New? We're over a year and a half into this, are we not? How is this basic messaging new?

Will they get around to doing up a few posters to remind people to open windows as well? Or will we wait a few more years for that one to come along?

Honestly, they probably do need to be reminded. There are far too many idiots out there who don't understand that the nose needs to be covered too.

Probably wait a few more years. The Anti-mask and Anti-vax crowd don't seem to be in a rush to end this.

The mask poster was probably the best of the bunch, even though I would have preferred 'Don't be a knob, cover your gob' or 'what's with the grin, cover your chin'....

Anyway, here are the other 3 of the suite.

Comms has been a total failure. Regarding ventilation 'open windows' is at the bottom of the list on the thumb print looking poster. Probably drive the conspriacy T's crazy...

The big V is unspoken about a lot as there is an irrational fear within the upper echlons of the HSE that it would distract people from the core principles of droplet spread, which is handwashing, keeping your hands away from your face and distance and therefore increase risk.

I cannot understand for the life of me why we relied on vaccines so much. It took 30 years to eradicate polio with a vaccine, covid wasn't ever going anywhere. And this week they get around to recommending masks in crowded outdoor areas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,446 ✭✭✭Seanergy

As a general rule of thumb, vaccines were seen as the only way out by the those who supported droplet theory with distance and hand washing as the only NPIs to contain and or spread out infections.

In 2007 Micheál Martin's Pandemic Influenza Expert Group published a dumbed down version of lessons from past pandemics by the WHO from the three big pandemics of the past century.

Vaccines were sold incorrectly as the entire game ball to many.

I agree with a 'non-confront' policy but would be happier if dublin bus added a 'please keep windows open for ventilation' to their rolling announcements. Twice this week I went on a nearly empty topdeck bus and all windows closed. I opened up 3-4 random windows and then sat down beside the front openwindow. Journey one a man gets on and he could sit anwaywhere on the top deck, he chose to sit beside the window and then closes it. Journey two a lady gets up from a few rows away and closes the window and then goes back to her original seat seat. They both triggered an early morning inner rage but I understand the 'nonconfront' policy. I dont except bus drivers to confront people wearing masks undertheirnoses on their chins... but I would appreicate if they encouraged commuters to keep windows open as many pay no heed to yellow stickers

The message still needs to be hammered home. Anouncements. Adds. Leaflets etc.

I have to deal with the public sometimes in work. We are behind a plastic screen with an area cut out to exchange cash. I'd say about 20 percent of people will actually bend down and stick their head into it. Another 10 percent will pull down their masks as they do it to communicate. About 50 percent or so of kids will stick their heads in. Only a few parents will stop them.

We just have a sizeable minority of idiots here unfortunately. Absolute zero enforcement of the law from the guards doesnt help much either.

There is zero enforcement of so many other laws, in other countries the clueless would be wised up fast and the belligerent dealt with forcefully and swiftly. Its not just masks... all kinds of anti social behaviour which sees public areas abandond by law enforcement.

Interesting to look at other countries to see how measures that were said to have been temporary can end up being permanent. Masks in this case.

In the Philippines President Duterte said the other day that mask wearing would be forever: https://www.google.com/amp/s/mb.com.ph/2021/11/15/duterte-face-shields-are-out-but-face-masks-are-forever/%3famp

In Israel Gabriel Barbash, a professor for epidemiology at the Weizmann Institute of Science and one of Israel's top health experts, said the following: "I think life is going back to normal, but to a new normal. We are not going to give up masks. They are going to be required in any place that is a closed space."

In the US one reads articles such as this one: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nationalreview.com/corner/the-pivot-to-forever-masking-is-starting-lets-kill-it-with-fire/amp/

I'm sure they'll be "temporary" when they're introduced. Just like 'two weeks to flatten the curve' almost two years ago.

What kind of a country is this at all. I can't believe this is happening. It's like a never-ending nightmare. Those things on small children.

The National Public Health Emergency Team has recommended the wearing of masks for primary school children from third class upwards. The move will be reviewed in mid-February.

It has recommended that children aged nine and over wear masks on public transport, as well as in retail and other public settings where the rule currently applies for those aged 13 and over.

It will be interesting to see how temporary mask wearing for primary school children will be. I predict it won't be temporary.

Jesus will you stop banging on about "two more weeks". I don't think anybody thought we'd still be in this mess 2 years later. Things haven't gone well despite the attempts to get this under control. The vaccines have proved to be disappointing and Delta came along. This is the equivalent of somebody complaining that home taping is killing music in 2021.

I'm guessing the kids will be allowed to take the masks off for eating, drinking and PE etc.

So an utterly useless action. Great COVID theatre though.
