There's no buzz in using the internet when I can use my own radio and antenna and end up contacting someone anywhere, just using the ionosphere to bounce the signal off + not knowing who you're going to end up talking to or what you're going to be talking about. 😀

Hearing a human is much more, eah, Human, than just reading text all the time.

OH has taken the car on his commute today. Travel assist and all those systems started going wonky on him. He phoned me to ask if anything happened yesterday.

I reckon thats the 2.3 update starting... glad it didnt happen yesterday. would be a pita on the drive to dublin.

    Dear boards.ie

Your new forum is a turd. Randomly rotating photos is annoying.

Look great Phil! have you a link to the site where you got them ? I was wondering whether to get something like this or the plastic film.

And I agree, the new site is annoying, I don't like it.

I got them on AliExpress. Think they might be on Amazon too.

Drove around 500 Kms since Tuesday evening, set off with 100% charge from the dealer, plugged in work 3 pin plug using granny lead and no charging at home Wednesday and Yesterday, 37% left now, will plug in tonight for around 4 hrs for roughly 28 Kwh. Have it set to 70% just in case, should be plenty for the weekend.

I thought I'd get to the 22 Kw charge point on the other site today to suck as much as I could for the weekend but had too much work where I was. Still, if I only have to charge maybe twice a week it's going to reduce the bills a fair chunk if I can get to charge at the 11 Kw once a week at least.

Love the range of the tour 5. Not sure what I'd get from a full charge yet but currently at around 18.5 Khh/100 Km would be 5.40 Km/Kwh so roughly 420 Kms to empty, I wasn't driving it too easy either, love D mode for gliding along just coasting, it's a very welcome relief from the constant 1 pedal driving in the i3 which was really tiring after a while because you find your foot having to be constantly on the throttle. Fine for town but not so good on the open road.

I could believe I would hit 500 Kms in the Summer in the conditions that allowed me get 220 Kms in the i3. 94Ah

I'm just shocked we've converted the Mad lad away from the Rex, not even the Tesla lads can claim that honour 😁

Glad to hear you're enjoying the car, remember to set the charge limiter in the car and the timer in the charger and it'll be autopilot from there

Are the chargers in your work free? Can't really pass up free fuel if there's an opportunity

I for one would be very interested in seeing the savings after a few months versus the i3. I remember you had to stop for fast charging a fair bit, or burn some petrol, so it'd be interesting to see how much of an impact to the wallet that was making

So glad you're enjoying it... this place would be exploding if you weren't liking it after all the waiting. Between you and DrPhilG, I think VW could just decide to close up shop if ye weren't happy. 🙈

Will be interested how you find it when you are doing your normal driving, not belting along the motorways. IIRC you could get very good mileage out of your Prius?

I am just back from 100km total today, almost all back roads at around 80kmh where possible, had a bit of fun and still managed 14kWh/100km.

Cheers, yes i3 owners can be proud that the Tesla folk didn't get me! :-)

Cheers will remember that with the charging.

No didn't fast charge that much in the i3 that was the Leaf, while I was prepared for the charging I wasn't prepared for the type of People I met around Naas but going from around 110 Km, new battery in the 2015 Leaf to around 170 Kms in the i3 to around 420 in the id.3 is really cool in just 7 years. If sticking to 100 Km/hr I would estimate 450 Kms should be do-a-ble. More in Summer.

I expect I won't need to fast charge for some time but I think VW are being very conservative when it comes to the charging curve, it's just not so good on such a large battery in 2021 almost 2022. I really do feel it could hold 125 Kw for much longer. But going back to the Leaf days , it would struggle to go over 35 Kw and less if it was cold, I remember People complaining on the ESB FB page about them "throttling" chargers and I thought it was funny because no matter how much I tried to explain that internal resistance increases due to cold it never sank in and there would be lots of angry posts which reminds me of how I really don't miss social media or facebook, this is about as social media as I get.

Yes, I could get 4.1 L/100 Km in the MK II prius Summer and around 4.6 Winter, that wasn't bad!

Same driving in the id3 tour/tour 5 would probably see 450 and more in Summer, probably nearer 500.

Not sure when I will know what I'll get per charge now as I will probably rarely run it down very low but would probably estimate via the Kwh/100 km figure. Be interesting to see how efficient it can be.

Id say you will see over 500 easily enough on non motorway driving, certainly in the warmer months. 400 is easy enough with the 58kWh.

Lol, 450km is my best so far in the Tour.

Mine is about 440 but we are seeing a lot of motorway. Nearly 5000 km up on it now.

Wow, suppose I'll have a fair chunk of Kms on it by tis time next year.

440 Kms that's good, yeah suspect 500 kms is achievable than, that's what, around 300 miles ? I remember our old 2000 Honda CRV could just about manage that.

Hi. I just got my ecars charging sorted. Does anyone here use We Charge. Is it worth setting up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,339 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

About the only useful thing with we charge is that you get an RFID card for use at Ionity chargers instead of fiddling with the app

Unless you need one of the plans then it isn't worth much

Thanks for that. Is there any other charging card / business worth signing up for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,614 ✭✭✭eagerv

I have easygo as well. Handy if doing a bit of shopping at Lidl (Free atm), Ikea, Decathlon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,357 ✭✭✭✭fits

I just have ecars and EasyGO apps installed. Haven’t charged in public yet. But there’s free charging at work so I might need to start availing of that.

You might try EasyGo if there is a Lidl with free chargers in your area. I ordered a fob (they say there is a €6 charge but mine came free) a few weeks ago and it arrived within 4 days. You can use any ESB charger (at a cost) in addition to EasyGo chargers (which admittedly are thin on the ground), but our local Lidl has two EasyGo chargers that are free, so whileI do the shopping I can get a 70 km top-up for free.

Actually, after checking, EasyGo has 850+ chargers nationwide vs ESB with 1350+, so thin on the ground might be a bit of an unfair description.
