I would have invested 12 minutes of my life in that, but when you're only about a minute in he says as a by-the-by that his house is also on a flood plain.

At which stage I said FFS, and left.

I'm sure others may wish to entertain this further. I don't.

The solution to the mica homes emergency. These homes can be built in a couple of days, and with only 3 people on site. The cost of a 3d construction printer is between $190k and $1 million depending on size. These homes are already being built in Europe. Here is a link to an article from last May in an Irish publication discussing hw this technology could solve Ireland's housing problems. https://extra.ie/2021/05/05/property/3d-printed-homes-housing-crisis

Brilliant. I totally agree. One of these should be built for every homeowner affected by mica until there existing house is fully reinstated. This will solve the problem of accommodation for the families when they have to leave their homes.

Is it a strange position to believe that these people should be given 100% redress while also believing that the other taxpayers of the country should not have to pay for it?

Show me the quarry owner in handcuffs getting his assets seized, and the quality control people associated with those materials being prosecuted and I will be happier, but the government appears happy to write a big cheque without opening the can of worms that is holding those responsible to account, presumably because it will highlight their own failings in this regard.

Maybe not one for every family but as not all homes will be repaired at the same time. These could be constructed and rotated by families who's homes are currently undergoing repair. When each family home is repaired the family leaving repairs, paints, deep clean etc for the next family. Then when the redress is complete the department will have a stock of housing.

Government doesn't seem to want them touched, willing to sacrifice McConalogues seat to protect them,

We're you asked if you wanted to bail out the banks or bail out some insurance companies. And please highlight some of the people's own failings you seem to know about.

Disgraceful if the taxpayer ends up paying for holiday homes and cheap bungalows.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,173 ✭✭✭RandomViewer

We'll be paying for their housing either way, once off rebuild or a lease to a vulture fund, take your pick

Cheap bungalows? Eh? They're only cheap currently because they're falling down. They weren't originally.

If the government peruse recourse against the villians here in the same way they did the bankers it will leave everyone off the hook.

Is there consensus on the answer to "100% of what" yet?

The amount required varies massively depending on the expectations, meaning the outcome moves between possible and highly unlikely.

Do the owners still pay back their mortgage for a house that will be bulldozed and rebuilt with tax payers money?

    What way does this work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,561 ✭✭✭✭muffler

You have asked this question, twice, in the thread in the politics forum and it was answered so Im unsure as to why you need to ask it for the third time here.

How? Average €200k still owed on most mica houses

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,037 ✭✭✭Penfailed

Yes. What do you mean, "What way does this work?" The house owner is paying a mortgage. The house is currently worthless. Whilst the house owner is out of the house when the remedial work is being carried out, they're still paying a mortgage. Once they move back in, they're still paying a mortgage. Where's the confusion?

That's the answer I needed thanks for explaining.

The answer I asked for wasn't explained.

    But thanks anyway.

That’s up to them to figure out. Move in with family. Cut back. Work more.

Congratulations. One of the most stupidest posts I have ever read on boards.

    Enough said.

I’m paying 3.5k every month in rent and mortgage. I make it work as it’s my life and my decision.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,131 ✭✭✭malinheader

And is the house your paying for crumbling around you and your soon to be left with no house but still a mortgage.

Listen no point continuing with this because it's not sinking in is it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,370 ✭✭✭TheAnalyst_

It’s not because I chose a house that’s been standing for a hundred years, had it inspected and appropriately insured.

My life. My choice. Not the states.

SO if 100% redress is given, will the same contractors, quarry owners and builders suppliers effectively get paid double to do the job they should have done properly the first time?. Hopefully any redress scheme will blacklist the cute hoors that made the money first time around

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,131 ✭✭✭malinheader

Appropriately insured. You haven't a clue about any of this issue have you. Go away and read up about the mica scandal and what issues the homeowners face. Your on here spouting off about something you didn't even bother to look into. Appropriately insured that statement shows how much you know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,037 ✭✭✭Penfailed

There you go. It's your decision. I didn't decide to buy a crumbling house. It was outside my control.

Meanwhile Cassidy carries on unhindered? BAM are getting paid more in extras for the NCH than this is going to cost, Foreign Aid budget for 3 years would cover it, African Dictators might have to settle for a G5,

It will take up to a decade to complete the scheme, actual yearly cost will be around 20% of HAP,

My builder has folded. There's not a hope that one single block will be used from that manufacturer. Builders suppliers? Probably. The house was done properly the first time, albeit with a defective product.
