Bought Phone In Local Shop,Am I in trouble?

I was recently looking to buy a new phone.Nothing too fancy,was upgrading from a Samsung A5 to A12,low end phones.

My local Vodafone wouldn't sell me the phone without signing a contract ( interesting business model as I stood there with my card out trying to give them money) I walked out the door 10 metres to the next phone shop who had the phone I wanted. There are about 4 of these shops in my town,all foreign run and provide a great service for repairs,accessories,cheap phones etc.These shops are the most helpful I find over Vodafone but I never thought of actually buying a phone there before.

Anyway,the phone is not great,really slow,slower than my 4 year old A5 it was replacing.Im just wondering is it possible the phone isn't of the same quality as one bought in the bigger vendors? Is this a thing? I'm clueless with this sort of stuff.

you posted in the corona virus section. Vodafone dont generally sell sim free phones and by buying a contract you are paying for the price of the phone over the course of the contract, rather than the one off payment for sim free (which is usually higher).

If you bought a clone or not only a person looking at the phone can tell.

Yes,didn't make sense to change my current rolling contract so I just wanted the phone.Funnily enough since the op I was in the Vodafone shop in the next town over and they were willing to sell it without contract.I would have went with that if I'd known

The A12 is an awful low end phone. Even to this day, an a5 is superior.

With regards to phones you're often better off paying that bit extra for quality. The cheaper phones lag and stutter like crazy. After a few weeks you're head will be melted.

Any if those phone shops that aren't main retailers usually sell grey market import phones. Exact same phone and quality that Vodafone would sell but usually imported from Romania, UAE etc.

Thanks for the info,this is what I was afraid of.Its already stuttering and lagging,I might have to chalk it down to a live and learn situation

Your old phone had a CPU that wasn't underpowered for the software that it was running at that time.

These days the software is more demanding and you need a CPU that matches the demand of current software and websites.

Your old phone was a security risk. You should have ditched a long time ago.

You really have to get on to forums and reviews sites when buying stuff these days. It too easy to get caught out.
