    Bottas P13 tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,547 ✭✭✭✭El_Duderino 09

Fair play George. Very embarrassing for perez and Bottas to be so far off the pace in their cars and Russell in p2 in a Jaysus Williams.

The rumours are all pretty sure that he'll get the Mercedes drive.

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

How can Toto and Merc genuinely watch the talent they have on their hands and not put him in that car next year?

Hamilton won’t be around forever, and George has the head on his shoulders to know that if he takes a back seat in his first season then his time will come.

The fact this conversation is dragging on as long as it has is baffling. It should have been put to bed after Sakhir last year.

Jesus Webber just ask the questions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 714 ✭✭✭ricimaki

I think they want to avoid another Rosberg V Hamilton season, where the 2 of them are constantly taking points away from each other. This will be much more costly now than back in 2016, as Red Bull are competitive, and the rest of the grid is much closer.

If Mercedes don't take him, he must be in the sights of a few other teams. Russell and Lando at McLaren would be great to see.

If it is a wet race, could we see Russell on the podium? They seem to have one-lap pace anyway, and being out near the front the visibility will have a big impact. I just hope he has a battle with Hamilton, rather than letting him past.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,870 ✭✭✭✭klose

Webber even alluded to Williams giving merc a hand in his post qualifying interview which I thought was odd and kind of awkward.

Russell for all his unbelievable qualifying this year does seem to get gobbled up off the start and the first lap, verstappen will go off aggressively to get out ahead of the spray.

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

Mercedes can very easily get Russell to play the team game.

Bottas is not the answer for Mercedes post-Hamilton. They need to get on with it now.

Just heard Vettels full radio, he was furious. Fair play for stopping to check on Lando

I'd say it has been settled behind closed doors and long time ago. Just because they haven't announced it publicly, doesn't mean it's not in hand.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

Russell sliding into Lewis at the first corner please

Max off at Eau Rouge and Danny Ric to win

  • Registered Users Posts: 515 ✭✭✭Lawlesz

Think the Russel thing is a done deal, but they're trying to tie up the Bottas to Alfa move before announcing anything. I think it was Joe Saward had that on Twitter last week.

Stupid question from Webber tbh, would say that's the last thing on Russel's mind

Just had F3 on there. Doohan leading Schumacher is quite pleasing on the eye for vintage motorsport fans.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,964 ✭✭✭✭PopePalpatine

I left for half an hour to do some chores during the Q3 red flag. My timing was worse than Red Bull's during the Hungarian quali session.

Was a bit long out drawn ...

Fair play to Russell for P2 and Vettel for stopping next to Norris.

Considering his race pace so far I wouldn't expect a podium for George but who know it looks like it's going to be a wet one so anything could happen. 1 massive pileup and another crash with Lando today all in the same spot on the same weekend. I really hope nothing happens there tomorrow. This should be a good one I reckon.

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

If the conditions are more of the same tomorrow than I wouldn't rule out Mazepin winning the race to be honest.

Lando, before he crashed, looked so far ahead of the rest of them though. Really looked at home in these conditions.

Watching YouTube videos post-qualy here. The Williams lads just look absolutely elated. Love to see it.

Is Norris down to the back with a new gearbox?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,159 ✭✭✭bennyx_o

Likely a new chassis so pit lane start for him

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/mclaren-lando-norris-f1-pole-spa/6656036/ 5 place grid penalty according to this, no new chassis

    Ms

    Awe don't say that.

So the points between Lewis and Max would stay the same.

Max has had enough bad luck. I want to see him win it even if it means the race at the front will be boring so be it.

That was the best most exciting session of F1 quali ever. Who would have ever of thought George Russel in the Williams would be up on the front row.

Also way to go Vettel. He really is a great driver checking on Lando.

I doubt that is something many of us thought we would see in F1 in this day and age. I certainly did not.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but I've such a bad feeling about this race, like something is going to go wrong. Hope I'm wrong obviously, but it's weird

Yeah the constant changing conditions is making me wary as well.

What’s the weather like at Spa today?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,249 ✭✭✭✭flazio

F3 was wet but reasonably incident free.

If there is a safety car start I'd expect it to be a rolling rather than standing racing start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,268 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

The team boss came across really well in that interview and it sounds like they got everything right, I wonder is this form going to continue or did the conditions just level the field a bit this time? I'd love to see George get a podium but I feel it's unlikely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,638 ✭✭✭deafroadrunner

Watched the start of the porches supercup. Was wet. Few incidents round the track including opening lap going through eau rouge car spun out. Nobody was hit thankfully.

What would be best for Russell's future career today?

Finish the race or play the Bottas role this week?

If the later happens, and you were Red Bull, what would you do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,491 ✭✭✭Harika

The Porsche Supercup Crash was "people who shouldn't have a szuperlicense material"

F1 show, still shows rainy. Race is wide open

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,930 ✭✭✭kksaints

Most important thing for Russell is that he puts in a solid race today. Doesn't have to finish on the podium but a points finish with some good racecraft.

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 11,684 Mod ✭✭✭✭devnull

Depends if Toto values this season more than the future I guess, whether that is most important or not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,547 ✭✭✭✭El_Duderino 09

I don't really think a poduim is a realistic goal for them. The Williams has been better in quali than races all season. I think Russell will be doing a brilliant race if he finishes in the points at all. When you factor in the other factors like tyre wear, the Williams will probably fall back and be swallowed up by the field.

I'd love to see him do something amazing with the help of a fluke, but a great race could be a modest points finish.

Can't see this race starting on time

    Rookie error by Perez

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,977 ✭✭✭TheDoctor

Can’t see anything but a safety car start. Few laps see can clear some of the water

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

The way the spray is kicking up, will be starting behind the safety car for sure. Question is how many laps will they do behind the safety car before they go racing

I'm the same. Maybe what happened is reminding of other incidents and that circuit and the rain or what but I was thinking about it last night. I’d be very happy to have a boring uneventful race today.
