will see what happens once Covid unwinds. Adams the ex-Transit cop seems like a pretty good choice for mayor.

And if you don't like CCTV, you'd hate the wealthier parts of Manhattan 😉

This is the percentage increase over 2 years 2019 to 2021.

I understand this rise came under both trump and Biden and I'm not sure what effects the rioting had on these figures if any but some crazy increases there no matter what way you look at it.

Suspicious of that data. For one, 'major cities' in the US don't include the likes of Louisville, Baton Rouge, Rochester.... Guns have been selling like crazy the last few years, that's one cause.

You realise that the article there doesn't quote a source or studies for the that picture you posted right?

Found a link with some details: https://abcnews.go.com/US/12-major-us-cities-top-annual-homicide-records/story?id=81466453 . That image is from the daily mail. The one above, wherever it comes from, has added Oakland.

Still don't agree on the choice of the word 'major' for the likes of Toledo and Rochester, but it gets the clicks.

No surprise that Donnie's clapping seals on here swallow his bullshit

Interesting that you haven't said what the big difference between January 2021 and January 2021 is and have clearly gone searching to back up your position and found a daily mail article :)

The question remains as to whether you didn't understand the data or purposely posted something misleading, initially I thought the latter but now I'm leaning towards the former.

Supporters of Biden here may I ask where or for what reason you think this administration lost the approval of the American people so drastically in a year?

It started so promising as the most popular president to ever be voted in but went south quicker than any of us predicted.

    I don't understand your question?

What is the biggest difference to January 2021 to January 2022?

In what area? Crime economy COVID? Please specify

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 323 ✭✭arthursway

Are you trolling or what exactly is your question dude?

What is the big difference between Jan 2021 and jan 2022? In what area are we talking?

Maybe some sort of gun control legislation might be in order?

    It hasn't.

Even if the data you show is representative of the wider view amongst the population, it still only equates to only about 1 in 10 people changing their mind, maybe even less.

As to why that happened, some people probably are only waking up to the reality that governance is difficult, after they were brainwashed in to thinking it was so easy a reality TV show guy could do it. It's even more so when the biggest cable news channel is actively broadcasting propaganda to try to make your job even more difficult. That's more than enough to account for a 10% swing if you ask me.

But, talking about the rate at which people thought it would go south, lots of people expected Trump would be back in power by then so by that token, you would have to agree that Biden is doing much much better than they expected. Wouldn't you say so?

This was also in that daily mail article:

The grants also come as FBI crime data shows that the number of arrests nationwide plummeted 24% in 2020, from the more than 10 million arrests made in 2019. The number of 2020 arrests -- 7.63 million -- is the lowest in 25 years.

There was also a surge in police officer retirements last year.

A workforce survey released in June by the Police Executive Research Forum found the retirement rate in police departments nationwide jumped 45% over 2020 and 2021.

And another 18% of officers resigned, the survey found, which coincided with Floyd protests and calls to defund law enforcement agencies. “

Perhaps crime and homicide are related to arrests and the amount of good officers.

That’s cherry picking. Tucson and Rochester and backwaters, not major cities.

This is what I mean about a lack of critical thinking. You just swallowed that whole. How reliable is that source?

Read that again man you blamed everyone but Biden.

Blaming fox news for Bidens drop in approval?

    Oh governance is difficult?

That's like me saying Donald Trump's low approvals were because of CNN and that governance is difficult?

That might stick more for Donald trump as he is brand new to politics. Biden has 8 years as a VP and a lifetime of politics under his belt for crying out loud.

Your an intelligent guy and I enjoy some of your posts but you are blinded when it comes to Biden and are unable to critique him honestly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,153 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

I'm not blinded, I have said repeatedly that he should be doing more to ensure things such as the voting rights and Build Back Better Bills had a chance of success and also that Democrats should fight fire with fire when it comes to how conservatives have shown their true colors.

But I am not going to ignore the reality to feed your narrative just because you want me to be objective while you refuse to be.

What is so Bullshit about the statistics?

Have you statistics to counter my statistics or are you just gonna call them bullshit because you don't like them?

    The floor is yours.

Why do you constantly ask me questions I already given the answer to?

This isn’t a list of major cities, as I said. This is a cherry picked list, as I said. They’ve picked a load of cities with increased murder rates and published a list. With no context. You have applied no critical thinking as usual. You swallowed it whole, as usual.

It says everything that you think it comes down to like or dislike. It doesn’t.
