Not a huge amount of test experience in that squad. Only 6 players with more than 50 caps. Very much focused on building for the future I’d say.

Really don't know what Eddie Jones has against George Ford. He's the best 10 in England

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭Muligatawney

Agreed to an extent but there's plenty of guys less than 50 caps there you'd call experienced. Cowan Dickie, Sinckler, Curry and Slade are all very much proven at test level now. I'd say Jones will have that team humming come the next World Cup anyway. The centres look like the only potentially weak area when Tuilagi is out.

19 players have 10 caps or less, I think 17 have 5 or less. There is still a good backbone of the last RWC team there. I think 11 from the 23 in the final. For a 6N squad to have more than half the group on 10 caps or less, is fairly light in experience, I would have thought though.

Having said that, Jones did something similar in 2018. Where he seemed to cow tow to public pressure. Only to be be able to turn around and say, I told you we can’t play that way. Then went back to route one for the RWC.

Exeter Chiefs are dropping the Native American branding from July. They will keep their 'Chiefs' nickname but will now use imagery from the Celtic Iron Age Dumnonii Tribe.

"For medical reasons Mark McCall will be taking a short break from being Director of Rugby at Saracens.

People will always come first at our club and Mark will be given all of the support and time he needs.

Meanwhile we would ask that everyone respects Mark’s privacy. Mark is obviously more than confident in the coaching team he has worked with for many years to temporarily take the reins."

Hopefully it's nothing too serious for him.

In the latest chapter of the Welsh living in the past, the Scarlets are organising a game against the all blacks this year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of their win. Can't say I'm a fan of the idea I love the idea of going back to old school tour games like that but plenty of teams more deserving of a craic then the Scarlets.

Like who? Did you say same about Munster and their games against Australia and New Zealand?? The All Blacks will go to sides they can tie their history to as well as newer places.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,281 ✭✭✭Thrashssacre

Leicester, Leinster, Toulouse for one, Scarlets aren't competitive enough currently to be given a craic at least when Munster played in 2008 they were a team in top form. These matches are fantastic for fans but we need to make sure there somewhat competitive i think.

Could you tell me when Leicester,Leinster and Toulouse for Three?! Beat the All Blacks? The Ethos of the Game is all about Friendship, something you seem to have no Concept of!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,542 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Do these sides want to play? Were they available?

Leinster have much less history of playing touring sides. they generally havent played them as internationals were in Dublin and the touring sides went to Munster, elsewhere to go around the country

Since when has competitiveness come into this? Munster got the game because of it 30 years since the 12-0 win, the tie to Adidas etc.

Good to see so many rugby clubs getting funding from Sports Capital Grants which were announced today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,450 ✭✭✭blackwhite

We had every one of our local TDs, as well as a local Senator, make contact with various people in the club last night to tell us we'd made the list. Scrambling to take credit for something they likely had little or no input into

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,542 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Yeah No input. The TDs, senators, councillors can send in letters of support with an application but it doesnt make any difference to the process of deciding who gets what or how much. The grants have a scoring system and its all based around that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,450 ✭✭✭blackwhite

Certain politicians do have some influence - in particular the Minister for Sport can often see unusually high levels of grants arrive into their own constituency. Think Jim McDaid in the boom years, and Shane Ross more recently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,542 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Not really though now compared to the past. The system used to give grants was overhauled and is far more transparent than ever before.

I know of at least 2 cases in very recent years where the score weightings were changed to reduce the negative impact on scores that a previous grant award would have otherwise had.

This is not a good look for Rugby. Have a read of this thread.

    Saw that earlier.

You’d hope the RFU will make a point of taking action before it comes to World Rugby or 6 Nations Rugby having to act

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,659 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Just read through the thread on the England U20 HIA.The English doctor needs a dressing down immediately.

He constantly tried to override the referees authority and the neutral doctors opinion. The entire point of the neutral doctor is to avoid situations where players are cleared by team doctors when really they have no right to actually be back on the pitch. Nobody wants another Florian Fritz situation where Toulouse's doctors cleared him to return to the pitch when he was clearly concussed.

  • He needs a dressing down from the tournament organisers, what a shithead. Between talking to the ref like that and his disregard for player welfare.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

He needs to be removed from his position IMO. Dressing down isn't good enough.

Also Chris Farrell was very lucky last night. Rufus McLean failed his HIA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 336 ✭✭Rugbymad2020

I remember somthing similier with Healy a few years back,HIA not done and the ireland doctor left him on the field dazed and confused.wasn’t the first time either with Healy if I remember correctly

  • It has happened loads of times in the past, there was a shocking one with BOD against France in about 2014+- (edit, it was home so not 2014 but can't recall the year). I don't think it would happen with an Irish side today though. There's been no chances taken with Ryan or Doris for example.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,404 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

A doctor is supposed to have a duty of care to their patients. This was abundantly ignored for the sake of competition. That doctor should be called before World Rugby and/or a medical board as that was utter negligence.

Lots of things happened in the past but, thankfully, things are a lot tighter nowadays. Or I thought there were.

Mind you I've never seen a doctor arguing with a referee. Completely wrong.
