Well that was rather wonderful. The only downside I could see was that some of the well capped subs didn't exactly cover themselves in glory.

Anywhere showing the game in full again, lads. Missed it due to work :(

It’s very difficult to come into a won game and make yourself standout. The tempo is too high and players tend to try force themselves into it. I think they mostly went well enough.

Would be starting for me, class performance today. Pretty sure he will start.

Thought he had a good game and contributed to it flowing along. Nit pick if you want but thought he was good and a welcome addition.

Yes a ref needs to be fair but the good ones also manage to keep a game flowing without being over picky and making quick decisions.

The yellow card was proportionate to the number of infringements made by the Japanese team especially in that period of play before half time. Think he got it about right.

Im pretty sure you know what I'm talking about, stoping trying to be so politically correct just as some way of making a come back, at least it makes you feel clever I presume.

I never watched Gladiator. I was too busy watching the inaugural Six Nations campaign ☺️

Oh I agree but the number of penalties given away was far too high. POM gave 2 away immediately. Carbery is devoid of confidence and it showed.

I thought Henderson gave a brilliant cameo when he came on. That's the difference.

Extremely pleased with that, and further progress from the England game. Japan didn’t show up but you can only play what you’re up against and we executed brilliantly.

The back 3 as a unit were class. Credit to Lowe; he wasn’t asked much defensively, but he’s shown how huge an asset he could be in attack. We seemed to use him as a crash option to exit our 22 as well, which worked brilliantly.

Conway was excellent too, he marry’s defensive solidity and the excellence under the high ball with massive work rate and finishing in attack.

And Keenan just keeps improving. Superb pass for Conway’s try.

Conan and Aki the other standouts to me, both were excellent. Conan with a superb all round performance and Aki continuing to be tasked with more passing that we saw from him vs England. (Nit-picking, there was a grubber on once or twice, but that’s not his strength).

A word for the much maligned Mike Catt as well. He must be pleased with that.

As was I, misery-merchants be damned!

Keenan had three moments that need working on.

When sexton gave away a penalty for not releasing keenans attempt at a clear out was terrible, the ball that was allows to bounce in midfield early in the game should have been into his hands and he fell off a tackle badly when japan attacked down the right hand side in the secondnhalf.

All things that can be worked on and get him on his way to putting in a complete performance.

The atmosphere at the game was abysmal, great to see families, wives, girlfriends, and Ulster fans turn up but the lack of annoying about being “quiet for the kicks” meant a constant chatter in the crowd. Not something we want to see and it’s very possible Italy, and Scotland, 6N games could go the same way.

As for the game, itself, it was great to see us beating them at their own game. The backs looked superb, Keenan’s fielding and Conway’s finishing were great. Was great to see Conan get PotM because in a game like that the forwards can get ignored. No one notices the work at the breakdown when the ball is sent out wide so quickly.

As aloooof said, Mike Catt should be happy. When he was coaching with Italy they led everyone with offloads during a game. Up until now it’s seemed the lads were still playing Joe Schmidt’s more “controlled” game. At the start of Farrell’s tenure tou’d see guys trying to offload only to send it behind the player running on. Things are clicking now.

Didn't like seeing some Munster fans, pointedly, remaining in their seats for Sexton’s try and when he left the pitch. Very unnecessary. He was outstanding.

After that performance I’m looking forward to a proper atmosphere next week and another great performance.

Japan's work rate in defence in the opening 20 was amazing. Kept thinking we'd broken them down only for another player to work into position to make a tackle. Totally spent them, but the narrative that they didn't show up doesn't ring entirely true to me - they got extremely outplayed early on and then lost their shape.

Good performances across the board - Conway definitely a highlight and showed why he was selected.

For all the criticism Sexton gets, he's clearly extremely popular within the playing squad, his remarks at full time were very thoughtful. One of the absolute greats, maybe our greatest ever player.

It’s not possible to meet them in a WC QF in 2023. 👍

Probably just as well if 2019 was anything to go by. And before you say it, I know that wasn’t a QF.

Enjoyed it plenty, it was carnival stuff.

But i also enjoy seeing the other side of the game, the small details that go into making a successful player and a successful side.

There is a clearer adoption of leinsters approach in the Irish setup which is all underpinnned on fast athletic workrate that will eventually create openings. Its about completley outworking your opponents for 80 minutes.

Todays win was well and good, and hopefully a sign of something more to come but its like mayo putting one over Tyrone next February in the league, be nice to get the win but they didnt do it when it really mattered.

Some people just seem utterly incapable of being happy. Poor divils. Today was overwhelmingly positive. There were a few issues but for a first game in 7 months (which effectively this was) then it’s one to be happy with.

Great performance today, hard to find a single player who didn't have a good day. Japan were absolute muck which must be taken into account, but you can only beat what's in front of you and all that.

Thought Lowe had a very good game. Didn't answer any of the questions about him, because they were never asked at any point, but what he did he did very well. Conway had a stormer.

The atmosphere is abysmal at pretty much every single match. Today was no different. The game was over after 20 minutes which didn't help things.

“2019 / when it mattered” being rolled out. Imagine how long it must take them to get over an ex?

Ah now, I go to pretty much every home Ireland game. This one was a level below Italy and Scotland games.

The, very, early kick off didn’t help but the level of noise during the kicking was excessive. I can guarantee you that next week this will not be the case and you won’t see half as many “redeemable” cups under the chairs.
