It's supposed to be the total number of both filled and unfilled posts, bearing in mind that there might not be any vacancies at all. However, the right information isn't always given. For example, Pearse Museum (run by the OPW) in Ballyboden has 1 EO and no other staff. Now, I wouldn't expect there to be an Assistant Secretary or a Principal Officer, but only one Civil Servant seems a little strange.

I was the same. Just got word there looking for current employer ref but not yet assigned. I was told yesterday when I asked what the hold up was and they were saying it was taking a little longer to process the vetting their end. I'm in Dublin

Oh okay. Yes I am Dublin too. On Tuesday this week they asked me for my current employer’s reference and haven’t heard from them.

I am supposed to get placement in this week but don’t know what is going on? Did they ask you about your choice of department for work during the interview?

They asked me “if I would be selected then in which department I would like to work “

I hope next week we both can hear a good news 😊 fingers crossed 🤞.

    All the best 👍🏻

Hello .. I got assigned DOT today .. any idea about possible location in Dublin? How is this department? Not heard much about it in this forum 😅

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46 imagusaran

I've been working in DOT since the middle of this year and it's located in Merrion Square, has great transport links to the Dart/Train, Luas, Dublin Bus and Bus Eireann. It's a great place to work and everyone is so friendly and helpful. There are great development opportunities and supports too. There are certain times of the year where it's really busy and others when it's quiet. The vast majority of us are wfh, and if you are wfh also, you will need to go in on your first day to pick up your laptop and meet your line manager. You will also be assigned a buddy who may or may not be on your team but they're great as you can ask them questions you may have that you might not want to ask your line manger and should help you settle in. You can dm me here if you need any help with anything, best of luck!

    Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone here is waiting on Clerical Officer - Customs and Revenue for Dublin or have any updates?. I have received no word that this campaign is ending in the new year (is this unusual) . Im Currently post interview and waiting to be called for clearance stage in Batch 8. Does anyone know if all panels are ending in the new year.

    Thanks in advance :)

@cianpower89 The comp is closing Jan/Feb 2022. I emailed PAS last week they are not calling anymore from my counties. As you’re post interview and waiting on clearance, I would say you’ll get a position no bother

@Moomooland thanks for that info. Fingers crossed. Thats a shame about your counties, where abouts were you in the whole process ?

    @imagusaran thanks a lot 🙏it’s such a big relief to know !!

No problem!! Btw, there are two stages of vetting. One is the standard one and the other is enhanced vetting. HR in DOT should contact you about the enhanced one but it takes 4 to 6 weeks to be processed, mine was finished on the Friday of Week 3. It feels like such a long wait but hang in there! As I said, feel free to dm me if you need anything else at all and I'll be happy to help 😊

    Hi All,

Just being assigned to Legal Aid Board. Was just wondering if anyone else has been placed there what location? There's one local to me, so keeping fingers crossed its there, but I'd say it'll be city centre based. So just looking for a rough gauge on where is being mostly filled. Thank you 😊 location is Dublin

Just wanted to come on a wish everyone a happy Christmas! I started in Dep Justice in November and I really love it. I am based in Immigration/repatriation and the work is really interesting. I work from home two days one week and three days the following week on rotation. There seems to be lots of vacancies in the department so if you are offered one, I highly recommend working here 😊

    Hi,

I got assigned a position in the Revenue in Dublin in November but haven’t headed anything since. My girlfriend is due in January, I made sure to tell them in the interview and they said it’s fine.

Just wondering how it works with been off for 2 weeks possibly during training?

    Thanks

    Hi BSK,

it shouldn't be an issue. Just contact your HR dept and explain it to them.

Im due to go on maternity leave mid January and was told to contact my HR dept once placed but shouldn't be an issue.

Out of curiosity, could you also move from a position like a CO position in the Irish Prison Service (Dublin) or Immigration Controle Officer in Dublin Airport to another Civil service body, if you want to move closer to your home county? Once you meet the above criteria?

ICOs sign on for an initial contract of 5 years so you cannot move to a "normal" CO position within this period. You can be only be promoted out.

5 years? 😕 That's a long time! If you get placed on the open competition can you take up the new role and just leave?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,210 ✭✭✭cw67irl

Yeah its a commitment. The time and effort it takes to train someone up to a suitable standard is the reason behind it.

Is everyone placed from this panel that was due to be placed, before it closed? I got a conditional offer in Sept, clearance came through in late Nov, references asked/returned early Dec and nothing since. I hope they haven't forgotten about me. Don't really wanna Email them yet, so soon after the holidays.

Hi, I am currently undergoing reference checks and it came up that I have taken two weeks certified sick leave. PAS asked me for a comment on the absence as it is a significant number of days. Has anyone had a similar experience? I’m worried that they won’t offer me a position due to it 😅 TIA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46 ✭✭Saulgudman

    Hi Dark J,

I would definitely email them asking them for an update and ask them to confirm if they need anything further from you. its a fair request at this stage.

I got a phonecall in December and was given a start date for late Jan 2022 . Still waiting to hear from HR whether its office or WFH so hopefully will hear this week. like yourself I'm wondering have they forgot. I emailed previously and they said they would be in touch closer to the start date.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭DarkJ

    Thanks Saulgudman,

I'll send off an email on Monday. This really is an awkward stage when you don't know your start date and your employer knows you're leaving. Hope we both hear soon.

I'm not in the Civil Service so take this advice with a pinch of salt. I would just be honest about it. I clearly don't know your circumstances. Although I am thinking about it from the point of view that if you give wrong info and they found out, it would look worse. Not saying you're going to do that. I think once it doesn't prevent you from carrying out the duties, you should be grand.

I hope there will be someone along to provide better advice..

Im in the same boat. Got assigned Revenue in Dublin on November 5th and they’ll be in touch but haven’t had anything since.
