Snowing in Ticknock, not sticking but a good sign 😊

A different kind of snow blows through those parts, trust me.

    Currently 1.7c and a dewpoint of +0.2c.

Nothing in Cork city anyway, charts showed it just being north of the city but temps out are around 5c. One sleet shower half an hour ago or so

Snow sticking here on the high ground in Kilkenny.

Drier snow than 2 days ago, so its sticking on all surfaces much easier.

In a shadow of cloud still in Sligo. Drizzle continues though its 2c. Outskirts of town and Bundoran look like proper showers happening

Snowing here in Omagh and settling too

Had a snow shower earlier, which stuck on the grass and car. Now there is a hail shower. Hopefully when I open the curtains in the morning there will be a dusting of snow on the ground!

Thought when they said showers in the North and West that Sligo in the Northwest would be bullseye but only 0.5mm of rain since 3pm.

336m! Must be one of the highest houses in Ireland. I know in Wicklow 300-350m tends to be where houses peter out.

Snow earlier in Naas. Didn't last. Due to be milder next week. Think we can look to Spring at this stage, thankfully.

Markree, Sligo has recorded up to 7mm. If temperatures drop another 1C at that station it should see a good covering but morning.

A graupel shower has just laid down an icy carpet on the ground here just east of Castlebar. Had a few really slobbery sleet showers that pushed through earlier on.

Just had a quick check out at the back light (my favourite winter pastime since I was a child!) and now the first proper flakes are starting to fall. Not heavy but promising.

    Edit 23.58pm

Has stopped now but looking at the radar there are further beefy looking showers coming in from the Atlantic. Will see what the morning brings.

The Meteorological Spring in Ireland and the rest of the EU does not begin until 01 March... Plenty can happen before then....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,520 ✭✭✭pauldry

There's a shadow over Sligo I've figured. The showers are falling around Nephin then moving onto the mountains around Beltra and dying then around Grange the other side of Ben Bulben they pick up again.

Hence a dryish night in the town. We'd need wind to switch to the Northwest. Same happened last Winter. Westport and Castlebar had plenty of snow but it missed Sligo.

A bit of hail now though may start something.

And plenty does, infact getting wintry weather before Christmas is as likely as getting it after Easter.

6th of January isn't when you begin to look towards spring, our climate has thought us in recent years that that's when you start looking towards winter. FEB/MAR deliver much more than any other month.
