Where can 40-49 realistically get Booster now ?

Our GP is not doing that age group. The Pharmacies I have phoned locally are either saying that they are booked out until January or have no more supplies until January.

The MVCs near us (our own County and neighbouring Counties) are all saying Age 50+ for Walk-in

Yes, but the info for Walk-in says over 50 incl for tomorrow onwards - maybe it needs to be updated ?

They only announced it this morning, the website doesn’t move that fast (or fast al all, IMO).

The majority of over 50’s are likely still to get their booster jab, so there will be some demand in the coming week.

Its strange how we are all told to keep our distance yet walk in centres seem to be the only realistic choice for the majority eligible, wary of going there but no choice really.

Will they be increasing capacity? Pointless if not.

Is there any plan within EU to give Boosters to Age 12-15 ? After 6 months or so.

Or is it unnecessary even with Omicron ?

As far as I can make out only Israel is doing it now.

"Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly announced the acceleration of the vaccination campaign following an announcement by Government of new restrictions, which will see bars, restaurants and indoor events close at 8pm starting on Monday."

How is bringing forward the 40-49s an acceleration? Or are they actually doing something to increase the vaccination rate?

Sounds like spin to me. "We have to be seen to do something" etc.

You will probably find most Pharmacies booked out till January. Try a Walk-ins to receive this side of Xmas.

The only way I can see them increasing the capacity quickly is to do away with the appointments at the centres and make it 100% walk in based.

Two reasons why it is unlikely to happen

    • it would require admitting the booking system isn’t working and too many missed appointments.
    • imagine the free for all at each centre with possibly thousands turning up early each morning in the hope of gettin

Or do away with the walk-ins and make it 100% appointment? If the rate of no-shows is predictable then they can take account of that, or fix the problems causing the no-shows (which is partly due to the walkins).

I suspect a lot of people don't know you can cancel the appointment through the text system now. Maybe publicising that a bit more would help.

I would prefer 100% appointments as it make it a more controllable process.

Fixing the appointment system would require the main system to interact with the doctors/gp system and also allow for cancellations to be updated in real time. Would probably need a feasibility study, followed by a trial phase etc. before we see an upgrade.

Path of least resistance would be all walk-ins to ensure 100% capacity used daily.

Shame we had no lead in time to have this ready to go when we needed it .... 🙄

Is it the Moderna vaccine that's being used for booster shot in all the MVCs at the moment?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,524 ✭✭✭chicorytip

I think it's Pfizer. Moderna is in short supply at present.

The HSE had said it would be mostly Moderna this month (over 30s) as they have a big stock about to expire.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 266 ✭✭Will23

I’m guessing if waiting for an appointment text for the 40-49 from the HSE, I’ll be waiting some time?! Would much prefer an appointment than a free for all at a walk-in.

Pharmacies with no vaccine supply - that would be a bigger issue and would slow things down.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

I heard from a number of people in their fifties that the best time to go to walk-in centre is towards the evening. Everyone seems to have the same idea to turn up first thing in the morning to beat the rush. But I’ve heard reports of no queues at all later in the day.

I rang my GPs office last Monday to ask for a booster date they rang me Wednesday to say I'm getting mine Wed's coming the 23rd,my girlfriend and her brother who are in their 40s just got theirs in Citywest after 3 hours. You should ring your GP tomorrow first thing.

My girlfriend and her brother just got Moderna in Citywest, BTW why isn't Aviva Stadium being used does anyone know?

I’m 60, I pressed my pharmacy gently by email after hearing they offered it to someone younger and with zero health issues. They immediately phoned me and told me to come in next day, when I got it. That was during the week. No significant side effects.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,117 ✭✭✭Technocentral

BTW her brother had to wait longer, they couldn't find him on system but IT sorted it eventually.

Finished work at 06:45 this morning in Clonee and heaed down to Simonstown in Navan for a walk in booster.

Got there at 07:15 (opened at 08:30) and was a complete and utter shiit show, half car park full, queues all down drive to get in, 500m queue on road outside, got in the queue, asked a guy have they an estimate for how long, about 90mins from when they open, it was freezing and i'm back in tonight so i left

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,359 ✭✭✭JimmyVik

Its a total mess. So much so that I was really, really close to not bothering with the booster.

My last attempt i was going to make was yesterday. Went to the walkin in Swords yesterday and was jabbed within 30 minutes of parking. They were giving Moderna, but I said I would prefer pfizer as I would prefer to have just the one type of vaccine for now in me as my friend (age 39 and fit as a fiddle had heart issues a couple of days after the vaccine) ended up in hospital for 3 days after his first jab - he since had his second jab with no issues. They said fine and put me in the queue for the pfizer booster.

Did you actually get Pfizer there or you're waiting for appointment?

Did you ask for the Pfizer at the desk or the booth? That's interesting that they gave you the option. I would also prefer just one vaccinr type after originally getting 2 Pfizers.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

They just sent me to a different booth and gave it to me there and then. All tyhe kiosks when you check in have a sign saying "Moderna(Spikevax)". One of the questions is "Are you happy to take moderna today". I answered no. If its moderna id rather not be vaxed. Then she sent me down to a different booth at the back where i said the same thing. They asked me a few questions. And from there to the injection booth beside it where they did pfizer.
