Treatment for Covid

A sad reflection of the attention given to treatments.

If you can persuade your doctor to give you a script for fluvoxamine (100 mg twice daily for 10 days) then that's worth a shot

It's an SSRI medication that has been around since the 1980's, safe and well understood, normally used for OCD and depression.

But good luck getting a doctor in Ireland to prescribe it for Covid I would say.

it's as effective in trials as the latest results from Merck's 700$  molnupiravir and a 10 day course would cost 10$

fluvoxamine has been taken by many millions of people over 3 decades of use and as an SSRI that would be long-term ongoing use - so a once-off 10-day course is even safer.

it's considered very safe.

now Pfizer's Paxlovid is more effective but that's not even available yet and that will be also very expensive.

that's the exact same trial ("Together Trial") who already discovered the efficacious results on fluvoxamine !!!

that same "Together Trial" also found Ivermectin to be useless (no surprise there)

yes but SSRI's are a long-term treatment.

as a once-off course it's not going to have a long-term effect.

it's also as said been around for over 30 years and many millions have used it - it's a known safe drug.

but I already said that you won't get an Irish doctor to prescribe in any case as they are more concerned with the system, rather than patients.

yes I agree with you - that is the most likely outcome.

The "Together Trial" was specifically looking at repurposed medicines and thankfully added some recent respected and credible evidence for the fact that Ivermectin is not effective (at all)

But they have uncovered statistically significant findings in favour of fluvoxamine that are as good as what Merck's Molnupiravir achieved

Both Pfizer and Merck have committed to allow generic drug companies to produce and sell Paxlovid and Molnupiravir cheaply in "poor-country" markets with the proviso that basically "rich-country" markets will pay the $500 to $700 full-price

Something cheap like Fluvoxamine could and probably should have a place in such "rich-country" markets but as you said, will most likely be (deliberately) ignored
