I find this a little bit disturbing to be honest. Trashy tabloid site the journal.ie, that's been pumped full of government money the past 17 months is now a credible fact checker according to the Irish state https://www.bemediasmart.ie/tips

Have you read any of their fact checking on covid misinformation? They've presented excellent evidence and debunked a lot of stuff surrounding anti vaxx social media posts.

Have you any actual link that their fact checker articles have been incorrect?

Because over the pandemic their stuff has been terrific in tackling the anti vax nonsense!

Arent the journal privately funded also?

I remember an article they published in the CervicalCheck controversy where they got a key detail incorrect that changed the complexion of the issue completely. In fairness, when I emailed the author to point out the error he changed it.

The Journal to its credit has been very cautious in its over all coverage of the Pandemic generally and one of the few outlets that regularly does fact checking articles.

Whilst some of the comments sections are amusing, bewildering and quite offensive, they've choose freedom of speech over censorship albeit they do remove, delete some outlandish and offensive comments.

The Daily case numbers drives a certain cohort wild with anger no matter how large or small, these are the very same people who think Vacination (I am most definitely pro) cures covid completely. Rather strange mix of people to be honest.

No they haven't. Their checks consist of an absolute avalanche of disinformation, pages and pages, that comes out with the result they wanted.

They have been "fact checking" long before Covid,, I once contacted them and asked them would they run a fact check on whether the allegations made against Ibrahim Halawa were mostly correct.

They never responded, because they won't fact check anything that comes up with the "wrong" answer.

The only legitimate fact checking service in Ireland is gript.ie . Their breakdowns of the facts behind the hysterical Covid stats are groundbreaking- they were the first outlet to point out that Covid hospitalisation figures do not necessarily refer to people brought in in an ambulance coughing their lungs up, but are doctored so as to include asymptomatic people who test positive on admission or contract Covid while in hospital.

They also pointed out how a NPHET report solely blaming pubs for a September surge completely omitted any effect re opening colleges and schools had in September.

Only the tip of the iceberg of the scams NPHET have run, and only one media outlet willing to point it out.

The only things that they fact check are things that are bat-**** crazy that no sane person believed anyway or stuff that goes with their narrative.

It should be noted too that before Covid, The Journal were pleading for donations and since Covid (and Covid government advertising) they seem to be fine again.

There has been some very dubious stuff going on over the last year or so with the media.

The Journal's "Debunked" section is an exercise in gaslighting.

When you read the detail of those articles, they generally debunk some random person on Twitter, or find some inconsequential inaccuracies in an article that dissents from establishment narrative, then claim the whole thing has been "debunked."

One minister he named was Eoghan Harris.
