No, that's not what needs to happen at all.

    Thats victim blaming.

    Are posts disappearing?

because they want to be sure that the case sticks and the perpetrator does not get off on some lesser sentence as they missed something or made a mistake.

Yes. About 70% of posts on this thread have been deleted as people are ignoring the mod warnings. Heaps of infractions handed out aswell

    Ok, thanks

I am certainly not deliberately trying to go against rules, so if any my posts deleted, apologies.

One mine disappeared that was very innocuous. Nothing that I could see that breached any rules

The reason, as uncomfortable as it may feel it to protect us all. We are well aware how corrupt the Gardai, and police in various jurisdictions can be, and while some cases can be rather plain cut, the right to a fair trial by all is the only way to have a fair justice system, and hopefully protect the innocent against prosecttion for crimes they didn't commit

My argument is the sentences are too lenient. You could kill someone, and depending on circumstances be out in a few years. Malcolm McArthur that killed the nurse in the phoenix park on the other end of the scale got 30, which frankly he should never have seen daylight again in my view

A lot of anger and emotion about this case. Haven't been able to stop thinking about that girl- so evil, so wrong. To think of her parents getting a knock at the door with that news. I can't even begin to imagine.

I’m male, I run everyday and have run in that part of the world, I wish I had been running there yesterday to stop this unimaginably evil crime.

I often wondered why when running past other runners who are female why there is no eye contact or runners salute ( I always give a nod and a hello passing others) this is why- women have to assess for their own safety every step of the way. Can't wear headphones on their own to be on full alert of their surroundings, have to select time and location. That is so ****!

Don't know how I can be part of the solution but in future I'll cross the road, run a different direction if it makes one person feel more at ease.

    I feel sick.

What they actually said was "No stone will be left unturned in bringing the perpetrator of this crime to justice."

They still have a job to do here.

And yet it never comes up. You just get vague ideas about how we have to change men or something or how we need to change all culture of the world.

Instead of saying can we have mandatory sentences for violent crimes Please. Some of the sentences are way too low. Nothing tangible or effective is ever proposed.

There are always going to be some evil men out there. That's never going to change. We need to talk about how we address it rather then saying oh men stop killing us. Murder is already illegal.

Absolutely shocked at this heartbreaking story. My deepest condolences to Ashling's family, friends, colleagues and the children she taught. May she rest in peace.

At this point, we know almost nothing about the perpetrator. It's far too early to say which wider problem this is part of (no doubt it hasn't happened in a vacuum, but it'll all come out in time). A lot of opportunistic people online (maybe a bit too online), from right across the spectrum, seem to be using it to further wider agendas and validate their hobby-horses - mainly anti-men or anti-immigrant. Tasteless.

I was abit sickened alright earlier on listening to one of the female presenters on tv3 barely get a line out about the murder and straight away turn it into a “women struggle /fear how hard to be a woman and men should … etc etc “ bullshit and it was sickening … u could tell by the face of her she was just acting out the usual pc feminist bullshit without a care in the world about that poor girl or what happened … sad carry on … anyways don’t give the attention seekers the attention they crave … thoughts and prayers to the poor girl and her family

They have assigned 50 Gardai to the case despite having the suspect in custody. Have 50 Gardai being assigned to the case of the man gunned down and murdered outside his home in Ballyfermot during the week with the attacker(s) still at large?

Over 50 gardaí have been assigned to the investigation and personnel from national specialist units, including the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

This is a horrible despicable act by the psycho that did this and I can't imagine what her friends and family are going through.

I still feel so bad for that poor Mongolian woman who was stabbed to death in the IFSC, it didn't really get any media attention, no one knows her name or anything about her, even the Sarah Everheard murder in London got more attention.

I dont know much about this, but high level is the general concensus that his was just a normal girl living her life, no back stories and some psycho just went crazy and killed her for no reason whatsoever?

I remember when I was in my early 20s, I was waiting at a bus stop in Cork City centre and this sleazy guy came up to me and asked me did I want to come with him to Bishop Lucey park and he'd "f**k me there" - I was absolutely terrified. The guy went away pretty quick once I ignored him but I haven't forgotten it. This happened in broad daylight at the end of patrick street and there were people all around.

Also had an experience where myelf and my friends were walking along a street in town and a group of young boys (late teens) passed and one of them put his hand out and touched my private area - I actually was wondering had I imagined it, I was so shocked.

I understand that these are isolated incidents but whats happened to this poor young woman has made me think about them again. She was just going for a run, just like I had been in town shopping and was waiting for a bus.

    This thread is a disgrace.

I think all that anyone on this thread needs to say is that she was a beautiful girl who had her life taken needlessly, way to early. Also, that the Criminal Justice system needs to ensure that justice is served to the perpetrator. Leave all other discussion for generic threads somewhere and sometime else.
