Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Only new shinies I got from Go Fest were a Zubat and a Croagunk. I did manage to add Throh, Chatot and Reshiram to my Pokédex though, as well as a couple of new Unowns.

Most annoying thing was that I did two remote Uxie raids from friends in Japan, and the little fúcker just would not stay in the ball. :(

Eevee community day, which is deeply uninteresting for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,572 ✭✭✭Canard

Yeah, not keen for Eevee. I remember the previous one being stressful enough over the 2 days and I still have thousands of candies. The moves should've always been varied!

In shiny-related news, I got a 2* Dialga which was annoying so I kept going, and last night I got a shiny with 15/15/14 😁 Functional hundo!

  • Moderators Posts: 3,554 ✭✭✭Wise Old Elf

I wasn't playing for the first eevee community day so I'll be happy to pick up a few shinies (I've only two at the moment) but other than that, I agree, meh. No shiny dialga either but I did get a 14-15-15; so far so good!

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

Got a 15/13/15 shiny one myself, which I'm very happy with.

So, the Ultra Unlock 3 is Galar Pokémon. Can't say I'm thrilled at them releasing a bunch of new shinies at once, and gating all of them behind eggs and raids.

  • Moderators Posts: 3,554 ✭✭✭Wise Old Elf

Don't know if anyone has seen this but people online trying to do a "protest" at Niantic's removal of the extended stop spin distance in US and NZ, few people like Brandon Tan claim they won't spend money on incuabtors and the likes, and there's a proposal to do the absolute bare minimum tomorrow, single catch, spin a stop just to keep the streak, and nothing else. Be interesting to see if it has impact on Niantic.

I haven't looked in detail at unlock 3 but if it's primarily locked behind eggs and raids then Niantic seem to have gone tone deaf :/

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

Yep, eggs or raids are the only way to get the Meowth, Farfetch'd, Weezing, or Stunfisk shinies.

  • Moderators Posts: 3,554 ✭✭✭Wise Old Elf

It'll be the same with kangaskhan and heracross right?

Seems a bit ****, with two new legendaries and other stuff behind raids , they'll presumably sell a rake of passes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,941 ✭✭✭dogbert27

Me and the kids need kangaskhan and heracross for our Pokedex so a few euro will be spent on remote passes if we don't get out and about.

Over the last 2 months the chances of encountering a legendary pokemon in the GBL has been drying up. When I first reached level 20 I encountered:

    4 Therian form landorus

    3 Therian Tornadus

    2 Incarnate Landorus, 1 Incarnate Tornadus, 1 Incarnate Thundurus (i.e. 4 encounters)

    2 Regirock, 3 Regice, 2 Registeel (7 encounters)

    3 Xerneas

    4 Yveltal

    Since then:

    Regigas 1 encounter

    Deoxys 0 encounters

    Mewtwo 1 encounter

    Dialga 1 encounter

Have Niantic deliberately reduced the chances of encountering Legendary pokemon in the GBL to force people to go to raids?

Interesting, I find GBL frustrating so I don't think I've ever got to rank 20 for the legendaries. I hit 15 I think this season cos I had to battle for the level 43(?) Tasks, but after that it's not a part of the game I enjoy so I don't.

I was out and about earlier and it's such a reflex to open pogo, it's no harm for me to try to break that habit, even a little bit!

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

Yup. At least with Cranidos and Shieldon, they were both spawning in the wild during that unlock.

I think I got to 20 once, I sometimes go in to GBL when I get drunk cause it's the only way I can really deal with it for long :pac:

edit: awh, no more pac emote :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,941 ✭✭✭dogbert27

Even with them spawning in the wild, I tapped every one of them that appeared and only got a shiny Cranidos on the last day!

The GBL can be frustrating. I persevered as it was giving me the opportunity to catch legendaries but I don't know if they've changed things now with lifting of covid restrictions trying to force people out more to gyms.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

Yeah, I only got a Cranidos last day too. Woeful IVs (0/14/1) so gonna be a lucky swap at some stage.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

Got very lucky and got shiny Heracross day 1, so extremely happy with that.

  • Moderators Posts: 3,554 ✭✭✭Wise Old Elf

    Nice one.

My first palkia raid was a weather boosted hundo, so another good luck story here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,941 ✭✭✭dogbert27

    6 battles in a row, 30 fights.

    1 Nine Tales

    1 Scraggy

    3 Frillish

    1 Scraggy

I saw someone on Reddit asking the same question about reduced Legendary encounters in GBL

Niantic are really annoying a lot of game players the world over!

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

I'm not especially excited for the Ultra Unlock part 3 that's coming up. Also gonna be taking it easy at the weekend, Eevee isn't really one of interest to me.

I'm a bit meh about the current unlock, shiny heracross or palkia would be nice but i haven't raided much.

I do always like new pokemon so unlock 3 might be better.

Same for eevee but I will play to try to get the shiny eeveeelutions, wasn't playing on the first community day so I've only two shiny eevee.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

Yeah, I can see the community day being great for either people who didn't play for the first time Eevee was around, or PvP players. I think some of the moves are promising for PvP anyways.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,189 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

I'm interested in the two sword and shield legendary but can't get out to raid and can't seem to get anyone to raid with

Umbreon is currently available without the walking requirement of 10km if Eevee is your buddy

Espeon will be available tomorrow morning during the daytime same deal stick Eevee as your buddy feed them three berries and once they're on your map go evolve for Umbreon tonight or Espeon tomorrow

A new season update, with Hoopa becoming obtainable in its confined form.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

So, community day for October is Duskull. The community reception to this has not been great, can't say I'm surprised at that. It's no use for raids, and I don't think it's gonna be much use for PvP either.

  • Moderators Posts: 3,554 ✭✭✭Wise Old Elf

And shiny is already released right? So a general meh!

Having a good start to this fashion event, got shiny Sneasel and Butterfree so far out of it.

Interesting that there's an event to give out Zarude, but dang it Niantic, where's Kecleon!

  • Moderators Posts: 3,554 ✭✭✭Wise Old Elf

Any luck with shiny lake trio? I haven't done too many raids so no shinies yet

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

Yeah, got 3 Azelf, 2 Mesprit, and an Uxie. Been running a lot of Mesprit for folks on other continents, know of a few that have gotten the shiny of it from them which is nice.

  • Moderators Posts: 3,554 ✭✭✭Wise Old Elf

Really hoping Litwick will be the shiny added for Halloween, I'm mad to get that one.

So, got my Liverpool spawns yesterday, played locally cause I wasn't gonna head overseas, and it was absolutely not worth it. Spawn rates were awful, shiny rates were worse, all in all a rip off.

A little off topic, but a while back on the old platform I was grumbling about it being impossible to play whenever I'm down in New Ross because of a particular spoofer who liked to 'own' all the gyms. I don't mind spoofers. As long as they don't kick me out of every gym within 10 minutes of me being there physically that is.

Since then, I've been working on increasing the number of gyms, the thinking being that more gyms would simply mean more effort to maintain ownership and there might come a tipping point when it all became too much. Plus, if some of those gyms were on the periphery of the town, they would have to take care not to move between them too quickly. Before I started, there were 6 gyms in the town. This evening, it gets its 21st. But I can only claim to have created 13 of the 15 new.

The last time I was down, the original spoofer was still dominant on one side of the town. But a new spoofer of a different colour seems to have taken 'ownership' of the West Bank :) I could see that they constantly battled for 'control' of the town centre, but the peripheral gyms were less hotly contested and I was able to overnight in different gyms on consecutive nights for my 50 coins.

(Ignore the POI colouring below, it's Ingress-specific)

My work here is done, the hinterland beckons.

Good job just wondering what app or site you use just to show the cells the reason I'm asking is I live in the absolute of nowhere in countryside and I know I need at least 2 valid pokestop in the one cell to trigger a gym? Anyways while I have spare time I might try and see can I get a gym.

    Basically there's only 3 pokestops and 1 gym in a 2 km radius :D

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

Myself and another local player managed to get a bunch of new stops and I think 2 new gyms in Longford town since the start of lockdown last year, kinda run out of particularly good stuff to submit at this point though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,152 ✭✭✭✭josip

    I followed the steps here

There's no way I would have continued nominating without it. The frustration of a submission being wasted because it was pinned 2m on the wrong side of a cell boundary, would put me off big time.

Some examples, here in Rathmines either someone got very lucky or they were using the map. The postbox is pinned about 15m behind where it actually is, but you might get away with that on street view if it's in the correct line. That way they get a sub in the cell to the left and they're careful with the pinning of the sub on the northern boundary, not to end up with a wasted sub in that cell.

Just look at the amount of wasted subs in busy places. Only 1 circle in each cell will show in PoGo.

I doubt if these are all Ingress players (who do see all the POIs in-game). After a few successful submissions that don't show up in-game, most of these people would have given up.

One word of warning about rural subs. You're wasting your time unless there's a footpath or equivalent beside the sub. That part of the game is heavily biased towards urban dwellers. I completely understand why rural people would spoof if they can't get local stuff approved. The one advantage of rural subs is that the turnaround time is sweet, 3-5 days usually. My Dublin subs usually take 2 - 14 months.

At this stage, I get more fun out of trying to fill the map than the game itself 🙂

If you get stuck on the browser script install, you can PM me the place you want a detailed grid of and I can send it on.

    I installed on Chrome.

On the IITC thing, I presume other towns and cities around Ireland saw new gyms appearing last week without any logic. Couple of new ones here in Limerick, and stops as well, where previously they weren't in pogo due to bring in the same cell as another stop. We had a gym appear as without any new stops added.

Yesterday we had several CircleK sponsored stops and gyms appearing out of nowhere too.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

There's a CircleK in Longford, so now I'm curious if that's a new stop too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,152 ✭✭✭✭josip

Any Circle K I passed yesterday was a stop/gym, I never thought they might be sponsored; I thought they'd lowered the bar for a valid POI :)

  • Moderators Posts: 3,554 ✭✭✭Wise Old Elf

The funny thing is we've a circle k stop that's nowhere near an actual garage and seems to be exactly where a previous POI nomination was rejected.

The Circle K in Longford is a gym now, though the location is slightly off. Still, won't complain about a new gym.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,352 ✭✭✭✭phog

Don't know if this was mentioned (just glanced through the last few posts) but most, if not all Circle K Gyms are twin gyms, as in there are two at the same location. It can be a drag trying to get into one in particular, especially for a raid.
