It's Oz the Great and Powerful. It's Maleficent. It's Wonka.

Sigh. Hollywood in 2021. I'm actually surprised that Tom Holland is being courted. WB would be smart to cast a 'diverse' lead to get woke pre-publicity when in reality, they would be making a safe call and avoiding telling new, non-white stories.

And I still maintain Paddington 2 is one of the best films of the last 5 years. A legitimately fabulous movie.

It's a perfect movie with not a single bad moment.

Tom Holland will be awful in any movie but Spiderman

    It's Wonka public domain?

No, Roald Dahl is only dead 30 years. I assume they have an existing licensing arrangement with his estate or heirs or whoever owns it now because of the Tim Burton movie.

Wasn't there already a lot of prequel type stuff in the Tim Burton film?

    Wouldn't mind that actually.

Timothée Chalamet signs on to play Willy Wonka.

He could have been Depp's son in law as he dated Lily

    A good decent actor

I thought it was quite good and so did most people I know who've seen it. Personally I never liked the 70's version at all and much preferred the Burton version though I accept a lot of people like the first movie.

I wouldn't even call the Burton movie a remake though. It's way closer to the book than the Wilder one, it's really the only legit "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" movie. In fact Roald Dahl himself hated the 1971 movie.

It has 83% on RT, 91% on Google, and 6.6/10 on IMDB. So definitely not a mess.

However having said that I really don't have any appetite for a prequel. I'd love to see Charlie and The Great Glass Elevator.

Is that not being made by Netflix along with a new version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins and Olivia Colman have joined Timothée Chalamet in Wonka, Warner Bros.’ prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Paddington filmmaker Paul King is directing the movie, which begins principal photography Wednesday in London.

King has lined up a slew of Paddington or Paddington 2 vets in the cast, among them Tom Davis, Simon Farnaby and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith. Also on the roll call are Mathew Baynton, Jim Carter and Rich Fulcher.

I'm guessing this project remains unaffected by Netflix's acquisition of the Roald Dahl Story Company? Will it become a Netflix production, or are WB simply allowed to continue, given it predates Netflix's action.

I tend to reffer to them as reborquels (a soft-reboot-sequel-prequel).

Personally I just can't wait for the backstory on how Wonka got his top hat and the intricate meaning behind his use of a cane combined with a 'gritty retelling' of his origin and probably how he got his name.... *sigh*

I judge these things much more on the talent involved than anything else, and in fairness to him Paul King hasn't really put a foot wrong in either his writing or directing thus far - I daresay if he's doing this, it's because he has a good idea for it.

So, Will.i.am then? That could actually work...

*I quoted the wrong post, but don't know how to correct now.
