think Shane needs to end season now as obviously game is gone off the boil and only do his confidence no good missing cuts,

I expect he’ll turn up next week in Dubai. Limited field with oodles of prize money. He might even surprise you and perform well.

Going by shottracker his game is in decent enough shape, just missing a lot of makeable putts and that in turn puts strain on the other parts of his game and probably fries his head too tbf, much like the rest of us 🤯

Think he's still in the kind of form that a good week with the putter would see him challenge.

By no means certain that he’ll miss the cut this weekend. The cut mark could easily drift out to 2 over.

yeah it was dropping last night and he went from 85th to 73rd but settled back at 77th.Think he would need a stronger wind then 11 kms to get to 65th but you never know.

Looking unlikely now. Tied 70th with only about ten players inside the cut line still on the course.

He just holed an unbelievable chip to put himself in contention.

Great stuff, the putter seems to be finally behaving itself and he's made quite a few 20 foot plus putts for birdie over the first two days.

Be great to see a Rory Shane head to head on Sunday. Really like them both but it'd be hard not to hope Shane can take him down in a duel! 😃

He's now tied for the lead with Rory and Sam Horsfield

Great round by Shane today and should be himself and Rors out last tomorrow, looking forward to watching that!

Edit: Scrap that, Rory made a balls of the last, hopefully they'll be that last group on Sunday 🤞

Rory was seriously unlucky there. Drive wasn't great, into a bunker, so did the sensible thing and laid up for a third shot, then got a very hard bounce on the green and off into the penalty area. And then his drop (as they often do) nestled right down in the rough. Horrible way to finish what was a very good round up until then.

How did that putt by Shane on the 18th not drop? He looked really fed up walking off the 18th.

Still only 3 shots back and not out of it.

    Race ended on 9

Anyone know when he’ll be back and where

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,314 ✭✭✭The Big Easy

Probably Abu Dhabi in the New Year I imagine. He said he's running on fumes so I presume a good long break and Christmas at home maybe.

Huge Shane fan but must say I'm disappointed to see his name included on the list released today for the Saudi tournament.

Have to admire the stance Rory has taken on it right from early days.

I know money talks but sometimes surely even money must be ignored to send out the correct message. It's not like any of these golfers are struggling for some cash

I guess some are booked in for 1 or 2 events over the previous 2 weeks in uae so may as well pick up a few more quid to pay for the air fuel home.

if euro and pga tour are serious then some sort of sanctions should happen but I guess they’ll sort something out. Maybe play some lower event or other work

First I agree - I'm disappointed to hear Shane is taking part.

Looking at the list - wow they must really be throwing the cash, is it an early indicator of the guys who are prepared to leave the PGA to the SGL cash cow??? It feels like a bit of a "mike-drop" type of line up, look who we can get... opposite what used to be a pretty big tournament (not so much anymore) in Pebble Beach.

Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Graeme McDowell, Abraham Ancer, Lee Westwood, Tommy Fleetwood, Henrik Stenson, Kevin Na and Jason Kokrak - had all applied for permission so no surprises there.

Joined by Bryson DeChambeau, Sergio Garcia, Tyrrell Hatton, Adri Arnaus, Rafael Cabrera Bello, Paul Casey, Jason Dufner, Shane Lowry, Joaquin Niemann, Louis Oosthuizen, Ian Poulter, Xander Schauffele, Adam Scott, Henrik Stenson, Harold Varner III, Jhonattan Vegas and Bubba Watson.

They should all be ashamed of themselves.

I note whose not going there, Morikawa, Hovland, Cantlay, Thomas, Koepka, Finau, Burns, Scheffler.

I say fair play to them for having a bit of decency and turning down the big money.

Im guessing they are getting more than 100k each to turn up?

Why should they be ashamed to take Saudis money but not the UAE/Qatars?

You'd imagine Lowry would have enough money at this stage to be able to turn down the Saudi's.

Hopefully McIlroy will have a word with him as he's looking at a possible ban for playing on the Asian tour.

Don't want to go too deep & please do not get me wrong UAE/Qatar have a lot of things to sort out, but Saudi is much lower on the human rights totem pole - listened to a couple of podcasts over the years and a quick overview on the Amnesty website doesn't make for good reading/listening.

One of my issues is even compare F1 - the money men have decided to go to Saudi this weekend, Lewis Hamilton has come out and said "Do I feel comfortable here? I wouldn't say I do. But it's not my choice to be here. The sport has taken a choice to be here. And whether it's right or wrong, while we are here, it's important we do try to raise awareness."

The golf guys that have been there previously were coming out with comments on the scenery, how great it would be for visitors etc... All the while staying on a floating hotel in the Red Sea where they can avoid a lot of Saudi Laws.

The Lewis Hamilton interview/comments were very good I thought but he's the 7 time world champion, he can do that and people will listen. No one gives a fiddlers if Shane goes to Saudi Arabia or not, now if he was to raise some awareness of the issues while he's there that would be worthy.

Rory took a stand on it and won't go, it would be more impactful if he was doing what Lewis is, but none of the golfers have to be there as it's not a main tour event, so it's very different to F1 in that way.

I'm saddened that Greg Norman is the guy fronting and pushing the Saudi backed tour as he always seemed very socially aware and was one of my favourite golfers. As for Shane is it so wrong for him to take the Saudi money, I don't know? I'd love him to raise awareness and bring attention to human rights abuses while there, but understand his motivation in securing the financial future of his family while he can.

Garcia in a tough spot. Christmas dinner could be very tense if he didn’t go to Saudi Arabia.

I always felt Norman was more interested in busy end as he was in his forties. So once he’s getting his money he won’t care

it’ll take some money and planning for this tour to work if they want the top players to leave usa

It would be very easy for Shane not to take the money. He has loads of it and could play an equally big money PGA Tour event if he really wanted to, and he could get FedEx points.
