It has to happen to give better prices in the long-term. What you describe is pretty much 5 to 10 years behind fossil fuels.

Reinvestment and new production curtailed until the inevitable squeeze that leads to a new boom for producers.... Only farmers will draw the cycle out much longer

I agree with you partially but I think it is the EU who have dragged it out for wayyy to long to ensure social stability

I applaud Birdnuts for livening up the thread.

But this was the 21st as before

    20220121_151615.jpg

This is today. Wheeltracks are nearly gone. Green to the tip. Grass is growing.

    20220130_104847.jpg 20220130_104959.jpg 20220130_105239.jpg

Isn't it a fairly ridiculous statement then to post that farmers are just dumping it for the sake of it.

If I waited till march or end of march imagine how much grass growth I'd have lost. That's cows inside on more silage, more meal, more diesel, more plastic used. More slurry spread. More money spent.

    Ridiculous.

Yep....its the utter hypocrisy of the mealy mouthed snakes that would sicken you.

I'm OK with every man for himself in a way, at least you know where you stand but the corruption, misinformation, ignorance and agendas piss me off,at times it seems there's no fighting it with the amount of morons that spout it and how easily led large groups of people are now without any ability to do their own thinking and social media/media/clever manipulative advertising doing it for them (they nearly accept whatever they hear without any critique at all)......so much of it isn't based on objective fact and ignores elephants in the room while the truly rich get richer laughing at the rest of us squabbling over the left overs........much of whats happening isn't efficient to boot and probably won't help the environment or do much for individuals rights/freedoms.

I need to see the people at the conferences practice what they preach and I'm not talking dietary choices ..........Will they? Will they ****...

Birdnuts, this year it's different, every year is different, soil temps are way above average for January. Have a look at the facts

Yes..if we can differentiate our product in the marketplace, and not compete with ourselves for that space.

Wouldn't hold out much hope on either front.

We survive to date using the ryanair model flog the product, and keep the costs on the breadline.

in dairygold we have a visionless bunch of dopes on the board. the senior members are the worst. and they are now trying to compete with ornua including undercutting them in USA. by extension undercutting themselves .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 753 ✭✭✭farmertipp

we have lost the real business oriented boardmen who were focused on returning best prices to the farmer. we now have a few brainless management men on it who don't have the brains to challenge what management say. because they don't have the ability or the interest in doing so. and the next chairman is a choice between very bad and worse again.

The growth is def there …gr of 15 I’d say might of been there this week …not too hung up on wether yes or no but happy with decision to go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,678 ✭✭✭✭mahoney_j

Would proably refrain from what your calling those lads on that board but a change needs to occur on who and how they get elected to coop boards ….management have a lot of boards well moulded your there way of thinking and lack the ability or want to challenge it …too often there’s sub committee positions and chairman /vice chairman positions to be got and feathers won’t be ruffled if it means they miss out on that

there’s also a lack of people with interest in going for these positions on boards ….most suppliers don’t and couldn’t care less what goes on within a coop when milk price is good but will get vocal when it’s poor but that’s about it …that needs to change

The board are trying to get a better return for your milk by selling a premium product. If Ornua gave a better return to the producer rather than hoarding profits they wouldn't have been put in the position in the first place. If they did nothing you'd be complaining as well. We had an excellent CEO for the last number of years so whatever gripe you have with the board sounds more personal than business related

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 753 ✭✭✭farmertipp

absolutely not personal . you are obviously not close to the situation. you will learn soon . not ceo s fault if board is poor

on the better return for product that you mentioned. they didn't get a better return. they undercut ornua. how is that a better return? plus if you are looking for personal gripes you should take a look at dg one with ornua

Food inflation is directly related to energy inflation, which is directly related to high input intensive farming systems. Tis why pig and poultry is on its knees in terms of margins. There is no shortage of oil and gas out there, only stupid energy policies like what we have here. Also stupid is the significant number of farmers, including many of those targeting me in this thread who seem to be the biggest supporters of the "cheap food policy" that simply destroys margins and lead to massive waste of resources including food waste, pollution etc.

Threads are great for getting side tracked but this one is a belter ….from fertiliser …it’s price …availability ….to Stalin snd Russia of Years gone to current situation with Russia/Ukraine And now the dairy gold bord undercutting ornua 😀😀😀

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,912 ✭✭✭Birdnuts

Carefull who you are calling a liar pal - I simply made some comments about poor slurry management. Even Teagasc are acknowledging its an issue so reign in your own arrogance and stupidity please

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,912 ✭✭✭Birdnuts

Expert is a word you used, not me pal. The fact that you have resorted to mis quoting me shows the weakness of your own blather. Anyway I'd pay more heed on what awarding winning Dairy farmers in the industry for over 30 years say over some blowhard on the web......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 753 ✭✭✭farmertipp

I'm not your pal and your not mine. you be careful.

I think the problem is margins aren't high enough anymore for guys to invest in storage, that and the cost of storage. Lads are spreading like mad in general because if Feb march come wet, land will be hard to travel. Conditions are good atm but rain will follow. I have enough storage till mid late Jan so I have to go, I think most guys are In the same boat. I think it would have made more sense to concentrate more on storage than LESS
