I would have thought it was a one-off limited series like Kiri or the Accident.

Phew. Was one I wanted to watch but the "Season 1" made me think they over-extended it.

Netflix Acquires Roald Dahl Story Company

Netflix has acquired the Roald Dahl Story Company for an undisclosed figure, giving it access to the full catalogue of works from the famed British author.

The deal extends a relationship between the two companies that began in 2018 with an initial pact that gave the streamer access to 16 titles for animation adaptations. To date, projects put into motion include Taika Waititi and Phil Johnston’s upcoming series based on the world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and an adaptation of Matilda The Musical with Sony and Working Title.

Netflix said today it was eyeing the creation of a universe of projects based on Dahl properties across animated and live action films and TV, publishing, games, immersive experiences, live theatre, and consumer products.

Dahl’s books, which also include James and the Giant Peach and The BFG, have sold more than 300 million copies and have been translated into 63 languages.

Headquartered in the UK, the Roald Dahl Story Company is led by Luke Kelly, Managing Director, and has 26 full-time employees across 8 departments including: Theatre, Entertainment, Licensing, Publishing, Marketing, Finance and Operations and Design.

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos wrote in a blog post: “There is a moment in James and the Giant Peach when the Ladybird says: “We are now about to visit the most marvelous places and see the most wonderful things!”. The Centipede replies, “there is no knowing what we shall see!”. Netflix and The Roald Dahl Story Company share a deep love of storytelling and a growing, global fan base. Together, we have an extraordinary opportunity to write multiple new chapters of these beloved stories, delighting children and adults around the world for generations to come.”

Remakes of Tales of the Unexpected? They’re great stories but very dated now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,813 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Now will these Roald Dahl shows come out before or after the Narnia shows?

Season 3 of Sex Education is as good as the previous two. Nice to see they kept a few cliffhangers for a season 4. 😋

The exceedingly charming The Farewell was added recently - Lulu Wang’s lovely, sweet drama about an Asian-American woman visiting her dying grandmother in China. If you’ve only seen Awkwafina in her brash supporting blockbuster roles, this shows her operating on a much lower-key register to great effect. Zhao Shu-zhen steals the show though as Nai Nai. Has the trappings of ‘crowdpleasing indie’ all over it, but the film feels genuine in a way these sorts of films so rarely are.

Just finished the first episode and it's a good solid setup for a limited series - for context, I really enjoyed both Hill House & Bly Manor, although I would admit that Hill House is the better of the two as a horror series.

Yikes. I completely forgot about that, Netflix's first big swing for a blockbuster franchise. I guess not completely dead then, though hadn't heard any news of sequel films / TV shows (probably just as well but I remain salty about how big a wanted opportunity it was).

Not a movie but has anyone watched Brand New Cherry Flavor? I thought it was bonkers in the best possible way, I absolutely loved it.

It's not entirely dissimilar to a season of American Horror Story, just significantly better.

Yeah, this anime came out of nowhere, not that I had been checking to see if anything else was in the works.

Was looking at what films are included in the the Movies That Made Us, Wikipedia has is as Aliens, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Coming to America, Friday the 13th, Halloween, Robocop, Elf and The Nightmare Before Christmas. I'm assuming they're just repackaging the last 2 from "The Holiday Movies That Made Us" so they all fall under the same name.

Think that series and Locke & Key are the only ones next month that interest me. And maybe that Bright film.

Extraction, that so-so film that became a hit during the 2020 lockdown drought of movies, is getting a sequel.

I actually wonder is this some contractual obligation production that got forced through even after Netflix shelved Bright; cos I genuinely doubt they're still serious about continuing that world.

I really don't see the point of this, what Netflix see in a prequel to a zombie movie, without any zombies.
