That is not the point and as it happens, it was not half empty as you describe, it was quite busy albeit I'll grant you it was at a time of a number of flights departing.

It's relaxing that got us partly into a mess in the first place, but again, a quite airport is absolutely no excuse and dare I say a good time to be actually implementing and testing rules of travel are being adhered too.

I flew to the canaries a few weeks back and all our paper work was checked in Dublin airport at Check in. Then we just showed our vaccine certs on arrivals didn’t need anything for kids (under 12) and no medical checks.

Coming back all was checked again at check in this time In Canaries, so not sure why your friends kids under 12 were tested as it’s not needed.

Glad to hear it, honestly I'm not sure about the Kids testing requirements, i should clarify one child was over 12 and I miss understood, it was one that required a test not two, my mistake and apologies.

The fact remains however two families I know personally on the same flights and destinations had zero checks done at Dublin Airport, flight came in last night and they spent a week in the canaries. I've since spoken to another friend who was in mainland Spain two weeks ago and same thing. Whilst it appears checks are random on the Irish side, there's entire flights clearly not being checked and that's a genuine concern.

    Blood pressure checks? 🧐🧐

immigration do the paperwork checks. They must have done it?

also paperwork is checked before boarding.

Yes, as explained in the airport on the canaries a doctor was present at arrivals, the expected checks done, certs, temperature. When my friends showed eldest child's test from Ireland, doctor requested additional checks required, dad escorted child with doctor into side room, she checked temperature and what was described as blood pressure check. When my friend (Dad enquired was the test results from the Dublin not sufficient, doctor's said they've noway to verify such results and take additional precautions. I'm just relaying my friends experience and might add two families on same flight.

Re paperwork checks, yes it's understood border control do this and this happened in Spain, no such checks took place in Dublin on departure or arrival and Airline in Dublin asked no questions which I believe they are required to do.

As other posters have said, it's not something new from their experiences recently , I was just so taken aback on hearing my neighbours experience on their return, particularly given the furore over the covid vacinne certs, call centre fiasco and the Malta incident, I just assumed rigorous checks taking place, clearly they are not.

Ah that makes sense now. I returned to Ireland for the first time in 8 months from (mainland) Spain last week. My paperwork was checked and scanned in Dublin.

I guess it doesn't surprise me that checks are lax at times. Since I got back I see not much has changed in Ireland since year, there is no real enforcement of anything and bars and restaurants in a lot of cases are quite openly flouting the rules. This while other industries remain closed who would be considered less risk. Mask wearing has improved though.

I am gonna call BS on this.

I landed back today from 10 days in the Canaries.

Prior to departure in Dublin I was asked for my DCC and QR Code before being permitted to board. Upon arrival in Spain, nothing out of the ordinary. I was asked for my passport as usual, then proceeded on to another checkpoint where they simply scanned my QR code ( same as the PLF here ) - once that was complete there were no further checks.

Before boarding today in Spain I was once again asked for proof of vaccination/PCR ( i.e. DCC ) and my PLF for Ireland. Upon arrival in to Dublin airport I was asked for my passport and PLF.

There are no blood pressure checks, no additional testing, no doctors waiting for passengers.

Come in out of the fog will ya.

Call away that's your entitlement, I've relayed a story that is factual, it's neither here or there wether you believe it or not, it is what it is and I've learned from others on verious threads, checks are not happening as they were supposed too. My only reason for posting was my genuine surprise at this, given as stated the furore over this.

I'm guessing based on your assumption of BS what side of the fence your on re all things covid & I guess your type of response is the very reason why as I stated in my OP (If you actually read it) I've stayed away from threads such as this.

I won't be engaging further so let's leave it at that, night night 😏

I have heard the same from several people. Zero checks in Ireland.

It's very concerning. I have several older relatives who waited till it was deemed safer to travel and are now being put at risk.

The aviation industry are as usual behaving appalling. They have zero care for public health, it's just reckless profiteering. Which is exactly what I expected from them if left unfettered by any meangiful regulation and enforcment.

You will not be able to board the plane without cert or test. Relax.

Agreed, I missed a feature on outbreaks on recent flights on the Today with claire Byrne show, must listen back, not a mention of lack of checking just cases and flights.

Wait what now? In what way are “the aviation industry as usual behaving appalling [sic]”?

A few drama posts going on here, like the daily mail some of them. If ye bothered to read the examiner article it says 7.5% is related to travel or max 10%,low.compared to workplaces and social gatherings. You can't get on a plane without the correct documents, only spot checks needed in arrivals at irish airports.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,917 ✭✭✭Blut2

There are regular social gatherings of hundreds of people going on up and down the country these days that are far, far more likely to be super spreader events than the tiny amount of people traveling, fully masked, through the airport without a negative PCR or full vaccination. Its really not something worth worrying about considering the higher risk activities entirely OK for everyone to partake in.

2nd trip through Dublin this month and it was much busier this time, nearly pre COVID levels at security early this morning.

Aer Lingus very thorough checking documents, PLF and vaccine certificate.

Personally couldn't care less who we let in and out of Ireland as this virus is endemic now so it's just pointless and to be frank the security at Dublin Airport don't seem to give a toss either. Have flown in and out of Dublin 6 times in the last few weeks on business and have yet to be asked once to show vaccine cert or PLF form or anything bar a passport and boarding card by Ryanair staff and passport by security in Dublin Airport. So used to not being checked now I don't even bother to have it handy, it's buried in my cabin bag and it won't be checked. All my flights were on Ryanair and yes when boarding they do ask ' do you have all the right forms and paperwork' and you just say yes and on you go. Don't ask to see it and totally agree with their stance, it's up to Irish government passport staff to check this stuff not Ryanair. Everytime I have filled out all the necessary forms and have all the vaccination proof etc so 100% compliant with regulations but it has never been looked at. Just a waste of time the whole thing.

Who thing is a box ticking exercise and the passport staff in Dublin Airport seem to have zero interest. Must say I applaud them as it is pointless anyway, just seem to be pragmatically ignoring it all.

Listen.. I love the North, and go there often. There are 1000's of people like me going North every single weekend. And back.

Half the voices I hear in the North are from here. The problem isn't at the airport.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,917 ✭✭✭Blut2

Over 60,000 people a day cross the border from NI, across 400 odd border crossings, with absolutely no checks or requirements required. And have done throughout corona. Its what always made the airport controls utterly pointless. Especially back in the Spring when the number of people arriving daily at DUB was in the low hundreds.

Flew out of Dublin last week

DCC was checked at the gate and again upon arrival (no declaration/tracing form required when I travelled, but has changed since) Got a text on my phone from the local authorities reminding me of the quarantine/restrictions (this is done automatically for every phone that appears in this country)

    Return to Dublin

No DCC or PLF check on boarding, no check in Dublin just the usual howya and passport

afaik there have not been QR scanners installed at Dublin Airport. There is no way passport control can check all documents so i expect they are relying on the Airlines at the boarding gate.

These scanners may have being installed recently....

All you need is a smart phone to scan the QR code, takes seconds.

Even with the Delta variant the situation is well under control here now. Vaccine roll out nearly completed let's hope a new variant (more deadly) doesn't emerge. If it does non essential flights from that country should be stopped immediately or we have learned nothing!
