I'm curious - what does it matter if the teachers think Covid is a hoax though if you yourself are anti mask?

It would bother me if I had a child and I wanted them masked, yet their teacher was in Covid denial. And for what it's worth, I agree that it is shameless. But it seems strange to me that you might be 'anti mask' and also 'anti teachers being anti mask' at the same time.

But maybe I'm missing something or I have understood your point incorrectly.

Or maybe you are one of those rare kinds who actually considers the point of view of others and you are thinking that it is incredibly selfish and unprofessional for a teacher to impose their views on an entire room full of other people's children, in which case I fully agree with you

Trying what? How exactly do you respond to people who look past the inherent disgrace of what we are doing to children and jump to "Well actually it isn't about newborns". FFS.

I shouldn't be surprised. For 18 months people here ignore the insanity of what is allowed to happen and are far more concerned about whether people are using word "lockdown" correctly or not. Just a very broken society.

Wasn't I saying this a year ago ( only because I read it and it's obvious)

The politics of getting in first with the vaccine would come back to bite us

The hoax thing is a bit mad alright. While I t think masks are way overstated in general and mandating them in primary school is a new low I'd be slightly worried if someone who thinks covid is a made up thing teaches my kids.

The vaccines and their application is definitely experimental IMO. Which is not me saying its bad or dangerous. But the use of that technology in the field on such a scale is definitely unprecedented and we're finding out now bit by bit what they do and what they dont do and how long they last or not and what side-effects they have on what group etcpp. Surely that meets the definition of 'experimental', no?

It may be language used by 'anti-vaxxers' (dont really like that word) and it has maybe a bad connotation with people because of that but its not really false I think.

There is such a thing as getting carried away with oneself.

When we start making sh1t up, we are getting carried away with ourselves.

The original poster who said that the video was about masking newborns either made it up on purpose or they are so obsessed with being outraged that they don't even know what they are at anymore.

There are enough actual fcuked up things going on at the moment that people shouldn't feel that they need to outdo the madness by making up more madness

There are two sides to this argument and the folks on the extreme ends of both need to get a grip

AGAIN IT WAS A DOLL. What was said was:

Not saying it still isn't weird, but it is absolutely not about masking newborns

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,923 ✭✭✭Bananaleaf

Whether they think Covid is made up or not should be irrelevant to how they teach your kids. You shouldn't know about it because they should keep it out of the classroom.

The classroom is simply a room they step into to deliver a curriculum to other people's kids. It's not a space for them to exercise their views

Its good to see that some people have their priorities all sorted out.

    In primary school yes. 100%

But in secondary for example in history or so it would be very difficult for teachers to leave their own views completely out of it I would think. Not necessarily about covid but I mean generally speaking.

Has no one thought that maybe it could be dangerous to teach kids that babies should have a sock covering their mouth and nose? Hopefully none of them are left unattended with an actual infant!

I totally can be done in secondary - I do it every day. Always give both sides to any argument. I may be giving my own view, but I never present it as such and I always follow it up with the opposing view.

If I am asked which side I am on, I would say - if we are talking about something historical - but in relation to Covid I wouldn't. I 100% respect the views of every parent of every student I teach and I wouldn't want to say anything that would meddle with that. That is just basic professionalism in my opinion.

Teachers are always saying that we are their teachers and not their parents, so we should really know our place on this one.

Lets answer in the style of the thread. Okay here goes.... I'd seriously question any history teacher teaching any child that the Holocaust was a hoax made up by the allies and that the Final Solution was aimed only at deporting Jews and did not include their extermination. I'd be willing to bet such a teacher would not be allowed to teach again.

I'm anti mask? I don't believe they should be mandated upon primary school children, not when there's other infection prevention measures that can be used (contact tracing and antigen testing etc...) I believe they should be recommended in primary schools if children want to wear a mask or not. That does not make me an anti masker. I was wearing masks in shops well before they were mandated here.

I'm not anti teacher, I'm simply pointing out if teachers have a concern about mandated masks, they should not team up with other teacher who believe covid is a hoax and vaccines are experimental. Their voice will be lost among antivaxers and covid deniers.

Fair enough. Whatever you want to call it though, the few restrictions are restricting some people's lives a hell of a lot.

Once a “friendly” government contract is landed there’ll be a lot of radio space bought to educate us. 😁

They are not being gagged and they will continue to do their job, which is providing advice to government. It's also not the leaking of things, it's their constant media commentary and opinions about what should or should not be happening. That was never meant to be part of their job and they really should have faded into the background on October 22.

But you are anti vax if you go against the narrative. You don’t believe in masking schoolchildren then your anti vax/COVID denier.

Thats the problem, raise any issue no matter how small and you get lumped in anyway by the cult of Covid followers. Your right in what you say but they’re going to be teamed up and lumped in anyway, there’s zero nuance when it comes to COVID. Either fully comply with the cult of COVID followers or you’re one of the others.

Basically question anything and your anti vax, right wing COVID denier loon. Meanwhile ye have the un vaccinated called rapists and everyone else their victims along with recommendations of not allowing the kids of un vaccinated be educated being the norm.

Country’s gone off the edge really.

Those teachers should be sacked and possibly imprisoned

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,363 ✭✭✭prunudo

Sure the article bunches them as anti mask from the off. All about labels and division. Just because some teachers don't want masks on children doesn't mean they are against masks in other settings. Its a dangerous game but one that has been predominant throughout the pandemic and a lot of people can't see the harm it is doing.

As for the doll segment on Ireland am, it should never have been allowed on tv. Its normalising mask wearing in children and babies, whether that was the intended aim or not. Children shouldn't be shown as a play thing how to cover their mouths or insert items up their noses end of.

It is shocking how many people here are completely incapable of understanding that video.

It actually explains quite a lot about where their other 'opinions' are coming from
