Thanksgiving in ireland

No. Of course it's an enjoyable day, but that doesn't mean other countries should adopt it.

I'm currently living and working in the US. If anything, US companies should adopt European levels of annual leave. That would be much more beneficial to families here rather than a holiday that has become more important for the day that comes immediately after it rather than the day itself.

My wife's brother in law has to work it in a Tennessee ball-bearing factory, don't think that's an emergency service. He can take it off unpaid if there's enough staff.

Well I'm only going on his example, but he certainly doesn't get paid for the Friday.

I'd doubt there's ANY unionisation where he works, I'd say they would burn you as a Communist :pac:

Thanksgiving isn't a thing in Ireland and I can't see it becoming a thing.

However I'd have preferred the new bank Holiday to be the last Friday in November.

I’d celebrate the Feast day of Saint Jehovah of Islamabad if it got me an extra paid day off work

It's of no benefit to the economy.

Driving tourism in February makes sense. In Summer, it's a given.

2nd or 3rd Sunday in September sounds good. All ireland day ?

It's a tough one as a lot of dates fall around December (The Treaty 1921, Irish Free State, 1922, Irish Constitution 1937). Whilst the Easter Rising would be too close to Easter/Paddy's Day.

Maybe end of War of Independence in July.

I'd rather see a holiday in relation to the state and its history rather than a bloody saint from over 1000 years ago that is irrelevant today.

I do find it unusual that Ireland as a country that struggled so long for its independence has no official holiday to commemorate any aspect of it.

Maybe go with July 12th, keep the nordies happy.😀
