My 2015 Cube Travel Pro RF was stolen yesterday around 21:30 from the bike stand in front of Aldi in Royal Canal Park (Ashtown).
It was locked but it looks like I must have left the key in the lock, because I can't find it on me.
The bike had two red Altura panniers at the back. It has a Chainglider chain protector installed, but otherwise everything was stock:
I've filled in the Garda on line form, waiting for them to call me back...
interesting outcome on this thread; the up to date story starts 5 posts from the end (as of me posting this; it's the first post in the thread from 2021)
Anyone know the owner...
My bike, a Canyon Ultimate CF SL 7.0 2019 was stolen from Brookfield Hall, Castletroy, Limerick, after the thieves broke into the apartment block.
Found the bike on donedeal but the guards have been told that it's already sold.
The donedeal link is as follows: https://www.donedeal.ie/bicycles-for-sale/canyon-brand-new-racing-bike/29285890
The picture of the bike is here:
Guards are treating it as a break and entry, but I know chances of getting it back are slim
Have you tried making contact yourself or through a family member to see if they get the same story as to it being sold?
Tried that and they were claiming that they knew nothing about the bike and wasn't their ad 🤷♂️
Just sent a message there now to see if it's still available.
Some illiterate sod wrote the add anyway, might be worth a drive around some our native holiday homes.
Might I suggest that the angle grinder be used to cut his man-bits off...
so the gards know who stole it and sold it and couldnt be arsed doing their jobs. The person who bought it can also be done for possesion of stolen goods who would obviously have known looking at that ad for €150 that it was stolen.
they 'know' who stole it in that they have a username from adverts and a reasonable belief that he no longer has the bike in his possession. there's not much they can do if they can't prove he stole it, i suspect.
Incidentally - how would you be able to say definitively the bike in the ad is yours - not questioning that it is, but what would be the unique identifier?
Their tag line is 'some of the used goods website have a reputation for selling stolen bikes'.
Tell it like it is, fair play.
When I saw the Canyon bike on DoneDeal, I guessed it was stolen before I saw the price because of the illiteracy of the seller.
Carrera Kraken identical to the above stolen outside Lifestyle in Blanchardstown yesterday along with black and blue Giant. Both locked but locks cut ...in case anyone sees bargains on Adverts etc.
Do you mean the green entrance given lifestyle is in the shopping centre.
If it's locked inside, I could see security cutting locks and moving them sharpish
Good news story
There is a big Lifestyle in the retail park where Smyth's and TK Maxx is. It was stolen from here.
Are they sold to bike shops?
Completely forgot about that one. Bike locking at the centre is wholly inadequate
Think my nephews bike is for sale on adverts.
What is the best way to approach this?
Offer to buy it then take it back. I did that with my fixie. Literally took it off the guy and told him to **** off.
was the theft reported to the gardai?
Geraint's F12 stolen, but he got it back apparently. Phew!
Mates bike popped up for sale on adverts after being nicked, he put an offer on it, but went to the Garda to get help and they ended up dragging it out for so long that the seller sold the bike.
If it was me I’d just put an offer on it, try and get them to meet in a public place, tell the Garda you’ve arranged a meeting and if they can attend, great, if not, strength in numbers.
Yeah, that's often the case, Garda take too long. And thieves know it, so they try and get it sold on as quick as possible.
Saw a bike being stolen just now on King’s Inns Street. The lad kicked the bike until the lock snapped. When I confronted him he said he lost the key. I got a few pictures. His face isn’t visible unfortunately.

some bikes recovered
Barracuda Blackfin - Kids Road Bike
Stolen from Newpark Comprehensive School, probably late on Tuesday the 8th of Feb 2022.
Same as the model in this pic, but with Raceblade Mudguards and an extra set of brake levers on the top bars.
If you see it around or on any of the usual sites give me a shout.
