The accusation was not that Varadkar took a government jet over there but that he will be brought back on one.

I have no political affiliation but O’Broin does not strike me as a mendacious fella but one that government ministers are terrified of debating.

I think hes over there with work from today, so the jet will probably be acceptable to return in

The official line yesterday was that he was on holidays. Have appointments been made to distract from criticism or am I doing him a disservice?

Naive, at best, behaviour by the man, not least in assuming he’d not be spotted at an event with 25k attendees.

i wouldnt call it naive, as naive infers some kind of unknowing innocence.

i would absolutely call it a huge case of 'tone deafness', but am i surprised by this from irish politicians.... hell no.

As I posted above, he's in London and other countries over the next few days on government business. This was arranged and publicised before the weekend: https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/62f58-tanaiste-to-lead-enterprise-ireland-and-ida-trade-mission-to-uk-france-and-germany/

Basically he just went there a few days early on his days off and did some socialising.

He would have been taken to/from these places on a government owned/leased plane, as all government ministers would be, so it's an utter non-story, and O'Broin would be well aware of that.

As for O'Broin not being mendacious, he regularly stands up in the Dail and gives out about lack of housing, while he and Mark Ward go around Dublin Mid-West collecting signatures from residents, and submitting objections to block plans for further housing developments in their constituuency. He's full of sh1t.

You didn’t post anything above about him being on official business. Your post has two tweets stating he’s on his holidays.

Eoin O’Broin made no claim about him using a government jet to get there. You’ve made a mistaken assumption unless he made such a claim in an interview for which you can provide a source.

SF make objections to housing developments that are buy to let or for vulture funds that are no benefit whatsoever to their constituents nor the youth of the country. Pretty simple stuff and admirable politics.

No mendacity there. Should you fail to provide any then please withdraw your erroneous comments. As for the current government I see good and bad in their handling of the pandemic. I am pretty confident however that had the entertainment industry had their fate held in the hands of a SF/Labour/SDs/Green coalition that they’d have been treated a hell of a lot better than they have been.

Many young people in the UK spent the weekend at festivals, enjoying live events and getting back to the things they have lost over the last while.

Imagine the embarrassment of realising that young people here would be better off under the leadership of Boris Johnston.

What a truly sorry state of affairs.

Post #3906 has the link about him being over on official business.

You said that "Apparently a government jet dispatched to get him back, no justification for that if not on official business." - The government jet was dispatched to transport a sick child. Varadkar didn't come back.

I don't really care if you think SF/O'Broin are full of sh1t or not. I have first hand experience of him being a two-faced bullsh1tter and speaking out both sides of his mouth.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,403 ✭✭✭Seathrun66

You’re correct re your post, I assumed you were referring to the last post when you said see ‘above.’

Are we aware of Varadkar’s travel arrangements for the festival? None disclosed.

And if any evidence of O’Broin being a hypocrite or liar then please enlighten us. Anecdotal nonsense is exactly that. You’ve singularly failed to show that in terms of housing objections where they put their constituents first. I have many criticisms of the party but in terms of housing they’re leading the way.

I found some videos of 2019 on a Hard drive. I'll have to go through them all, I know I lost the camera for the last day. but it turned up. We saw the guy that managed to get into the place afte getting released from Portlaoise prison. The drama! He was considered very very dangerous.

Anyway, going to have a look through some of the videos and see what I can upload, hopefully some stuff worth upping.

For any Galway posters out there, just throwing this out here but I'm house hunting, well looking for a room in a shared house, ideally rent between 300 to 450 Euros a month. I'm in my mid fifties and I'm easy going. I've been in numerous party houses through part of my life here so just want to seek a quiet place with mellow heads, I pay all my bills on time and very good at keeping rent together too. If you have a space or you know someone looking for a tenant drop me a PM. Now back to EP speculation. 😊

No, I can't find anything, will dig a little deeper. It was on the Sunday, we were on our way to the car park and security were running around like headless chickens, They were searching everyone, and going in kimda heavy on anyone with a hoodie top. It was in the paper at the time because we were able to look it up. He was locked up for stabbing iirc, and managed to get in past the security. They believed he may have had a knife on him, not sure if he did. He had got released on the saturday I think.

Lads, the political back and forth could probably go somewhere else, no? I thought we had an informal 'No assholes, no politics ' thing going on in here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,403 ✭✭✭Seathrun66

Usually yes, but the politics is so intertwined with EP/live music industry in this of all years.

And besides, what else have we got to discuss other than 2022 finally being the year of Thom and Aphex?

Jeez that was a poor Gift Grub. He's painfully unfunny these days.

Agree, I think most seeing out the 21 thread! Done now I'd say.

Saw this video on Reddit this morning .. reminded me of two of my favourite EP sets... particularly the instrumental one.

    Who else was there?

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,307 ✭✭✭✭alastair

    Me! Went to both.

First time seeing them since the ‘95 RDS gig. The business.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,423 ✭✭✭✭bodhrandude

Went to the first gig but got freaked out by the crush from the back at the Little Big Tent withdrew and went to the Chemical Brothers set instead at the main stage, but caught their second set at the Electric Arena on Sunday where I think the Picnic that year had its only downpour. A great gig.

Heres a question, well multiple, biggest act to play EP... and/Or best show at EP...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,643 ✭✭✭rubick

Biggest - arguably Robert Plant, Patti Smith or David Byrne?

    Best Show - Portishead 2014

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,749 ✭✭✭endainoz

Still think it would be hard to beat the gigantic crowd for Billie Eilish from 2019.

The best gig question is completely subjective of course. I thought LCD from 2016ish on the main stage was pretty amazing, as was Blur. The xx from from a couple of years back was great also. I don't really have a favorite to be honest, it probably would have been RATM from 2020 had it actually taken place.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,451 ✭✭✭LowOdour

Think the biggest act is a hard one to answer (at least from my years going). Take Billy Ellish, even though not a headliner, she is a global superstar and the rush that day to see her was madness.

Personally, I probably would consider A Tribe called Quest the biggest act I've seen at EP. True pioneers of hip-hop

As for the best, no single best one but ones that stick out

2017 - back to back Run the Jewels, Phoenix and ATCQ. Probably only time I've seen 3 acts on Main Stage in sequence.

2016 - Avett Brothers in EA

    2016 - Young Fathers - EA

    2019 - Johnny Marr - EA

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,423 ✭✭✭✭bodhrandude

Best show for me would be Iggy Pop & the Stooges, biggest act though, maybe Duran Duran for having an enormous catalogue of hits, Kraftwerk maybe for legendary electronic act or as up and coming chart sensations either Billy Eilish or Dua Lipa I think from the year before.

I cant remember what the area was called, but Michael Franti on year did a cool little acoustic set in a small amphitheatre, possibly round body and soul, gig stuck with me since, was magical

Biggest act: those already mentioned or Bjork.

Best show: LCD Soundsystem (every single time). It's not subjective, it's a fact.

    Best back-to-back sets: Young Fathers/TuneYards (B&S stage 2012(?))
