Walking away is silly considering you can sell privately and walk away with the equity you would have had if you were trading in for another car.

That's bizarre. I'm on PCP too and it was made very clear that the guaranteed final value was just a breakdown of the finance. The price of the car is split into deposit plus monthly plus final.

My final value is just under €18k and if the car it worth more (a certainty, the way things are going) then I'll have that equity going forward.

For the first edition VW offered a lease and pcp options. This sounds like the lease. They were giving it out with no deposit to fulfil their numbers.

if you got the first three months payments free then it’s a lease. I had to sign as well that there was no value at the end.

Although even with this the car is still worth more to dealers than its currently owed value. How long that lasts I do not know (probably until intel get their 2 chip factories built in the US and wherever they put their European one.)

I got three months payments back and I'm 100% positive I'm in a PCP contract.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 553 ✭✭✭ddarcy

The lease and pcp are structured exactly alike. Except the lease has no equity at the end. Although it still could. I think this was a one time thing to get people in cars. It doesn’t look like it’s being offered anymore.

"To get people into cars", it's mad how in a short year or two how things change.

Now people are looking to get into cars rather than them trying to get people into cars.

I’ve heard, so unless someone actually works for vw and can very take only as a reasonably sounding rumour, that as it was expected to be launched earlier in 2020, the sales targets and vw orders for cars were pre-set for the year. So instead of moving a 1000 cars over the year, they had 3 months to do it.

I think VW are actively discouraging sales of the more basic ID.3 models, which is a pity as these IMO are the best value. Because they are least profitable for VW, it is totally understandable from their point of view. They also have commitments to manufacture for their other brands which probably has to take some precedence atm. They just don't have the production capacity as yet and not helped by chip shortages etc.

Also the Koreans are pumping loads of cars into the country (They used to always drip feed) and looks like Tesla will become more available with China producing and soon Berlin. And their LFP battery chemistry will probably be hard to beat. VW are going to loose market share unless production can be increased fairly soon.

We who have our cars are the lucky ones, depreciation should be low.

VW have a plant in the states which will be pumping out IDs later this year and I believe another one in China.

Zwickau is full EV production with capacity to build 300,000 annually. I wonder how many they produced last year Vs how many they will produce now with the ongoing shortage. Is production really shaping up to be worse this year?

If this year's allocation are already gone and the likes of the Cupra Born allegedly only getting 10 units for Ireland with a 5:1 ID.3:Born ratio that doesn't bode well for production numbers this year compared to last year. 1,300 units sold last year seemed like a decent number?

That sounds like 150 miles range from 100 percent unless I'm missing something.

Doesn't sound too bad for the cold conditions

I was gaving a look at the ionic 5 last week, they offered me €30,000 for my id3 first plus.

Right front wheel with no damage. Left front wheel with tyre wear

Just noticed that the tyre on left front wheel shows signs of uneven wear. I suspect that touching the kerb at kinsale roundabout while avoiding a g$%sh#%te in the wrong lane did some damage. So i thought I would do a 4 wheel alignment and rotate the tyres at the same time. Called a few local garages and got two types of reply - can do without asking for the car type and can't do it when asked. Seems that laser alignment systems have database till 2019 with egolf being the only car on the system. Im affaraid that people who said they will do np will find that the car is not on thier system and will send me packing. So the options I was given - go to official VW dealer or get the tracking data from VW and go to independent who said he an do it with numbers. What are the chances VW will be willing to share the data? Forgot to call service department today but will try tomorrow. My guess that I won't see much change from €100 if I have to go official dealer route while I was promised €60 all in inthe independent garage. Maybe some one can find the tracking data, I couldnt find anything credible on Google.

Yea that sounds poor enough. Wonder what VW would offer against an ID Buzz 🤔

I bought a 1st with the first three free payments. It is not a lease, it is PCP.

And the value after three years is on the documents. Definitely not zero.

I have had mine done twice. They were wearing on the inside, much worse than your pics.

The first place told me they couldn't do it initially but done it a while later after they had received settings they could use manually on the machine instead of the database.

The second place done it straight away and the car is wearing perfectly since then. So I assume they had the correct option on the machine.

VW and one independent garage claim that the front camera have to be calibrated after the wheel alignment. That could cost €275 all in. Sound like a rip off to me.

Sounds like it. If correct then I wonder how the camera can work properly when the wheels are out of alignment.

Disappointing sales in January. 69 ID.3 as opposed to 258 ID.4. It’s hardly all down to supply chains? The ID.4 is outselling everything else only the TROC.

Could be lots of delayed ID.4 orders finally delivered.

I in 5 hatch back to suv. What the trend across all makes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,852 ✭✭✭eagerv

Yes disappointing sales for the month, but to be expected. VW don't appear to want to sell their lower profit models at the moment. Until they ramp up production when supply chains and production improves. Their commitments to manufacture their other brands I am sure is also taking a toll. Why pay 36K plus for an ID.3 when you can get an Ioniq 5 with same size battery for a grand or two more? And will probably be more efficient for anyone doing shorter winter journeys.

I thought by now that VW would be selling the ID.3 in large volumes, with a price of about 33K. And a smaller battery version for perhaps 28/29K. But they don't seem to want to and probably cannot yet.

    All IMO, and probably rubbish..😊

    Who’s buy the Toyotas?

who would pick a PANAMERA over a Taycan?

The thing is the ID.3 is a fantastic car. I just don’t get why it’s not selling in more numbers. I also don’t get the Toyota thing, mind although I heard second hand from a car dealer that they have lots of stock and not as badly affected by supply chain issues.

I can understand the Toyota thing. A good friend of mine was swayed by very good pricing and trade in on his diesel. And the hybrid is now quite a nice car, I like the shape of the Corolla Hatchback. And as he says, I am " dipping my toes" into the electric world. He well knows it's a petrol car, but it is auto and very smooth and economical.

Agree the ID.3 is a fantastic car, it's just that VW has lost the plot re pricing.

The low sales must be about the chip supply problems. People ordering today are being given delivery dates a year from now. In addition to affecting the delivery of cars, they also lose sales to those who can't or won't wait that long.

I don't in any way regret getting the ID.3. It has exceeded my (high) expectations and I wouldn't trade it for a Model 3.

Same, its the best car I've owned. Two people I know went to dealers with the intention of ordering an ID.3 (after trying mine) but the uncertainty around delivery dates put them off for the versions they were looking at.
