Healthcare worker shortage as a result of covid ?!

A random thought just popped into my head about covid that is pretty worrying..

careers in health, such as doctor, nurse, physiotherapist, psychologist, carer most of which have been pretty popular or desirable careers are going forward seem likely to have lost a shed load of appeal.....

imagine as all or most of the positions above will spend time working in cramped A&E’s ...to start with, busy wards afterwards... the risk vaccinated or otherwise would be significant....

will we start as I believe to see a decline of people whom will want to see themselves work in a medical field ? In 5-10 years will there be shortages of applicants as well as people working in health who will just leave.. ? Retire early or seek other avenues of employment ?

that could leave us as a society...donald ducked... working in healthcare might become as appealing as shïtting a grapefruit..

vaccinated or not there would be significant risks.. and if we have significant shortfalls in healthcare staff !

That is a non issue as it was already addressed before covid started. I guess we will see just a few more of foreign nationals working in those fields than before.

Doubt it, that's not how young people's brains work. When you're young and full of energy the chaos and drama is, if anything, more appealing. Certainly the sense that these jobs are critical to society makes them more appealing.

The issue is with retention of older workers, of which there are loads.

chaos and drama is one thing but a tangible risk to health on a daily basis ? Is the reward going to match the risk ?

retention of older workers I can see being a challenge... but the younger ones... even if we have non national people augmenting numbers it still might be challenging as they will be incentivized by their own country’s health authorities you’d imagine to stay....could be if you sign up for a medical degree in X country following qualifying you have to give X years back.

Good to see but the psychological makeup of the English to ourselves is somewhat different...my neighbor was about to study nursing but she’s headed for a civil service office gig, department of social welfare or social protection...
