I was thinking this myself earlier...I say Harrington is deep down cursing Rory for not playing this week! His life would have been somewhat easier....but in saying that if Rose, Poults and Sergio all get picked ahead of Lowry its a joke. All 3 have just not played well at all this year in comparison to Lowry who has had his most consistent year to date. Anyone know how many points are up for grabs on the world list for Lowry if he can finish top 5 or that?

Allowing for the doubling that currently applies, world ranking points for the top 20 are as follows:

If Shane finishes 2nd, he would jump Tyrrell hatton, tommy fleetwood, matt fitz and lee westwood on the world points list

depending of course on what they do themselves :)

    Including the US Open

    Poulter 40th, 36th, 4th, 26th, 10th, 31st

    Rose cut, 36th, 46th, 54th, 10th

    Garcia 19th, 17th, 19th, 25th, 26th, cut, 6th, 10th

    Shane 65th, 23rd, 12th, 22nd, 23rd, 11th, 26th

For me my order would be Garcia, Shane, Poulter, Rose.

I think I'd have Stenson and MacIntyre ahead of Poulter and Rose.

It would guarantee that he would overtake Westwood no matter what. Then the only thing that could stop him getting the automatic place would be Perez winning which is extremely unlikely.

69 for Shane to finish on -11 at joint 5th and just inside the Ryder Cup spots.

Poor back 9 though after a good front 9.

Mayo for Sam, good lad Shane!

Great to see Shane up there in the top 5, but a bit disappointing on the back 9 again today. Bogeying 15 again is definitely disappointing.

It'll be nervy tomorrow (for us more than him 😉).

He'll need a good finish to make sure. If Westwood has any kind of a decent day Shane will need a low one and finish no worse than 5th or 6th I'd say.

Outside the top 9 again after quite a few birdies plus an eagle on the final two holes by the late finishers. It’s a pity about all those missed putts over the final 9 holes. With an average days putting, at least 2 or 3 would have dropped and he’d he well placed to win the tournament. Still not out of the running, but needs a really good day tomorrow.

Horrendous round for Westwood today, +6 for the day after 16. That makes Shane’s required placing today a little lower, I think 7th or 8th might do it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,886 ✭✭✭abff

A two way tie for 8th would do it. But he needs to pick himself up after that bogey at the 9th.

And a bad miss on the 10th after an excellent tee shot.

    Throwing it away

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,396 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

3 bogeys and a double bogey at 15 over the 4 rounds 😭

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Well it's out of his hands now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,886 ✭✭✭abff

Can’t see him getting a wild card ahead of Rose after that. Awful pity and I hope it doesn’t send him into a downward spiral.

    That’s horrendous

Yes Irish fans would like him to be there but so what if SL doesn't make the team ? I don't know why the Ryder Cup would be such a big deal anyway for any top pro .

    *There's no prize money

*The Europeans are not even playing for their country

    * It's really only a media -hyped novelty sideshow

    * Most players wouldn't trade a half dozen RCs for a major or even a WGC.

Dissapointing final round, hopefully paddy picks him. Emotional interview, just didn't bring it when he needed it most. Probably the most competitive captain picks ever.

He sounded confident of a pick and rightly so in my opinion. A years consistency doesn't get erased by a lack lustre (not bad) final round in a tournament he was in the mix for all week.

    I would leave Poulter out.

And with all the plaudits Wiesberger gets (and rightly so) Shane still finished above him.

I have received bans and warning for having the audacity that he might not deserve a pick about 6 months ago

I think he does probably deserve a pick BUT one thing that might go against him is I feel like his game isnt suited to foursomes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

I think I would leave out Poulter too, or maybe Rose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,558 ✭✭✭dublin49

Think he would be ok ,his short game will be a real plus and his odd mishits would only cost a hole and not the round.

    when is Harrington making announcement??

Probably expecting his good buddy will give him the pick. Nothing guaranteed yet.
