National Final season has already begun, so time to start the thread!

Will be hosted in Turin, Italy after Maneskin's victory with 'Zitti e buoni'.

Semi-final 1: 10th May 2022

Nothing intelligent about this anyway! What a disappointment after some of their more recent, stellar efforts. Heard about some form of shenanigans behind the scenes too but don't really know the full story.

You'd also think countries would try and steer as far away as possible from rock entries after last year's winner. Because rightly or wrongly, they almost always get accused of trying to copy the previous winner.

Another notable development is that all countries will again be required to create a 'live on tape' backup performance in case they can't participate, or the worst happens and the contest can't go ahead as planned.

Estonia were the first to get NF season started on November 20th with the first of four quarter finals. One notable participant is 2018 finalist Elina Nechayeva returning with 'Remedy'. No idea how this stacks up against anything else at Eesti Laul but I think she'd be an interesting choice again for Estonia.

The seven Czech contenders have also been revealed with their NF to take place on December 16th.

Albania as usual will choose their entry after Christmas on December 29th. Odds on it being a wailing woman again? 😛

I think I like it, the opening reminds me slightly of Bronski Beat's 'Smalltown Boy'. Think there's similarities with other songs too but I just can't work out what right now. The vocal is quite weak, but I think this sounds like a qualifier.

I mean, it's a change from the usual wailing woman stuff, but I really can't see this having much broad appeal. A borderline qualifier perhaps, but not much beyond that.

Can vary from year to year, but they've announced it'll be January on the Late Late this year. So if it's not next Friday it'll be the 21st or 28th. Whoever it is we'll know it's probably someone connected to/handpicked by Louis Walsh anyway, so...

Rachel Goode's is not bad. We've sent much worse, i.e any of Lesley Roys.

EDIT: Just listened again, I actually like it. It's like a song you'd hear being played on a dancey radio station in a gym.

Thanks yerwanthere123! That's Rich is tops for me at the moment. I get your point about the chorus but I'm already repeating it in my head, so it works here. :) I can see the "rich" gimmick working. Of course RTE will ruin the staging with Celtic Tiger imagery. :P

I see she was on The Voice UK in 2020 and got all the judges to turn around. Tom Jones looks stunned. :P
